  • Intricate differences between Juki DX-2000QVP and Singer Quantum Stylist 9660 - you won't find those in their specs and I couldn't pick those up from the online reviews either.
    Several other things:
Singer bobbin threading is more fiddly. The hook is a bit hard to catch with the thread, and then you need to pull it up and do a full needle cycle. With Juki it's bobbin in, route, snip and off you go.
On the other hand Singer has a guide that you can bolt to the base place. For Juki they have a magnet to do the same but it's an optional accessory.
Singer also has basting stitch which can be handy. Juki doesn't provide a good solution for free-motion basting. We found a work around with selecting free motion quilting straight stitch, and using foot down + needle cycle + foot up (then move the fabric and repeat). If you program heel controller to do foot up/down on heel press and set machine to stop with needle up, then one basting stitch would be: heel kick, toe kick, heel kick; then move the fabric and repeat. Just in free motion quilting, even with tension dropped to -3, the thread is still to tight and caused fabric to bunch a bit, i.e. you need to raise the foot to fully release upper tension.
Another bonus for Singer is electronic tension adjustment. Juki states it sets tension automatically, but if you want to adjust that - you need to use the knob, i.e. you can't program it as part of your custom stitch definition, e.g. for drop tension even further when you do free-motion basting.
Still, Juki takes the crown among all machines we've tried in this price-range for having the most snappy electronic foot lifting which is a major thing for us.
Both machines were purchased with our own money but thanks to Costco amazing return policy we have managed to return Singer since eventually it didn't meet our expectations.

The difference in "price" is a significant factor when you are comparing machines. I have a Singer Quantum Stylist 9960 and it does everything I need /want, and I Love it!!!

You are comparing machines that have about $1000 difference in price, so the comparison doesn't seem quite fair. I had a Singer 9960 Quantum Stylist for several years and it was a very nice machine. The computer board malfunctioned, and I was told it would be expensive to replace it; so I decided to replace the machine and I moved up to a Juki. You get what you pay for. The Singer was a very nice machine and I still would recommend it for someone who has that price range in their budget.

Of course they are in different price range - I say that on the video. The problem is, for beginners, it's hard to figure out difference just by reading the specs. There is lots of reviews there, e.g. on power tools, including tear-downs where you can get qualitive and quantitive "this vs that" comparisons, but I struggled to find those for sawing machines.
Even within juki line itself - DX-3000 vs DX-4000 look absolutely the same on paper except for the screen size. Go figure why 30% cost difference.
So yes, you get what you pay for, but it was for me to figure out what do I pay for when buying Juki for double the price of Singer (on paper, the only major difference is the automatic foot lifter)

I have a Singer that cost me around $100 twenty years ago. I loved that machine, but the needle holder became worn and the needle fell out. I replaced it with another Singer in 2022, and it would stop sewing mid-seam for no reason I could figure out. I ended buying the Juki 2000QVP, and I really like it.

Sorry to say but I have the same opinion as bethkich11 below, you are comparing two sewing machines that have a 1000.00 USD difference between them, and that is not fair. This Juki is the same as the Juki HZL-DX-7, and I know that coz I have both, and I also have the Singer 9960. That singer have been with me since 2009, and the Juki DX-7 since 2013, and BOTH have been able to do what is expected from them. But the Juki has a more powerful motor, with a piercing force of about 1.1 amps, while the Singer is 0.46 Amps, less than half the Juki's, and the Juki has the Industrial Technology for which Juki is famous for, while the Singer is supposed to be just a household machine. That Singer have gone with me to lots of places to do stuff like sewing regular shirts, skirts, blouses, etc, basically household stuff with light to medium weight fabrics, and had never failed. I have given maintenance every 2-3 years, and is working like new, although is a little yellowish. I use the Jukies for more heavy duty stuff like Curtains, Drapes, Heavy Table runners, heavy denim and light weight leather, things I can't do with the Singer. So sorry but I wouldn't use your video as a fair guide to purchase a sewing machine coz it doesn't show the real capabilities of each machine.

Thanks for sharing your experience. This video is not a buying guide, and not to trash one brand over the other.
I mainly shared information I couldn't find elsewhere. There are plenty of reviews on both machines.
