Before you cook anything you need to fully open the lid - gently right until it can go no further, I believe the grill calibrates it lid position mechanism, when you do this and then close the lid on the meat - that is how the grill knows the thickness of the steak and hence cooking times and temps.
I have this grill and it is really nice for steak, chicken and I love grilled ham and cheese on it. Be warned though, that the color temp is way off. A med steak comes out overcooked, and you'll notice in the video they left that part out. Pull it off about 45 seconds to 1 min after it beeps for rare and you'll get a medium. That's my only complaint about this grill. Anything that you're cooking, steak, chicken, etc, pull it off a min or two BEFORE the temp gauge tells you otherwise it winds up overcooked.

Well if you notice right at first the steak was medium but when she showed it again it was well done. I think cause its being heated on both sides that when you do take it off the grill it keeps cooking faster than we realize/ are used to.
@@aguiremedia No, she started with Rare, said "moving on to medium" said "as you can see, it's medium. @@ChrisWJames Thanks for the above as i have been doing my head in and i knew its me doing something thats causing it to go to manual. But the other issue i have is that once its on Manual i cant have it on any auto settings
If you marinate in oil it will get a better sear. This is the difference between cooking a steak in a pan with oil and without. The grill surface definitely gets hot enough
This is my second one. We have it outside the garage door exposed to the elements yearound th-cam.com/users/postUgkxreK_FUQ74_bylFqCr3y2MHqL3u78-b3r Direct sunlight deteriorated the plastic on the thermostat and severe winds blew the lid off. We found it about an acre away. I bought a new one and I saved the good parts from the old one as spares. Got about 8 years out of the first one.
Those programs doesn't work properly. Just got one today, looked very promising but after some testing the programs doesn't work. When turning the device on and selecting your program it goes straight to the manual mode. Sometimes the programs work, but most of the time it doesn't. Very strange :(
As long as the idea of rare-medium-well done system is good it should really be designed the opposite way. Steak which is meant to be well done should go in first, then machine should tell you when to put in the steak which is meant to be medium and then the one which is meant to be rare. As things are now, if there are 3 people who like 3 different ways of preparing steaks, they cannot start eating at the same time unless they don't mind cold steaks. Perhaps Tefal can take it into consideration when designing future models
It's a good point poodelek. Although if you're cooking for just yourself, you wouldn't want to wait for the machine to countdown before putting the steak on. Also, it's always good to let your meat rest, so it wouldn't matter to wait a bit. However, we're sure Tefal would appreciate all feedback. You can contact them directly here: www.tefal.com.au/Consumer+service/Contact+Us/Contact+Us.htm
I don't usually comment on videos but I will on this one, you didn't mention what the temperature of the steak has to be, steak cooks differently from room temperature, than from fridge temperature. I am considering getting one any way. Ideally I would love to be able to program the temperatures and time values myself and a cut off time, so I can set and forget, leave the house to get a missing grocery or bottle of something, and come back to know I havent set the kitchen on fire.
My friend you need a slave in the house, not an electric grill..... Nothing like a good bottle of wine and a "rested" to death and cold like a m..... f....... steak.
As it happens all the time with modern gadgets, too many options that may or may not work as you want them to. A timer and a temperature knob would do the trick, and that would save costs as well.
*****, you can adjust the settings to suit your tastes. This machine allows you to set the auto functions to accommodate a whole variety of foods, including fish, meats and vegetables.

The steak may appear slightly over-cooked for medium, slang1984, but that was more due to us not taking it out of the machine on time, rather than the machine cooking it too long before alerting us...Sorry :(
Just put a chicken breast & 3 pieces of asparagus on mine...wasn't at all perfectly grilled. Breast was turned into jerky and asparagus to mush - sensor never changed color from blue...not very impressed for the $179 & change I paid for it last night. Keep your receipt

Yeah...did you watch the video before you posted it? Your "medium" steak is well done. Medium should have a hot pink center;.
How come medium turned out to be well done? I have one and sometimes it works great, other times, not so great

Blue, well done, well done.

What do you do if you’ve got 6 pieces and you have to cook 3 at a time ‘ do you have to reset the grill ...
no wonder I kept getting it wrong, you have to select before putting meat on...thanks a lot

I just use manual mode. I think the grill is the best I've ever had - such a high standard of food is made on it.
i have one and very hard to set up the cooking sensor . don't waste your money.
I have a new type of grill ( optigrill) when we put the meat cut after heating symbol manual back (M) and I've tried several times
Beautiful toasted sandwiches are smash to hell on mine...
How easy is it to clean that fat from the steak afterwards?
That ain’t medium honey

haha, it's a good device ; i cooked 5 kilo or marinated meat for my mothers 60th birthday with it, people loved it xd
Picked one of these up from goodwill for 4$ awesome for my apartment
Same here! It had that error where the selection buttons didn’t light up so i reset it as per some videos online and it works perfectly
Me too! For $12 lol
Chicken breads and pork steaks are tough cooked on this. Burgers are good though.
I like everything well done cause I’m so paranoid of eating under cook meat so this machine is perfect for someone like me to cook my meat on.
Freeze your meat for a couple of weeks and then you can have it rare if you want to.

Both medium and well done look the same. A fancy George Foreman grill, which u can find at goodwill for 15 bucks lol

medium failed
Sadly though.... Rare is almost blue and then the medium is well done. Needs to be a little now progressive on the levels.

@3:25 you killed it!
It may appear slightly overdone slang1984, but it was still moist and tasted pretty good :)
Look great but to much tech to go wrong
Notice that that we don't see her cutting the steak but just the end result of what it should look like.
Just found a brand new one someone tossed away never used super excited to use this
to bad that doesn't have dual. I need that very much. To bad
that medium is to grey.

Horrible ad. Steaks looked steamed
That was not a medium steak
What about energy consumption?
really? who cares. you use it for ten minutes how much electricity can you possibly use? 3 cents

Is cheaper to do it in a toaster, as per few TH-cam videos. Same crap result.
Great job lady, steak is sizzling nicely and look at that gorgeous steam 🤭🤭🤭🥰

That sure isn't medium
Well that's not medium for a start 🤣
I was using it wrong for more than 2 years 😂
People should know that animal fat is Not bad for you. In fact you really should eat fat.
Hope fully YOURS LASTS longer than mine did before it gets a mind of its own and becomes a useless shelf for condiments !
yeah, no, that's not Rare, that's RAW
rare not raw!

And what the Fuck are you doing with your METAL tong on a teflon surface????????????? And. That's not medium, It's Well Burn for me.

Biiig different between rare and medium-rare... that medium-rare is well done... 👎
Um raw!!?? Really wow pretty sure you mean RARE
Everything about this from the "Medium" steak to the scraping of the metal tongs on a non stick surface gave me cancer.
