    I really liked this design and contemplated getting it as a beater after seeing reviews of Ruike's other offering, p801. Found myself to be a bit hesitant and glad I was. Seems like it needs a few minor tweaks to perfect the design. Your move Ruike.

    Weird, mine flies out when I put pressure up on the thumb stud. Although from what it sounds like the detent on mine isn't as strong as the one you have. For the $20 I paid I like mine.

    hey guys, it is a gorgeous knive! Just hammer the detent a little down, smoothen the edge, where the detent locks in and there you can't can get enough of it.
    By the way I did more of rework. I grinded some jimping on the Blade and the handless, furthermore I glued leather on it to get more grip. Just did it and love it so far.

    If they just put a front flipper and a deep carry clip it could really be one of the most recommended sub $50 knives, I hope they do a remodel of the knife cause it is gorgeus

    Reminds me a lot of their 801. It has a thumbstud on it, but I ripped half my thumbnail off the nail bed trying to deploy it with it since the detent was designed specifically for the flipper tab. Maybe they took that same detent design and used it for this.

    I gotta say Ruike does their 14c28n very very good. The heat treat is super on point on all their knives. Good 14c will preform with good S30v and theirs is doing exactly that. They have sent me a bunch of their knives for Amazon review reasons so I have most of their models. I can tell if steel is correctly heat treated or not within a few seconds on the sharpening stones. Their 14c is done as good as anyone's and far better then most.

    thankfully it's a threaded thumb stud so you can take it out and put on of those thumbstuds for traditionals on it and then the action is shockingly good. this knife is very frustrating because it would be great other than that.

    • @JustIn-op6oy
      @JustIn-op6oy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was just thinking of those add-on studs, they seem to work quite well on buck traditional folders. The other option I could see is using one of those wedge/ramp shaped thumbstuds. Just a little dab of loctite to keep it clocked in the correct orientation and you're good to go.

    Hey Nick... I really appreciate this video. Like a few others in the past I lost rolling the dice with knives. I just spent $219 on a Bear-ops new s35 titanium flipper that blade HQ had on during blade show 2020. I opened the box and felt like I was in a bad dream. You gotta look at this knife. It’s the new Executive knife from Bear ops. Thanks for the FF Exec review... I absolutely love it.

    Having a hard time opening their framelocks seem pretty common. A Ruike to me feels like a Land/Sanrenmu, of which has a very similar problem with their framelocks. Makes me wonder if they're made from the same place.

    This looks like a coin flipper opener. I used to use the meat of my thumb to open thumb studs but after many repetitions its starts to chafe a bit until I discovered the coin flipper method. I grow my thumbnails a bit longer because I use them scrape or pry things so what I do is flick the thumb stud much like flipping a coin. The nail makes contact with the stud and not my skin. I find this way I can do this over and over again without my thumbs being ground to beef.

    I'm surprised you didn't mention the elephant in the room - the 'short side' of the handle is where you need your 3rd/4th finger(s) to rest when using the knife, a triumph of 'design' over utility. The Benchmade Proper's handle is similarly misconceived.

  • @orendz7740
    @orendz7740 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ya know it reminds me of the copper kershaw natrix. You put any pressure on the lock bar and you cant open up the damn knife. The knife is so damn small you really have no where else to place your fingers on the back to stabilize the knife so you can use the flipper to open it. I dont understand the love for this knife. Anyways, thanks for the content Nick 🤙

    Would you believe me if Ruike Knives *ACTUALLY* posted a video about how to open this knife properly?😁
    This knife has been on and off my wishlist for better part of a year. Everyone says the same, the thumb opener is an issue. One solution (candaian cutting edge/luv them knives? Cant remember whom), was to raise the thumb stud slightly higher and locktite it in place. Bit of a hassle to fix something that should be near perfect for public use.
    Pity...its a lovely looking thing, too.

  • @eqlzr2
    @eqlzr2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's a rare knife that I don't have to take a Dremel tool or a bench grinder and fix something to suit me. It's almost always the thumb cut-out in the handle isn't large enough, chamfered enough, or cut at a proper angle to really use the thumbstud comfortably. My normal adjustments would readily turn this Ruike knife into a near first-class user, and it would take less than a few minutes. I even had to grind away some of the titanium scales to enlarge the thumb cut-out on my $300+ Benchmade 765. I suppose it's user-specific, to some degree, but manufacturers would not be far off the mark doubling the size of their thumb cut-outs, IMHO.

    The coloring on the thumb stud began to come off after about a week of use. A bit disappointing since the blue made the the knife look quite nice.

    I was just checking that model out online a couple weeks ago and all the reviews said the same thing. It is a shame because I have another Ruike that is a good budget knife due to their 14c28n getting razor sharp very easily. And mine has that horrible thumb stud too, but luckily it has a flipper also. I agree that Ruike needs to get it together quick because we are in a time where there are so many decent budget knives.

  • @hags2k
    @hags2k 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I knew what the problem was going to be before I even started the video. I have the P801 and I love it, but the thumb stud is almost useless and I saw that this basically has the same stud in the same position. It actually hurts my hand to deploy the knife that way. It's too near the axis, no grip, and you somehow can't be touching the lock bar at all. With the flipper knives at least you can ignore the useless stud. Too bad, cause this knife looks amazing otherwise.

  • @maco1985
    @maco1985 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    oh Nick... this knife is not perfect for sure. What it needs is a proper break and a bit of "technique" and wider learning curve (index finger on the pivot and middle finger on the base of the clip). After week of wearing it, it's actually flickable with minor wrist action. Yes, the first couple of days are really bad.
    I don't like the pocket clip, but have no issue with putting it in my pocket as you describe.
    When CR knife is stiff as hell.. it's smooth, it has soul, heart and character. If a chinese budget knife has similar "experience" its just short review...
    Look this is a "long term relationship" knife. You must fight for it to get the love from it. It doesn't provide instant gratification nor it's perfect. Just like my wife. I love it/her.
