EVERYTHING just tastes better, and way purer, in glass! I drink from glass, cook w/ glass cookware, etc use wood utensils only. Seems like you can go back and reheat food, or take a drink a few hours later even, n it keeps it "fresh". So I agree, its worth the effort. Not only is Kathryn resourceful, but really cute, as well. Great tips. TY
I’ve never seen dispensable dry good bins in any regular chain store like WInn Dixie or Walmart. The only ones I know of are places like Fresh Market and other really expensive stores. But if this was a widespread, common thing to see I would absolutely do this. It’s the other items that are the issue: yogurt, frozen veggies, on the go snacks. Too bad there isn’t a way you could put those kinds of things directly into your own container. That would be a complete revolution for a grocery store to have every single item, whether fresh produce or even snacky junk food, available for purchase in that form. I imagine a giant store full of dispensers and bins. Could get super unsanitary. I don’t know. If we could just get all manufacturers to put their stuff in biodegradable containers combined with dry goods in dispensers that would eliminate a huge portion of the plastic. I’m guessing it’s more costly than just plastic. I’m on board but I also have a family and we don’t eat just dry goods and fresh produce. So for all the other things there’s still a pantry full of plastic but if I’m really thinking about it, lots of recyclable cardboard too.
You have inspired me. I will try to implement as many of these tips as I can. I love the empty jar storage idea, bamboo toothbrush and buying more natural fabric made clothing. Thank you for the great ideas! 👌♥️
The "plastic" in the coffee cups is actually some form of wax, I know because I am allergic to most if not all forms of wax, so when I get coffee from 7-11, Starbucks, ect i have an allergic reaction! (I am not allergic to coffee, I can drink the coffee from containers or coffee shops that use mugs)
Thanks for this video. I don't specially do it for ecology but mostly because being in contact with plastic as a whole is a lot worse for health than you might ever imagine. Messes up your hormones and everything. Please get rid of pl*stics
I have turned into a jar-a-holic. I spray paint the tops of the lids (not underneath where the seal is) to personalize them, I dry-can my bulk dry foods like rice, beans, sugar, crackers, tortilla chips and lemon cookies. I especially love the giant pickle jars. Small jars are treasures too. 20-30 minutes in 200 degree oven, then tighten the lids afterwards and they will reseal most of the time, causing airtight bug proof food that is fresh as the day I bought it at Costco. Splitting up those huge bulk items into smaller portions retards binge eating in addition to preserving snacks.

I also shop at thrift stores. They may have a plastic component in those fabrics, but they are already here and continuing to be used and not repurchased.
@@donnaleeclubb119 thrift shop items don't count in the ... count. Like you said they are already made. But lots of people buy cheap clothes from places like Wal-Mart and when the item gets a blemish, tear or loses a button etc they get rid of it and get something new. And also I know some people chase trends so they get all new clothes every season because *gasp* they wore that old thing last year! I wear uniforms for work and school so there is precious little me time in which to care whether I wore this last season last decade. I just gotta get the shopping done and hit the gym.
Oh wonderful tips! My first switch was the toothbrush and then my shaving razor from cartridge to single blade and no more body wash or shampoo only hand made organic soap 👍
I'm working on this. I wish I knew where to find a bulk food store. I absolutely abhor marketing, disposable packaging, and toxic chemicals and food additives. 😠. Oh, and I was also having trouble figuring out how to downsize my wardrobe --- you fixed it for me. It just clicked, I'm only keeping clothes I have that are made with natural fibers. Going to cut up some of the rest for rags, dish cloths, reusable "paper" towels, or cut to make blankets or curtains with. That made me happy! Ty
I haven't been able to switch to fountain pens because I can't seem to find good quality ones that don't leak that are affordable. Until then, I've switched to pencils. I find that most of my writing utensils were used to just jot down notes and make lists for myself, so a pencil works great!
I feel like I don’t go through pens that quickly. But maybe that’s just me. I’ve had the same pens for years. Still a good idea for people who write a lot.
Even starting with one tip is a step toward less plastic in my life! Thank you for making me aware of ways to do that! I wonder if a test of some kind has been created that will measure how much plastic is in our systems. Would it show in our blood, cells or liver?... I wonder!
Omg my shoulder and upper back was hurting sooo bad from this car accident that I was in 4/2024 and I couldn't even lift a 5 pound bag of empty plastic bottles to put out for trash day. My son will take out the trash from now on , my mother had to take out the trash for me. Kisses and be blessed.

They are stronger than the one use plastic bags they give you. I always keep them in the car so I don't forgot them. 100% cotton t-shirts are inexpensive and easy find.
I have been using glass containers for years and fill them at home. I rarely by a coffee or any drink outside of home. I rewash foil and a small 15' roll lasts me over a decade!
Plastic has such a major effect on our environment, from the fossil fuels used in it's production, the harmful chemicals released into the air during those processes until it eventually ends up in a landfill or the ocean. Even though I feel the companies should be held responsible and policed more, it is ultimately consumers that create demand. I want to help in any little way I can and these were some great places to start in reducing plastic in my life. I never even though about taking my own little produce bags, that's a great idea:)
Thank you finally a millennial that is actually doing something for the environment, rather than lecturing their parents about how righteous they are because they are voting to pay a guilt tax to globalists to save the world after they drive to Starbucks and buy coffee in a disposable cup. I do all of what you are doing and I grow a garden in a greenhouse that I built, and I milked free range goats and made my own cheese. And raised poultry for eggs and meat. I still end up buying feed in bags made of plastic. But they do recycle them. We only have to go to the dump like twice a year and most of our waste is recycled.
Yes I.made my New Year's resolution to not use single use plastic bottles and bring my own shopping bags to ALL stores not just the grocery store. I used my stainless steel water container when I am out and about and when it's empty I find a water bubbler to refill it. Most convenient stores all have water dispensers and all stores have a water bubbler. Thank you for your video.
You should have added swapping a cartridge razor for a DE razor, especially for men. Not only are they plastic-free, but also (imo) much better and waaay cheaper!
I do use plastic, but I don't abuse the privilege of having such a handy item. Pick the best product, use and reuse until it isn't possible to squeeze another use out of it. Use an alternative if there is one that will do as good a job and is within your budget. I grew up before Tupperware became a thing everyone had to have. It is possible to still have convenience and plastic without filling landfills for untold generations to come.
Growing up, all we had were paper straws. To me, a glass or stainless straws are just too hard to clean and I believe people will be too lazy to actually clean them correctly.,
