Geologist Dr Brooke Johnson takes us on a brief tour of the geology of the Isle of Arran, Scotland. We look at ancient rivers, deltas, deserts and fossil lighting in todays episode on the famous Corrie Shore.
This was wonderful! So dense with geology jokes and geology concepts and geology modern day comparisons. Really loved it! Will you ever host a Scotland field trip for wanna be rock lickers like us non-geologist so we can ask you loads of questions!?
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video. I'm not sure if I will be back in the UK anytime soon. But the Scottish geology trust do those kinds of talks and walks quite frequently. You can find them online on most platforms and they are super friendly.

Wow. I'm from an island just across from Arran and over the last eight years or so have been slowly getting more and more into how everything around us in the world was formed and created. The Rock formations are identical to where I live so found this video very useful.

Well I'm always free . So if you ever want to come to Marion North Carolina I can show you around these mountains and take ya to some old mica mines and I have a secret place where their is Cherokee Indian artifacts. I hike these mountains on a regular basis and know them better than anybody . I'm would love to learn hands on for certain. As much as I love nature it would come natural for me.

Actually watching this episode on the beach at Corrie. ...and can't find the lightning strike
yea.. found it.
There are a few of them, and they are tricky to find even if you know where they are. Glad you found one in the end though!
There are nice examples of fossil lightning strikes in the Permian rocks about half way along the shore from Lamlash to Brodick, unmissable at even the hightest tides (pic available)@@geologyjohnson7700
@@julesdingle we found it too, been going to Arran for over 50 yes but only recently found out how interesting Arran is for geology
I have a specimen that I would really like for someone with knowledge and absolutely certain to verify for me
Make a wee video and upload it then tag me in, I can have a look at it. Make sure the specimen is clearly lit, and there is a scale like your hand or a ruler.

I found an unidentified isopod I'm the Nebraska Sandhills. Another thing geology Johnson, quit hiding that handsome face with that beard. There aren't many handsome men in the field 😉 You should join my Sandhills Nebraska fossil group on fb. I'm s Malacologist yes, however I'm an avid fossil hunter.
Sounds cool, make a video about the isopod! The beard stays, it's helps me detect rocks in low light, and store food for long trips. You should make some videos about your molluscs!
