I have been into synthesizers and synthesizer music for a long time. I have loads or records of all the usual suspects, but amazingly, I have only just discovered Suzanne and her music, and it now all makes sense! How I could have missed her! She really is the source of it all. The first time I really enjoy this genre of music, rather than having to pretend to appreciate a load of random noise. Instead here are untold layers of structure, melody, rhythm and harmony. Quite incredible. So far the only person I thought was able to create music like this was Bach. Wonderful. And I love the sound of that Buchla. What a relief to finally hear a modular synth that actually sounds fantastic. Pricey yes, I suppose this really is the Stradivarius of the synthesizer. Where have I been all these years!
Only thing that remains is to go and hear her perform live. On the bucket list!

Hey Maarten, are there some records in your collection you'd recommend? I'm in the opposite situation - I have Suzanne Ciani & Laurie Spiegel records but looking for more in a similar vein. Thanks!

In theory it would be possible, would make for a fun electronics project. They might be a bit bulky but that's ok, the main problem is that then you'd need quadrophonic encoding as well...

I think she's emulating a " human brain" with syntethizers. In some form whit sounds an bits she's achieving to connect left and right hemispheres of the brain whit bits of sounds in certain frequencies. I am - in certain amount - sure she is on to some thing really special here. Something good for all who listen. I feel a very good vibe around her. I' d like to have communication with her, in order to discuss such ideas. Bless u all. Greetings.

AL BUNDY well she began working with Buchla Synthesizers way back, probably before your epic high school football days. Needless to say she had a high level of mastery with the instrument (even though it’s mostly newer 200e series modules, not the original 200 system that she would have used in the 60’s or 70’s). To have enough variety, complexity, and different voices to cover a set of 45+ minutes requires there to me patch cables running everywhere. Generally very little to no new patching is done during a performance (and it’s not uncommon for some to keep their modular patched up for long periods of time when they find a versatile patching configuration that lets them have the sounds, variety of modulation, and freedom to improvise, still others tear them all out after each time they use their synth). So that’s certainly contributing to the enormous number of patch cables that are being used in this performance.
My big gripe with the eurorack format (3U rows/module height , as opposed to Buchla
at 4 and the Moog you used, 5U) is that the module size (height) of 3U feels too small for my hands and it’s really cramped trying to adjust knobs especially once there are patch cables everywhere in your way.. The Buchla format (the Goldilocks of modular formats) is just right, not overly cramped, nor does it get as massive + hard to transport as a 5U Moog Modular System inevitably will.
Where did you study that owned a Moog
Modular? Hearing about having access to stuff like that makes me want to go back to college someplace with a nice music department.
