@brianlaughlin8974 Nice! Exact the same story here. Unfortunately I could only buy this record with KIZZ written on it because there was that far-fetched SS Nazi connection.
Peter has always been great playing the ghosts notes. The Kisstory about the sound of Peter's drum kit in "Rock and Roll Over" says that Eddie Kramer set the drums in a very big bathroom in order to get a big full sound with a lot of natural reverb. Peter was the only one there playing. Paul, Ace and Gene were in another room. Mr. Kramer had to communicate with Peter by using a tv camera, a tv monitor and headphones. Kiss has always had very, very good, skilled and talented Drummers. Peter Criss, Anton Fig, Eric Carr, Eric Singer and Kevin Valentine had contributed with a lot of consistency and professionalism to the Kiss music. God bless them...
Stewart Copeland os a master ALL the time. Gene and Paul had to play along to Peter’s terrible timing. You think a good studio drum track makes up for the hundreds of terrible shows they had to put up with? Youre listening to this out of context with all they had to endure for 9 years. And the reunion years.
Everyone here forgets that this was a studio track cobbled together from multiple takes. Yeah, it’s a good track - but Peter couldn’t do it live outside of a controlled environment. The drugs and booze made sure of that. The drum track is great - what makes the drummer great is consistency in a live setting and Criss didn’t have it. By 1979 he was a mess, his stamina was gone, his tempo was shot, his attitude sucked… and when he came back for the reunion he was SO out of shape there was no chance in hell he could ever pull this off. Show me a single Alive Worldwide live track where he’s playing this beat. There’s a reason he spent time before gigs soaking his arms in warm water - his muscles and tendons were fucked. He was great from ‘72 to ‘77. After that he was gone.
Peter was always very musical and sympathetic in his drum parts. Too bad, he’s dogged as much as he is. He was the perfect drummer for KISS at that time. It’s a shame he went off the rails when he did but his contributions in the first few years of the band were great.
@mr.brenman2132 Actually no, He couldn't play songs that Eric Carr did and Peter Left on his own they just din't wanted the same BS all over again also Singer and Carr both are better drummers than what Criss ever was your just not prepared for that conversation.
Paul always said he wanted somebody like John Bonham in kiss, well Peter was the closest thing they ever got. I think Carmine Appice or Jason Bonham would have been a much better pick than Eric Singer.
Unless you've sold more albums, played more sold out arenas and influenced more people than Peter Criss, then you have no business criticizing his drumming.
Hold everything there tweetie bird. Everyone can have an opinion. They may be wrong. They may be right. I think Peter was great. Love his work in the early years. When the real KISS was dark and dangerous.
@@boardskinsOk yes. But people are still entitled to be wrong in this country. Every moron that voted for Biden and had their vote counted more than once was an idiot and wrong. And they know it. And they’re entitled to wrong.
From a drummers point of view there's a major mistake made during that the huge and fast drumroll before the final chorus. You can hear him fail and there's possibly even a cut and paste thing going on there indicating that he was trying to chew more he could handle. Interesting to listen though. Listen at 1:51, the roll comes to an halt and he fucks it up.
Good ears! I hear it to but truthfully it wasn’t about perfection back then. Today everything is too beat detective and spot on the grid. So sterile. Peter was my first favorite rock drummer. Very cool!
Not sure I agree, the timing of the pause in the middle of the Phil, and then the final 32nd note roll at the end comes in right on time, I think the pause adds a bit of drama before the final blazing end of the fill. Maybe it was made up spontaneously? Not sure qualifiers as a fuck up though.
In my opinion it's not a fuck up at all, but a human element in the drumming that makes it unique and memorable. similar to him accidentally hitting the snare rim at 2:50 and 3:28.
I'm pretty confident it's not. Sounds like a studio drummer with impeccable timing and technique. Maybe Allan Schwartzberg...he played drums on both Gene Simmons' and Peter Criss's solo albums as well as several Kiss albums. He says the reason he started recording drum tracks for Kiss was because producer Bob Ezrin wasn't satisfied with Peter's drumming during the recording of the Destroyer album. I'll have to give a close listen to him on the solo albums to see if it's likely him. I also think whoever played drums on this was also brought in to record the drums on the Alive II version. It sounds like the same drummer, but neither version sounds anything like Peter Criss playing this song in concert.
@Artimus Swanso I question the drumming knowledge of anyone who says it sucks. And I question the Kiss knowledge of anyone who claims they're certain it's Peter.

Peter is an amazing drummer, extremely underrated.......
C'mon... There are millions of drummers, of any age, Who are much better than him
Fuck what Paul and Gene say
Paul and Gene are far from being perfect. But, without them, KISS would never have reached those heights@@WOLFMAN807
@@jean-pierrestraub7530 Find a drummer that can play this correctly to what Peter did here.
Great example of how well he could groove, shuffle, and still throw in massive rock tom fills, two thumbs up for the Catman.
Pre-1978 Peter is so raw and swinging, perfect for the original Kiss. He put in so many cool little nuances.
Nice! Never really heard Peter Criss drumming technique.
Impressed.
Rad love the open no bottom head on Tom's Great groove Pete was killer first six LP's
Peter Criss was my first favorite drummer. Rock and Roll Over was the first record I ever bought with my own money.

The reason I picked up drum sticks, thank you Peter 🤘
Great ghosting and the toms sound massive!
That big band sound .
Old school 16th note ghost notes low Tom's and super clean fills .
Peter criss so under rated for his time , my time ....
Ahh...CDL the way it should sound ! Great job Peter !!!
Appreciate all these dudes while their still here, Hell, while we are still here...😂
Exactly
He keeps those tom heads loose and they are open on the bottom. They sound great like that.
Yes.
Say what you will about Peter, the Catman was an awesome drummer & just as important as Ace, Gene or Paul !
Amazing groove !
Great drummer.
those pearls sound good
Surprisingly pretty dry bass and snare drum sound. Now the toms on the other hand. 😂 Cool to hear how they were produced!
Yes, this is the same version from Rock and Roll Over, with Peter playing, but is probably from a remastering of the album.
I think the same.
It’s from the RARO multitrack session tape.
1975 my mom what do you want for xmas my answer kiss alive album. I think I drove my parents nuts with that album.
AWESOME!!! Love the sound of the toms. Thanks.
Bad ass! So good! One of the best!
First song I learned to play. Criss has influenced many.
Impeccable timing….timing is after all what drumming is about
Hell yea
Nice! 👍
This is next to Stewart Copeland level drumming. How could Gene and Paul not hear this ??

definitely ......jazz influence helped
In 03' he was playing better then ever and KISS still canned him because they wanted their obedient lackey Singer on drums.

Was he Bill Bruford, no. But he did not have to be. For this music, he was fine and did an adequate job.
Peter chris is under rated, he wasn't incredible Awesome, But very GOOD

Any chance you could do this for I Want You !
If this is a question for me, then no, I have no tracks for this song.
How did you get to isolate the drum parts in separate channels? With the software? Which one did you use? Great job! Thanks a lot!
Thanks, but I didn't isolate the tracks. I just mixed them in an audio editor.
I’d love to learn how to do this? Any advice or links to tutorials?
All toms sounded like that in the 70"s
