    Growing up in that area in the 60s and 70s, Valley Forge was just a big pretty place to drive through on the way to somewhere else. It is so large, the best route was often to just go right through the park (and it was dark!) It was also a great place to hang out and throw frisbees on a Sunday afternoon. I've been gone for 40 years and I wonder if they still do that. Also back then the huts were original. Small, dank, very run down, and sinking into the ground over time. Some might not have had doors, or doors that closed all the way. But they were the real thing. I really liked that.

      Most of the huts were torn down within a few years of the encampment. The last known original hut collapsed in the 1800s. The ones you remember may have been old, but they were not original.

    Very informative. The first I'd ever heard about the log "cabins". Thanks for posting.

    Thank you so much for your trip and tour videos. They really got me through 2020 and beyond. It was a great way to show my kids a lot of cool places from our living room. You spend just the right time on displays and the information plaques so we can pause and read them on our own and learn so much. I don't know if you've been there but the National WWII Museum in New Orleans is right up your alley. Again, thank you so much!

    I really enjoy your videos which have a unique style all their own. My wife and I have hiked the trails of Valley Forge but to ride along with you was a special treat. We live in Bucks county which has its own share of historic places to visit for those who like that sort of thing. Keep up the great work!

    i live about 5 mins from valley fordge park! you did a great job documenting the park man! ive had a chance to get into multiple of those cabins in my years living here, theres not much to them at all... nothing is left inside besides 4 walls and a dirt/mud floor! not even a wood floor. awesome video!

    I appreciate all the history you bring.
    I do wonder why the names of nonofficers are never mentioned. They are they ones that did without food, clothing, etc and still fought.

      Joan Miller, it might be that records of rank and file soldiers are sketchy, and history mostly records what more important people did, or what people wrote down (the majority of people at that time were illiterate).

    I have wonderful memories of VF. My grandfather was the superintendent in the 60’s and planted many of those trees. He also recreated the soldiers cabins. (They may have been redone by now). Also lived in one of the stone houses there. Does anyone remember the metal tower that was up a “mountain”. We used to climb up it as kids. I believe it came down before the visitors center was built. We had grandpa as a tour guide. 🤗 He was also a Freemason.

      I believe that the old tower was reconstructed somewhere near Wellsboro PA.

    I'm going to drive down in a couple of weeks. It's only three hours away from me and I've never been there. Thanks for the inspiration.

      Jeff McDermott, I had not been there before either, and had not even planned to go there. I only went because when I left my hotel in King of Prussia, I saw signs for Valley Forge and decided to make a quick stop. I ended up spending about three hours, and could have happily enjoyed the place for a full day. Beautiful area, and large.

      @@youtuuba this will be the second time you have inspired me to travel.
      about 3 years ago I made it to the United States air Force museum. And in a similar case it was on the way to Indiana to see a friend so I had to go because of your videos 😊

    Are you still doing AMTRAK video's?

    • @youtuuba
      @youtuuba  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not unless I take an AMTRAK trip, and due to COVID I have not taken any this year (2020). I have taken, and documented, almost all of the long distance AMTRAK routes, and I doubt that I would repeat many of them just to make a repeat video. I hope to do one of the previously missed routes, e.g. New York to Miami, sometime soon. But I am retiring soon, and won't have as much expendable income for taking lots of first class rail journeys. We'll see.....

    False fact- that stainless steele water fountain was added 67some odd years after the bike rack ( which was added 347some odd years before the huts were built )
