To me this song sounds like he isn't really sure of his voice. I used to DJ so I have this album. Songs on it like "Put Your Mouth on Me" made me think he might be trying to imitate Prince, who he's a fan of. Musically Murphy is much better later on, when he's doing Reggae-vibe stuff, like "Red Light" with Snoop.

Ok, for clarification: this song was a JOKE when it first came out. Nobody took Eddie Murphy seriously as a music artist and the song went nowhere. What can I say - it wasn't right for the time.
