God dammit!!! This is greatest version of Help/Slipknot /Franklin's that I've ever heard!!! To be there in person, watching this unfold live must've been absolutely amazing for all there!!
Well said, man, I discovered this when I was 13 and was totally mesmerized and knew I had to hear as much of this band as possible!
the grateful dead saved my life again today
The shit that got me into the Dead as a 14 yr old in the 90's. Thanks older brothers!
Jerry's opening lick on Franklin's sets the vibe just right.
Happy Anniversary to this show! Just randomly put this on and suddenly realized it was today.
Divine appointment
Is it just me or could this be one of the best versions of this fine trio??? Jerry's voice is as clear as I've ever heard, thank you!!
Not just you, it's the fucking bomb. I listen to the intro and get goose bumps everytime he says "on lead guitar and vocals mister Jerry Garcia. "
The vibe is on point!!✌
If there’s a better version, I’ve never heard it.
It's a Grate one! LONG LIVE THE GRATEFUL DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's certainly not just you. Not only is this cut their best live take on the song - it's also incredibly well recorded!
One of their GREATEST performances!! The Eyes Of The World on this album is just as impressive...
you can say that again!
Yeah I love that Eyes too.
I agree. I had the vinyl bootleg of this 10 or 11 years before it was released. It was titled "Grateful Dead Hot as Hell" I almost fainted when I heard this "Franklins Tower" on the radio in 1990 or 91. I went right out and bought the CD. Now I have the MP3.
Ouch!! That Bill Graham intro is the BEST!! please repost this and add that.
amen
Jerry's guitar sings on the opening riffs of Franklin!
Damn we miss you Jer in WI
Needed this help today...💯
💀⚡🌹
At 8:10 What a great starting solo for the song. Best I've ever heard. So tasteful, well phrased. Go Jerry!
My daughter said this is her known song of this Grateful Dead thing, RIGHT LOVE DAD!!!🍀
Great slipknot and Franklin's tower was easy to listen too. Great Jerry on guitar and everyone sounded good on vocals.
Whichever way your pleasure tends
If you plant ice you're gonna harvest the wind....so true, Mr. Hunter
My Daughter drop this down when asked what's your favorite song by the Dead by a seasoned Dead Head! I say GREAT ANSWER Kickapoo!!! She's Family🌈🍀🏄💚🍍🐕🐇
I was born 10 yrs after this... If i was parked in front of these guys hearing this for the first time I dont think i could handle it... I would implode
Nope, you would light up like a Christmas tree. Wake up and find out that you are the eyes of the world!
I didn’t hear it the very first time, but heard many more iterations over the years. And yeah, we did implode!
Welcome to the playground. More potent than Festivas ever was, or ever will be!
I was born 27 years after and i feel the same exact way dude. This incredible band will live on forever.
That smooth transition from slipknot into Franklin's truly epitomizes to me what this band can do.
If there is a quintessential dead record, OFTV is the one, for me.
There’s a pause in the recording and the new one starts
So feel you 4real
That's totally it it's like a rolling freight train bound for disaster like falling down a flight of stairs and landing on your feet
@@Llthhelion I feel like the only time it was ever smooth was on the cassette release.
I despise tge digital separation, but have learned to adjust.
@@TheresaEdgeworth they just swung so high in this era.
And walked in the footpaths of forgotten troubadours.
HELP ON THE WAY🐢Rest in love Phil🌹
Hey now hey now thats the sound i needed!
This is just one example of why the '70s were the Dead's best era. Everyone is playing well; Keith and Donna sound great.
Absolutely agreed. Early 70's though....when they were transitioning from fiery electric psychedelic intensity (and some meandering) to Americana jam-band prog. jazz/rock/country.
That said, the recording of St. Stephen into The Eleven from Live Dead (1969) is my favourite performance of any song by any performer across the ages of time.
Just when they came back out after the break... Saw them at The Beacon in NYC on this tour that followed. Amazing stuff !
Great American Music Hall...wow, what a way to officially come out of hiatus !! So tight and right on . Great hearing Uncle Bills intro of this "jug band extraordinaire" .
I saw the Bevis Frond at the Great American Music Hall. What a great venue for music!
So bright and clean.
I ❤ you Jerry.
Thank you!
Just realized how great an opener this song is...
Always get goose bumps!
Paradise waits On the crest of a wave her angels in flame
She has no pain
Like a child she is pure, she is not to blame
Poised for flight, wings spread bright
Spring from night into the sun
Don't stop to run
She can fly like a lie, she can't be outdone
Tell me the cost
I can pay, let me go, tell me love is not lost
Sell everything
Without love day to day, insanity's king
I will pay, day by day
Anyway, lock, bolt and key
Crippled but free
I was blind all the time I was learning to see
Help on the way
Well I know only this, I've got you today
Don't fly away
'Cause I love what I love and I want it that way
I will stay, one more day
Like I say, honey, it's you
Making it too
Without love in the dream it'll never come true
>
Slipknot!

In another times forgotten space
Your eyes looked from your mother's face
Wildflower seed on the sand and stone
May the four winds blow you safely home
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
I'll tell you where the four winds dwell
In Franklin's tower there hangs a bell
It can ring, turn night to day
It can ring like fire when you loose your way
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
God save the child that rings that bell
It may have one good ring, baby, you can't tell
One watch by night, one watch by day
If you get confused, listen to the music play
Some come to laugh their past away
Some come to make it just one more day
Whichever way your pleasure tends
If you plant ice you're gonna harvest the wind
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
In Franklin's tower the four winds sleep
Like four lean hounds the lighthouse keep
Wildflower seed on the sand and wind
May the four winds blow you home again
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
You'd better roll away the dew
Roll away the dew
You better roll away the dew (roll away)
Roll away the dew
You better roll away the dew (roll away)
Roll away the due
Roll away the due (roll away)
Roll away the due
Roll away the due (roll away)
You better roll away
Whoa. This is transcendent. (I don't even know if THAT word is an accurate description of this. This is amazing, magnificent. The best of this trilogy I've ever heard. So passionate, powerful and intense.i mean, I like some of the longer triptychs, but this one is singular. It may be shorter, but it's incendiary. It's awesome. It's interstellar and intergalactic. This is spectacular.)
Alright, I'm just gonna add this to the other 87 best-ever Dead shows.
It’s not included in this but the intro is the best, i love how as bill graham introduces them they start playing, also Bobby’s sound in the very beginning is super sick, sounds super spacey, really cool effect. Also the almost ad-lib like hush and yeahh’s on help from bobby and donna on backup vocals are incredible. Absolutely stellar performance, too bad it’s 50 years too late to see em now.
incredible
Ladies and gentlemen, the Grateful Dead
i was at this show
Hell Yea (~);}
were you one of the preppies or one of the heads? Either way, I will always be envious of those that witnessed the Boys at the height of their powers, and this was such a night by all reports...
ToGetToTerrapin deadheads are weird... preppies are really dumb. I am somewhere In between. I have heard all of the dead's material pretty much, but to call myself a deadhead is ridiculous because I've never seen them live and probably never will. Born at the wrong time i guess.
+Zach Gagnier Probably never will? Considering Jerry's been dead for 20 years, you definitely never will.
Just saw bobby this summer
That solo of Jerry's starting at 10:37 . . . !
hell yeah
Jingle the bells, Donna!
Love this! It would be nice however, to hear Uncle Bobo’s entire introduction of Jehovah’s Favorite Choir…😎
Love the groovier sound franklins' an underated is 5/17/78
This is a goodie. Right when they were developing it with energy.
This 75 version is fantastic. So bright, clean, and fresh! For a more mature version check out 6/9/77 at Winterland. That night Garcia seemed to be possessed by John Coltrane. It's dark, demanding, abstract, mind-bending, just bonkers.
Woohoo!!!
Thanks for the video. Love them. I was born in 81 and my parents liked oldies and classical. Too bad I went so many years growing up without hearing the Dead. Luckily, I was "introduced" to them either in junior high or high school. My man's dad says he only likes "Truckin"" and I think that is so lame! But at least it made me feel superior, lmfao j/k If any of you deadheads would like to be FB friends HMU the name is Amber Golightly.....and I have an astrology group as well as a group for venting called "That's Some Bullshit!" LMAO
This show is the first live performance The Dead played after the release of Blues For Allah
Yes and it really was by invitation only. Record execs and the like. It was supposedly their way of introducing the album and I'm guessing their return from hiatus although they really didn't ramp up long tours for a year a two after this. There is also a funny story (In Billy's book) about Billy Kruetzman and a friend racing through the Bay area back to Billy's house after the gig reaching like a hundred MPH. They are lucky they didn't kill themselves.
Best help》slipknot》Franklin's ever
Love the Jinglebells!
I was blind all the time I was learning to see
Crippled But Free. . I Was Blind All the 🕙Time, I Was Learning to See👀.
Don't Fly Awayy,, Cuz I love & I Want It That Wayy..

R.I.P. Uncle Jerry
AKA Captain Trips
@@Jakedadopemane RIP ROBERT HUNTER who wrote those lyrics, as well.
CAUTION: AT LOUD VOLUME THIS MUSIC WILL PEEL THE PAINT OFF OF YOUR WALLS. THE HEAT WILL BECOME ALMOST UNBEARABLE AT TIMES. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.
Peeled the paint off my face the walls and the windows of the vehicle next to me more than a few times, from just this show alone.
Right on Right on!
EPIC PARTY.
Life changed at 7:51.
And then again at 8:11.
Oh yeah...
The intro is the best part why would you cut it out?
LOL I just said that exact thing to myself. Such a famous introduction...
It's the tracking of the album. The introducing the band is Track 1, "Help" is Track 2, etc.
Meanwhile, I'd argue that this Help>Slip>Frank is a better listen than Mr Graham telling me the name and role of each person on the stage.
I know right...
Amen to that
@@gdpacnw5126 Each band member starting to play as Bill introduces them builds to a nice peak when the song starts. Ala the tapes of PITB from 5/11/72 Holland.

Help on the way
Well, I know
Yeah, I do
That there's help on the way
thank you for the time to write this ....nice one ..and such a psalm sould be rejoiced ..what wise words indeed ....the book of the dead ....
How ya gonna do Bill Graham like that after all he’s done for you.
Oh Jerry..
This is quite the version for it being the first.
I love how the Dead showed all their new stuff that just came out on "Blues for Allah" in 75 in this concert.
This show definitely has the definitive Help / Slip / Franklin's, Sugaree, and Crazy Fingers.
I may prefer the Help / Slip / Franklins and the Eyes of the World from 5/22/77 (Penbroke Pines, Dick's Picks 3), but this is probably the "best".
This early "The Music Never Stopped" is great, but I prefer the classic 5/8/77 version.
-Dublin
Englishtown 9/3/77 is the best live eyes , Weir before opener of the second set said " this ones for you cause we haven't this big a crowd in a LOOOOOONG time then they did Bertha 150000 people
Dublin I too love this version, but I don’t believe The Barton Hall 5/8/77 has TMNS on it my friend.
It's literally the best version ever recorded IMO.
@@markhorton3041 Ya, 5/5/77, 5/7/77, and 5/9/77 all had TMNS so I'm guessing OP meant of those. If I'm guessing it would be Buffalo (5/9/77) I always thought it was preferable to Barton Hall anyway.
Anyone know what they sing at the end of the line at 1:42? Think they repeat it on a later line as well. Thanks.
Why did you cut off the FANTASTIC INTRODUCTION?
greatnx
The whole shit is 👍🏽
A beautiful snowflake
exquisite bliss. thank you St. Stephen
I was 3 years old
as they're coming into the help slip they're like shut the fuck up Uncle Bobo
Must Have been the roses
Where is this version ranked? Also it seems they stopped playing it in the early 80s for a while but I could be wrong.
Nard Wiel I believe they had a four year hiatus with help>slip--from late 85-89, I believe. Could be wrong. Always been my fav opener, and fav composition of all-time.
Ranks right behind Buffalo '77 for me.
Number 1 on hv
Maybe top 3; definitely top 5.
for those of you who don't know Bill Graham was nicknamed Uncle Bobo
allegedly
The only person who ever called him that was Bob Weir. Bill never had a nickname.
What is fuzzing his guitar when the jam starts?
I wish they would let it naturally let it blend? Obviously isn’t all one recording
This is a recording of a live show,
f wish i was there great american all ornate gold balcony overhanging seats all 1950s out this place is a great trip
Why is there an ad before Franklin’s Tower?
there;s not, if you have youtube red
One of the best versions of this triad out there!
Here is a remastered version of it -- th-cam.com/video/pJq3onV2SG0/w-d-xo.html
the boys weren't much on being introduced
I probably played the Help/Slip/Franklin part of Blues for Allah 5,000 times back in the day. My 70s go to headphones and zone out music.
#slipknot #maggots #rippaulgray
How do you not get copyright strikes?
diga
They really placed a Burger King add in the middle of the transition of Franklins Tower
boo
Lock bolt and key'd
