De reuzen van Royal de luxe zijn misschien wel een van de meest spectaculaire onderdelen van Leeuwarden Fryslan 2018, culturele hoofdstad. De iconische reuzen van Royal de Luxe zullen Leeuwarden, en met name het centrum van Leeuwarden, op stelten zetten.
Het is de eerste keer dat de reuzen van Royal de Luxe in Nederland te zien zijn.
HET KLEINE REUZE MEISJE
Het Kleine Reuze Meisje is ongeveer 5 meter hoog en weegt 800 kilo. Ze heeft 20 mensen nodig om in beweging te kunnen komen en is gemaakt van staal, populieren en limoenhout. Haar hobby's zijn turnen en snoepen en ze heeft vaak een groene of roze jurk aan, afhankelijk van het weer. Ze is ook wel eens gespot in een regenjas of Mexicaanse ensemble! Ze dwaalt door de stad op zoek naar haar vader en laat onderweg graag kinderen een schommelritje maken op haar armen.
DE XOLO
De Xolo is tijdens een show in Guadalajara te Mexico uit een blok ijs gesmolten. Hij is een Mexicaanse hond, die door de Azteken wordt beschouwd als een heilig dier én is de beste vriend van Het Kleine Reuze Meisje. Als een echte hond beweegt hij zijn staart, krabt zichzelf eens lekker achter z'n oren en steekt zijn tong uit om je een hartverwarmende lik te geven! Dit brave hondje weegt maar liefst 350 kilo en is bijna drie meter hoog. Er zijn twintig baasjes nodig om De Xolo soepel te laten bewegen én te laten rennen tot bijna zes kilometer per uur.
DE DUIKER
Deze indrukwekkende Reus weegt 3 ton en is wel 11 meter lang. Er zijn ongeveer 30 mensen nodig om hem in beweging te laten komen en hij is gemaakt van populieren en limoenhout, leer en staal. Hij draagt een duikersuitrusting met helm. Alleen z’n onderarm en handen zijn onbedekt. Zijn haar is gemaakt van paardenhaar en zijn wenkbrauwen van bezemstro. Zijn ogen werken op kleine motoren en zijn gemaakt van straatlantaarns.
Royal de Luxe is een Franse theatergroep die straattheater maakt met reusachtige mechanische marionetten. De groep werd opgericht in 1979 door Jean-Luc Courcoult, en is gebaseerd in Nantes.

It is the first time that the giants of Royal de Luxe can be seen in the Netherlands.
THE LITTLE GIANT GIRL
The Little Giant Girl is about 5 feet tall and weighs 800 pounds. She needs 20 people to get moving and is made of steel, poplar and lime wood. Her hobbies are gymnastics and candy and she often wears a green or pink dress, depending on the weather. She has also been spotted in a raincoat or Mexican ensemble! She wanders around town in search of her father and likes to let children take a swing ride on her arms along the way.
