- Watch traditional hay-making in Gyimes, Transylvania, where flower-filled hay meadows are cut with scythes and raked with Uncle Viktor's hand-made, wooden rakes before the hay is brought down to the village on horse-drawn carts. Horses and people work hard in this unspoilt village of traditional wooden houses and stoned roads. A colourful village festival highlights the sense of community and tradition.
These are the lovely magyar minority people living in Romania. Hard working mainly Catholic people who are trying to keep their magyar heritage, language and traditions alive. I pray to God to give strength to them and bless them. 💗

It's just beautiful
I used to go to my grandma's to Slavonia every year during summer until 1970. I well remember people using horses and cattle markets on Fridays and very simple way of life. It is all gone now. I hope this people in Romania don't give up on it. It is hard, but healthier and better then any life in big cities.

Jenny, What a beautiful adventure to times gone by where there seems to be an appreciation for newer equipment (e.g. the BCS mower, large lorry, cars, plastic cups to drink from), yet retention of many old skills. Yes the se are Hungarians, székelység keeping their tradítions in spite of all hardships. In order to keep this tradition they do need the cultural autonomy in the EU.
I think I could sleep good at night. A much more relaxed way of life.

Now this is the kind of video I thoroughly enjoy seeing, especially when it comes to visiting a place. I think it's great that visitors work for their meals, but also it's nice to see how things are done & get to know the people too. Wherever I've traveled in the world, that was my favorite part of the time there; getting to know the people & how they work, cook, live is what brings me joy. I could care less about seeing what typical tourists go to see; it doesn't define the hearts & souls of those who really live there. Thank you Jenny & I'm subbing you too!! Keep up the great work!! I couldn't agree with you more; tourist sites leave me cold but the minutiae of daily lives fascinates me. Language is my biggest problem and I find not being able to communicate a huge frustration. I'm glad you enjoyed.
@@JennyParsons Yes, the old Language barrier...I totally understand that! Thankfully, when I was in S.Korea, during the early 70's, I was able to learn enough of the language to be able to somewhat communicate. I owe that to the patience of the very kind & sweet Korean people! I was there for 13 months, with my late hubby, who was stationed there, near the S.Korea/N.Korea border...it was quite primitive at that time too & I came home changed forever, from that experience. When I went to Germany, again to join my husband on his military tour there, it was again, thanks to the very patient & loving German people...I spent 2 years there & also loved it as much as I loved Korea too. I had a distinct advantage over you, by being there for a longer period of time, so that's the only reason it became easier for me. You did a wonderful job though, for not knowing the language!! I so enjoyed your videos & so appreciate you sharing them with everyone here. Bless you Jenny & thank you again, for showing us the important & most pleasing part of another country!! 😊🙏💖

The are called Székelys (ro: secui) and they are living in Transylvania for centuries especially in "Székely Land"

I absolutely loved this series of videos. Friends of mine participated in world wide travels where they visited places, learned local crafts and ways of working and the culture of the people, and helped out as they learned. They loved those travels, but both passed away in an accident shortly after I met them, so I never had the opportunity to learn from them how to participate in (gain access to) these "cultural enrichment" and "craft learning" type of travels and I would very much love to learn more. Also, my son uses a scythe to cut the tall grasses in his pasture. He lives in Louisiana, where the soil is soft delta silt, so a scythe is easier to use in the fields than a tractor.
