"We cast our hearts in plaster, we imagined our bodies were fashioned from stone, but they chipped at the brick and the mortar, we found out that we're only layers of skin hiding bones. And our bones are like chains, old and rusted in the raid, they're going to snap when the weight shifts." Fucking amazing.
Their music all around is breathtaking, even to this day. I used to listen to them so much. I read a comment under King Park by them; someone said something along the lines of the song not being as dark as on tiktok; I fumed a little (because tiktok, really... lmao) but also hope they one day get the recognition they deserve. I feel like I don't know many people who've ever listened to them. Amazingly beautiful band.
All of la dispute's songs have this raw and beautifully melancholy emotion that always creeps up on me whenever I listen to them. They're such an amazing band
We could blame it on our hands They lifted the drink to our mouths so we drank it. Or we could blame it on our bodies they say, "We like the way we feel when we get touched." You've got your fingers snared in my veins I think it's time you pulled them out. And I don't care about the flesh it'll tear it isn't flesh that I'm worried about. We held a match to keep our sight on the path but the flame gave up and we lost it. And I've knelt for the last three years trying to find it back with the blackened matchstick. Today I'm not afraid of failure. "The past is a flower. The future: the snow." I wasn't ever close to perfect, but I never let you go. You let your doubt like a river lead you on and on and on and you will never get back to save what you had, hear me promise, "I will bury your problems in me so sleep soundly." I held your heart in my fingers now it's gone, it's gone, it's gone and you will never admit that you bid the wind blow the flames out And buried the coals in the sea. You tricked me. You came back and you brought floods wearing a necklace made of hearts that you'd dragged through the mud. I guess I wasn't quite sure what to do. But then I saw mine, almost reached out to grab it. Said "Darling, you're the only one on Earth I want to have it." But now I'm not so sure that that was true after the hell you put it through. But there was no sharp pain this time just the ghost of your presence compressing my chest like a vine. An unshakeable absence like most of my insides crawled out through my mouth and went west. But that's fine. We cast our hearts in plaster. We imagined our bodies were fashioned from stone but they chipped at the brick and the mortar We found out that we're only layers of skin hiding bone. And our bones are like chains, old and rusted in the rain-they're going to snap when the weight shifts. You moved like a fire through the forest. You're hands were as red as the skin on your lips. You'd been flirting with distance, princess I tasted its spit in your kiss. Oh, mistress, know: Today I will bury the flames of your failure. The past is a liar, the future: a whore. I'll lay your bones into the earth and you will haunt my head no more. We could blame it on our hands, but it was our mouths that opened up to swallow and our heads that commanded us drink. But as I buried your flames in the dirt I watched the smoke pull your ghost from the grave. And I fear they'll only lay in wait till we are face to face again. Just when I said, "I'm moving-I'm moving on." I felt them come to life again. There are fires that tear through valleys and make dust from grass. There are wires-bound in blue light they pull us to the past. We are tired. We should've known from the start that this thing wouldn't last.
We cast our hearts in plaster. We imagined our bodies were fashioned from stone but they chipped at the brick and the mortar. We found out that we're only layers of skin hiding bone... Breathtaking lyrics -3
"just the ghost of your presence compressing my chest like a vine. An unshakeable absence like most of my insides crawled out through my mouth and went west. But that's fine."
Going through a breakup with the mother of my child and she has a very traumatic passed, we are in the process of maybe trying to make it work. I relate to this song on such a deep level.... its like this dude studied my life and said "oh, you feel that? I can describe it better" and went on to scream painful beautiful poetry for me... shit comforts me like a warm towel out the dryer 😍
@ERICistheafterparty I can relate the two, I just place La Dispute in an entirely different spectrum; HHLL learns more towards a sporadic, not so much grind, and an awkward emotive vocalist while La Dispute is much more refined... Most of the stuff in this song is pentatonic I believe, carries a classic rock feel... I would just never put this near HHLL, it'd be an insult, and I'm a fan of both. HHLL is a kids band to me
im not a huge fan of the vocals, although I will say it is so fitting for the style of music, he kinda comes off whiny IMO lol that's just me, but god does the guitar in this song pump me up lol, just so badass
This is a really great band, but you have to be into stuff like this... I listened to this same song like 2 months ago and didn't like it but I have started listening to some weird crap lately and now its freakin awesome.
We cast our hearts in plaster, we imagined our bodies we fashioned from stone. But when the bricks chipped at the mortar, we found out our bodies are MADE OF SKIN AND OF BONE!!
Samuele lol they're alright but they couldnt ever possibly hope to achieve the raw musical and poetic talent that La dispute displays in literally every song.

Fucking amazing.
One of my favorite La Disputes's verses/song chunks.
Goosebumps and energy boost all over

these guy's lyrics are pure poetry.

It’s “what to say to you” not “what to do”
We cast our hearts in plaster. We imagined our bodies were fashioned from stone but they chipped at the brick and the mortar. We found out that we're only layers of skin hiding bone...
Breathtaking lyrics -3
the lyrics in this song always crush me under a ten ton weight. it’s like i can’t breathe at all.
Amazing still. Years and years later.
Best La Dispute instrumentally, amazing lyrics. Great song.

Discovered these guys yesterday, not heard a song I don't really like already. Fucking amazing
If La Dispute ever had a song on the older Guitar Hero games, this would be it
The Last Lost Continent? what about that song?
I agree, this song fucking kills it. Whatever it is, it's fucking lifeless being thrown around.
thank god they didn't so i can still listen to them and be smug
This song will always be a favorite..
One of my favourite songs by La Dispute.
The lead singer reminds me of Aaron Weiss from mewithoutYou and I friggen love it. Great band I found thanks to a guy at work lol.
I don't care about the flesh it will tear,
It isn't flesh that I'm worried about.

im not a huge fan of the vocals, although I will say it is so fitting for the style of music, he kinda comes off whiny IMO lol that's just me, but god does the guitar in this song pump me up lol, just so badass
@crassisdead i dont comment on this video how did that comment get there???/

Very MeWithoutYou-ish.. just a bit more upbeat.

Why? They both sing from their heart and are amazing. Why try to insult it?
Why do all of this guys songs sound the same?
BMTH is an amazing band , so is La dispute
