If they get hit by a car it can end in grief for them as well as lawsuits, major bills and other problems for vehicle owners. It's not about being fearless. There are plenty of places to do it where the rider will be the only person being hurt if they make a mistake.

The only time pedestrians get hit is when they walk across a traffic filled road at a non crossing. And if you want to play the pedestrian safety card, then why not just ban cars from using the roads aswell? since they are the biggest danger to pedestrians. I've taken part in unoffical allycat races (not the redbull ones) And I've never seen anyone hurt another person apart from theirself (which was extremely rare) and was only because they had never rode a fixie before, but thought they would be able to allycat fine.

I've ridden numerous organized events... I've visited Mexico City five times.... And I would never ride my bike or drive in the city. I drive trucks for a living in Vancouver and when I arrive in Mexico City my girlfriend, who lives in the city... Does all of the city driving. This chaotic race gives cyclists a bad reputation. If I saw one of these riders pass me... You'll be on the receiving end of a football tackle.
