Ok so you want to map your akai LPD 8 with your recording software so to do that you have to go into your key commands in your recording software to start

Just. curious, why are using a different mini USB cable then the one provided. As I had an m audio Axiom 25 which I had to bin due to the mini USB port going bad. Yes I did try soldering it fixed the power but it was still not recognised buy laptop. Probably better to keep the cable in the LPD8. As taking it out and in could damage the mini USB female port of the LPD8. Mine also had an ens preset on the CD which works on program 1 using Reaktor made by Native Instruments. Which I thought was cool. Not sure about the sensitivity as I was playing in on my bed, it will probably work better on a hard surface. I think it is better if you use 2 fingers to tap. But I do not think pad sensitivity is a problem as I play guitar so my fingers are a little stronger and robust.

Hello, as i do some steetperforming, i wandered if you could assign different tracks to a pad. More concrete i might need to chose between 15 programed tracks at any given moment, and the moment i touch a pad or button the track i need at that moment would have to play. So does it has a play function? It this possible in garageband or do you need some other software? thanks

Are the pads pretty sensitive? I saw it's possible to mod it by placing thin pieces of a tape on the contacts inside the device, I guess that will increase the sensitivity a bit. Btw, is this one pretty good for multi layered drum sample libraries to be able to hear as much as possible of the sample range? I mean in case when it is used one sample for every step of the velocity range from 0 to 127. Thanks!
The pads are sensitive for programming stuff but for playing Beats there not that good but yes you can put peaces of tape under the pads are you a subscriber thanks for supporting the channel

there is a software from akai com that allows you to map your akai LPD8 you can download it for free. hello I too have the LPd8 for years and I have used it as a basic control for my DAW, Im using StudioOne now and can not map to the Lpd8 button MUTE from the software. I am not sure how to map it, can you help with that
So first thing you wanna do is go to the top and click on studio one then click on options then click on external devices then click on add and then you should be able to choose your akai LPD8 controller and then you can go into your preferences and then into where you map your controller and once it’s mapped you should be good to go anymore questions always hear to help my viewers

Ok so what you wanna do to setup a mute button you need to look around to see a setting that might say transport controls because when your mapping a midi controller all the controls are in different categories so go to the category that would have mute in it you can try the transport controls and then if that dose not have it look in a different category and you’ll find it write back for anymore help you need
Hey there! I’m doing some research on MIDI controllers and want something basic (and cheap) so I can start diving into my own beat making. Been in a band for about 7 years now and want to be able to create drum ideas to pass to my bandmates through files etc. Would this be a good introduction device for me? I’d most likely be experimenting with Logic or GarageBand on my MacBook
The drum pads on this device are not that touch sensitivity so if you want to create beats I would go for something that the drum pads are a lot better if you need help finding a midi controller that will work for you and what you need to do let me know and all be there to help you out I’m always hear for my subscribers I never let my subscribers down are you one of my subscribers

So you wanna use it for a podcast if you wanna use it for a podcast you will need to connect it to a daw witch is a recording software on a computer then map the akai LPD8 then after that connect a audio interface to the computer and then from the audio interface run a wire to the board your using for a podcast so the things you will need is a computer and the akai LPD8 and then recording software and a audio interface and what your using for your podcast and you will be good to go if you need anymore help let me know and I will help you in anyway I can

You know what might be better for you to get for a podcast is get a launch pad cause the akai LPD8 is really meant for midi but with a launch pad you can put audio files on it and you can hook it up the same way
There should be something that’s right next to your play but and stop button that’s a symbol that has 2 arrows going in a circle that’s your loop button click on that and then something should pop up on the screen that you can drag over top of that area you want to loop in your song
The only thing about the akai LPD8 is the pads are kind of hard to touch So the nano pad might be better you will have to read about both and see witch one is more touch sensitivity thank you so much for your support
Hi. I'm totally new to the field and this would be the first device I ever purchase. I want to know what I can and cannot do with it. Basically, I want to use samples and lofi tunes and mix and layer..so I can create 'songs' from A to Z on a device. Will this be a good choice? Also, I have PC, not mac. Which version of MacOS are you using? I have trouble with installing the (newest version from the Akai-homepage) editor software under 10.15. Catalina.
@@GoldenProductions2019 Obviously the Akai lpd8 editor software doesn't work with MacOS 10.15 or higher. The problem might be the switch done by apple to only allow 64bit-software in newer OS-versions. So the editor software might be still in 32bit-mode and isn't supported by up to date OS versions. It's unbelievable that Akai didn't bring an update until today. Yes, we are talking about a product that has been on the market for a long time but you can still buy it as new in the music stores... And of cause there are no hints about this software issue before you do the purchase.
Well the other thing is the akai LPD8 they don’t make it anymore it’s a old product and they came out with a lot new apple products so like updates for the Mac so if you have a old update of a Mac then it might not run on your Mac
And the akai lpd8 software the editor use to be a old software editor so they did update it a few years ago but they came out with so many new akai products over those few years
Hi, I have just bought this device and I want to use it as a toggle switch. i. e. I have to send " cc 100 value 127" to turn a function on and "cc100 value 0" to turn the function off. When I use the pad 1, set it to toggle mode, program cc100 to it and hit the pad, the receiving app shows "cc100 value 10" at the first hit. "cc100 value 0" at the second hit. What I mean, it presents random values to the host app. But I want to toggle between "0" and "127", and no other values. Is this possible, or do I have to send it back?
So the akai LPD8 has different banks that you use so set stuff up so pick a bank and then use that one band to set everything up but what you have to do is once you pick a bank and set something up then you have to go back to that bank to set the next thing up
I have Lpd8 and a Microcosm pedal. I'd like to CC map the Lpd8 to control the knobs and buttons on the Microcosm pedal, but I can't figure out how to do it... I just know it can be done. I use Ableton and Logic. Could you advise on how to set this up? The Microcosm lists all the CC mappings but when I change the cc on the Lpd8 it doesn't affect the Microcosm. I know I'm doing something wrong, just can't figure out what. Guidance would be much appreciated... I'm sure others will be want to know too how to map the Lpd8 to an effects/guitar pedal. Thanks
Ok give me some time to do some research on it the only thing is the akai LPD8 is a midi controller and a guitar pedal is audio so midi and audio are to different things but give me some time to do some research and see what I can find out for you
@@GoldenProductions2019 Thanks so much. The Microcosm, although you put audio through it (gat, Vox etc), can be controlled by midi. I just can't figure out how to do it. I'd like o be able to use the Microcosm in both situations, and control the knobs/buttons with the LPD8. Thanks for any guidance, very grateful.

Hey man so i looked at that link you send me and did you try using a midi cable or a midi interface that goes from your pedal to your computer and then once you have your midi cable or midi interface you can map your akai LPD8 in your daw to work with your pedal let me know if you need anymore help
@@GoldenProductions2019 There is a midi in and out at the back, and in the manual the manufacturers list the cc values which control the pedal. So it is possible to control the pedal with a midi controller, I just don't know how to program / set up the midi controller to control the pedal. I've got midi cables going into the midi in/out of the audio interface into the out/in of the pedal, but my question begins there. When I change the cc values in the Akai, it doesn't change the pedal parameters. I'm missing some steps, I just don't know what they are. Thanks for trying.

You can program any pad or knob to any plug-in in your daw and yes you can do that you just need to go into the controller assginments in your daw and set everything up there
hey is it possible to sync akai lpd8 with any hardware? like for example volca keys? my gear is arturia keystep, volca keys, nts 1 and pocket operator ko33
You can map the akai LPD8 to your daw of choice so if your using like Logic or ableton you can made it so what ever buttons you press on the akai LPD8 you can control your daw with it

Reading reviews on Amazon it seems to be hit or miss. I would order 5, test them, choose the most sensitive one, return rest. People did side by side comparison and they differ widely.
@@stormwaker I think this guy plays guitar so he would have more robust fingers, I think people with sensitivity problems should try tapping the pads with 2 fingers.
I have a question! If I want to play live and I have, for example, 7 songs, I know It´s not gonna be sufficient with 4 programs. I need to have 7 different programs, because each song has a different mapping, is it possible to have more programs?
What you can do it map the song In a daw then when you wanna play the song you can map your akai LPD8 to switch to that song that’s in your daw I think that would be a lot easier if you have anymore questions please let me know I’m also hear for my subscribers

So program change and cc is the way you program your akai LPD8 so you can program it in cc mode or you can program it in program change mode you said you where new to daws I would learn your daw first and then worry about learning the products and what they stand for that’s my advice for you
has anyone found a solution on how to use the progammer software on mac os catalina (and upwards)? right now I had to use my old macbook pro with high sierra, but it's not really an ideal solution
@@GoldenProductions2019 it's not compatible with latest mac os, and akai seems to not care to update it, so with the 2 latest mac os there is no way to program the lpd8 So I'm searching for a workaround (different than using my eleven years old macbook pro)
You downloaded the akai LPD8 editor you mean the akai LPD8 editor is not ment to make music it’s supposed to be used for programming The lpd8 edited is not suppose to make any noise it’s only ment for programming your akai LPD8 product that’s it
You have to setup the sound in a VST instrument on a recording software then map the akai LPD8 to that VST instrument in your recording software and then when you press the pad on the akai LPD8 it will play the sound you want to hear

Hey bro the akai MPC one music production workstation you can use live but it is at a high price any product that has a input and output on the back of it you can use live cause you run the input and output into a PA system or when ever your using live for sound if you would like me to keep looking I can and see what I can find for you just let me know when your looking for in the product

I just downloaded the LPD8 software to my video down below just scroll down a little bit in the discripion and you will see it it will be by my social media’s
@@timjoseph887 so there could be a few things why your getting delay when you hit the pad number one your buffer size could be there wrong size and that could be why your getting delay
mine is velocity sensitive. I made it slightly more so by taking it apart and placing 2 strips of tape on each pad. There was a video on youtube somewhere about the mod.
@@GoldenProductions2019 Yes works great now, just a slight tap needed for low velocity. If I remember just remove knobs and 8 screws on back. Use a model knife to cut thin pvc tape strips that go either side of centre lights. I cant remember if I doubled up on tape thickness but its best doing one and roughly re-assembling to test out before doing all 8 pads.

Akai don’t support the LPD8 for years now. Their Editor is totally worthless if you don’t still have a computer with a 10 years old system. No update are “up to date”. I’m very frustrated that Akai left their users down like this. LPD8 is not a legacy product and it’s not the only one with this problem. I love Akai’s pads but this is a total turn off.
The akai LPD8 is a old product so the software dose not really work for it anymore but what you can do it map your akai LPD8 inside of your daw your recording software and use it that way so you can still use the akai LPD8 and map it inside your daw and use the akai LPD8 to control your daw or play drums on it so it’s still useable Let me know if you need anything els always hear to help man are you subscribed to me

Don't buy it if you use mac! Driver support from Akai is terrible, there is no support even for Catalina. If windows 11 will require different drivers than 10 it will be basically a dead product.
The editor is very basic. You just map the notes like a2 to a4, like a keyboard. You don't really need it. It does not do too much. All it does for knobs is adjust the range. Tip: Use a guitar tuner plugin connected to your Synth so you know what key is being played. I know Ableton has a tuner plugin that you can put straight after the synth. Or just use a phone with a tuner app, it will tell you what key is played. U should be able to select the LPD8 in you midi DAW setting, it is nothing to do with the operating system.
This is bullshit. 1. The editor doesnt come with it, I had to go to a 2nd hand download place to find it. 2. Once you get the editor and I jump through the hoops it gives me an error message and tells me to reconnect. Ive seen video after video and will admit your is the best but still nothing unless I manually program beats. Ive seen a hundred people start off with alls you got to do and show me how to make beats after its set up

Can I add sound effects to it? Like if I just wanted to use it as a sound effects board?
Yes you can like if you have a VST instrument you can drag and drop sound effect onto the VST instrument and map the sounds to the pads
Under preference- there are: General, Display, Transition, Plug Ins, Advanced, Sharing /. Is that the right area?

Are the pads pretty sensitive? I saw it's possible to mod it by placing thin pieces of a tape on the contacts inside the device, I guess that will increase the sensitivity a bit. Btw, is this one pretty good for multi layered drum sample libraries to be able to hear as much as possible of the sample range? I mean in case when it is used one sample for every step of the velocity range from 0 to 127. Thanks!

there is a software from akai com that allows you to map your akai LPD8 you can download it for free. Another way you can make it work is by going into logic and go into file and go to device setup and in there you can map your akai LPD8

hello I too have the LPd8 for years and I have used it as a basic control for my DAW, Im using StudioOne now and can not map to the Lpd8 button MUTE from the software. I am not sure how to map it, can you help with that
So first thing you wanna do is go to the top and click on studio one then click on options then click on external devices then click on add and then you should be able to choose your akai LPD8 controller and then you can go into your preferences and then into where you map your controller and once it’s mapped you should be good to go anymore questions always hear to help my viewers

Ok so what you wanna do to setup a mute button you need to look around to see a setting that might say transport controls because when your mapping a midi controller all the controls are in different categories so go to the category that would have mute in it you can try the transport controls and then if that dose not have it look in a different category and you’ll find it write back for anymore help you need
If you haven’t setup your mute button yet you can search for the mute button setting in your mapping controls like I said in the categories

I’m doing some research on MIDI controllers and want something basic (and cheap) so I can start diving into my own beat making. Been in a band for about 7 years now and want to be able to create drum ideas to pass to my bandmates through files etc.
Would this be a good introduction device for me? I’d most likely be experimenting with Logic or GarageBand on my MacBook

You know what might be better for you to get for a podcast is get a launch pad cause the akai LPD8 is really meant for midi but with a launch pad you can put audio files on it and you can hook it up the same way

There should be something that’s right next to your play but and stop button that’s a symbol that has 2 arrows going in a circle that’s your loop button click on that and then something should pop up on the screen that you can drag over top of that area you want to loop in your song

Which version of MacOS are you using? I have trouble with installing the (newest version from the Akai-homepage) editor software under 10.15. Catalina.
I’m using a Mac mini so if your having trouble installing the editor try updating your Mac or you might have a old version of Mac OS
@@GoldenProductions2019 Obviously the Akai lpd8 editor software doesn't work with MacOS 10.15 or higher. The problem might be the switch done by apple to only allow 64bit-software in newer OS-versions. So the editor software might be still in 32bit-mode and isn't supported by up to date OS versions. It's unbelievable that Akai didn't bring an update until today. Yes, we are talking about a product that has been on the market for a long time but you can still buy it as new in the music stores... And of cause there are no hints about this software issue before you do the purchase.
Well the other thing is the akai LPD8 they don’t make it anymore it’s a old product and they came out with a lot new apple products so like updates for the Mac so if you have a old update of a Mac then it might not run on your Mac
And the akai lpd8 software the editor use to be a old software editor so they did update it a few years ago but they came out with so many new akai products over those few years
Hi, I have just bought this device and I want to use it as a toggle switch. i. e. I have to send " cc 100 value 127" to turn a function on and "cc100 value 0" to turn the function off.
When I use the pad 1, set it to toggle mode, program cc100 to it and hit the pad, the receiving app shows "cc100 value 10" at the first hit. "cc100 value 0" at the second hit. What I mean, it presents random values to the host app. But I want to toggle between "0" and "127", and no other values.
Is this possible, or do I have to send it back?
So the akai LPD8 has different banks that you use so set stuff up so pick a bank and then use that one band to set everything up but what you have to do is once you pick a bank and set something up then you have to go back to that bank to set the next thing up
I have Lpd8 and a Microcosm pedal. I'd like to CC map the Lpd8 to control the knobs and buttons on the Microcosm pedal, but I can't figure out how to do it... I just know it can be done. I use Ableton and Logic. Could you advise on how to set this up? The Microcosm lists all the CC mappings but when I change the cc on the Lpd8 it doesn't affect the Microcosm. I know I'm doing something wrong, just can't figure out what. Guidance would be much appreciated... I'm sure others will be want to know too how to map the Lpd8 to an effects/guitar pedal. Thanks
Ok give me some time to do some research on it the only thing is the akai LPD8 is a midi controller and a guitar pedal is audio so midi and audio are to different things but give me some time to do some research and see what I can find out for you

The Microcosm can be used for guitar or Vox, which input into the audio interface, or, you can use a VST in your DAW and then use an 'external audio device' (the microcosm, in this case) to effect the VST. @@GoldenProductions2019 There is a midi in and out at the back, and in the manual the manufacturers list the cc values which control the pedal. So it is possible to control the pedal with a midi controller, I just don't know how to program / set up the midi controller to control the pedal. I've got midi cables going into the midi in/out of the audio interface into the out/in of the pedal, but my question begins there. When I change the cc values in the Akai, it doesn't change the pedal parameters. I'm missing some steps, I just don't know what they are. Thanks for trying.

You can program any pad or knob to any plug-in in your daw and yes you can do that you just need to go into the controller assginments in your daw and set everything up there

Reading reviews on Amazon it seems to be hit or miss. I would order 5, test them, choose the most sensitive one, return rest. People did side by side comparison and they differ widely.
@@stormwaker I think this guy plays guitar so he would have more robust fingers, I think people with sensitivity problems should try tapping the pads with 2 fingers.

The thing is you can loop in ableton so you could setup a bunch of different sessions and then when you wanna switch to a different song map your akai mpd8 in ableton to switch to a different song let me know how els I can help you I’m also hear

So program change and cc is the way you program your akai LPD8 so you can program it in cc mode or you can program it in program change mode you said you where new to daws I would learn your daw first and then worry about learning the products and what they stand for that’s my advice for you

You have to setup the sound in a VST instrument on a recording software then map the akai LPD8 to that VST instrument in your recording software and then when you press the pad on the akai LPD8 it will play the sound you want to hear

I almost sell mine. Pads arent velocity sensitive but the programmable knobs are too helpful. programmable presets are the good things in it.
Using it to get around your daw is great with the knobs thank you for your support I post every Friday
mine is velocity sensitive. I made it slightly more so by taking it apart and placing 2 strips of tape on each pad. There was a video on youtube somewhere about the mod.

@@GoldenProductions2019 Yes works great now, just a slight tap needed for low velocity. If I remember just remove knobs and 8 screws on back. Use a model knife to cut thin pvc tape strips that go either side of centre lights. I cant remember if I doubled up on tape thickness but its best doing one and roughly re-assembling to test out before doing all 8 pads.

Cc is how you program the akai LPD8 it stands for the programming the pads
Akai don’t support the LPD8 for years now. Their Editor is totally worthless if you don’t still have a computer with a 10 years old system. No update are “up to date”. I’m very frustrated that Akai left their users down like this. LPD8 is not a legacy product and it’s not the only one with this problem. I love Akai’s pads but this is a total turn off.
The akai LPD8 is a old product so the software dose not really work for it anymore but what you can do it map your akai LPD8 inside of your daw your recording software and use it that way so you can still use the akai LPD8 and map it inside your daw and use the akai LPD8 to control your daw or play drums on it so it’s still useable

Don't buy it if you use mac! Driver support from Akai is terrible, there is no support even for Catalina. If windows 11 will require different drivers than 10 it will be basically a dead product.
You can still by it for Mac and use it to map it in your recording software
The editor is very basic. You just map the notes like a2 to a4, like a keyboard. You don't really need it. It does not do too much. All it does for knobs is adjust the range.
Tip: Use a guitar tuner plugin connected to your Synth so you know what key is being played. I know Ableton has a tuner plugin that you can put straight after the synth. Or just use a phone with a tuner app, it will tell you what key is played.
U should be able to select the LPD8 in you midi DAW setting, it is nothing to do with the operating system.

This is bullshit. 1. The editor doesnt come with it, I had to go to a 2nd hand download place to find it. 2. Once you get the editor and I jump through the hoops it gives me an error message and tells me to reconnect. Ive seen video after video and will admit your is the best but still nothing unless I manually program beats. Ive seen a hundred people start off with alls you got to do and show me how to make beats after its set up
