I finally completed my screaming possum this afternoon! I had all the parts done, then I just chickened out on the assembly. But I just followed your directions & they were very clear. Probably the most challenging thing I’ve made so far, and he’s so adorable & well worth the effort. I made it as a surprise for a friend whose family loves possums- can’t wait to give it to her! TY for making this tutorial for us. Update: I gave the possum to my friend & her husband tonite as we played cards together. She was so touched that I wld make it for her, and throughout our card game, the possum often made angry hissing sounds depending on which team was winning or losing 😂

Good idea, but you have to start with something easy because that cute little opossum is not easy to make. You'll just get frustrated if you start with this

I think this pattern is super cute!! I’m trying to make this with plush yarn and was wondering what you think would work to make the pink mouth pieces more flat.? It domes so much I don’t think it’s going to work with the top half of the head.
It looks to me that you really have to stretch them in to place especially on the top jaw. And because you have that pocket under the roof, you can make it work. Maybe try a looser tension too?

Im making this pattern but with fluffy yarn (size 8 hook). When I make the inside pieces for the mouth, they curze/bow in very much. To the point, it looks more like the beginning of a stuffy instead of a semi-flat triangle. What am I doing wrong or is this just normal for fluffy/bigger yarn?

When picking up patterns from sources like Ravelry, if the pattern doesn't say which stitching notation it uses (which they often don't), is there a way to tell if it's US, UK or another notation? It seems totally random which notation people are using for any given pattern. This has become quite the problem with globalization, since a "double crochet" can be any of like three different stitches depending on the notation.

Most people us the US terms, but it might help if you check which country the designer is located in… in my experience the UK sometimes uses the UK terms, but many UK designers are using US terms now. We really need these terms clarified OR just changed to US terms (which totally make more sense to me) 😜

I did this using super chunky yarn. He ended up being the same size as an adult opossum.
