RIP Layne Staley, Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell and Scott Weiland. You guys created one of the greatest genres of music and I'll always be listening. Thank you.
many people say how can a person like chris who was so loved do what he did..the problem is no matter how much other people love you, how much money, fame and cars you have, there is only one person we spend our whole lives with, YOU. if You dont love You, there is no fix. I speak from experience, and it saddens me to see chris and chester gone now, as I lost my father. A man so deeply admired by so many, The real sadness is that the person didn't find the love in themselves to stick around. We all want to cry and say he left us, but he also left himself. Stay good everyone and love yourself.
Before the internet you felt so lucky to stumble across such a video on television. And the enthusiasm would grow to buy the record because of such a rare treat. All the associations leading up to buying the record, physically, would only add to the experience. In the digital age of consuming music - we’ve lost something precious.
I was just going to say this same thing in the digital internet age, there is nothing left to be desired. Everything in an instant. A blessing and a curse. Definitely not good for generations who never experienced a simpler time

The solo is one of Kim's best. They were all amazing... grew up on Soundgarden. Happy I got to finally see them live a few years before Chris killed himself. RIP Chris.

Mine was event based and thank goodness temporary, but it gave me at least a little insight into what it is like for those who have chronic depression and how difficult it is to live with it. Never talk down, never judge, until you've walked in their shoes. I used to do just that, never again. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

+777Lateralus 5 good songs? An which five from Sound Gardens catalog would you say those tracks are? You know what hasn't changed since the 90's? Music Nazis that try and oppress other people's likes and dislikes by making moronic statements about bands they know nothing about?

A one of a kind talent for sure
listen to Matt Cameron's drumming on the outro to "somewhere" transcendent and blissful. I'm a drummer and that is some of the best patterns I've heard
+Crabmaster had? no sir, I'm going to be 32 in a week and my teenage days are here to stay. not saying I don't have responsibilities now but I'm going to stay young till I die!
Werd. I was about 12 when grunge exploded through '92, and it was the perfect soundtrack for that interesting and mind-expanding transition from preteen to teenager. Soundgarden...Alice In Chains...Nirvana...Pearl Jam....Temple of the Dog...Mother Love Bone...Helmet...Chili Peppers...Faith No More...STP...Metallica...GnR...Tool. What a time to be alive. My world revolved around MTV, anime, videogames (Were you a Genesis or Super Nintendo guy?), and cute girls. Pretty much like my world today (minus MTV...RIP), but it was all fresh and new and exciting back then.
As a teenager living in 2023, i find it so sad that barely any of the kids my age listen to this amazing music. I feel like the new world of music only revolves around people like Taylor Swift and ice spice but people forget to look back at the masterpeice that is grunge rock. RIP Chris Cornell, Kurt Cobain, Scott Weiland, Layne Stayley, Andrew Wood, and all of the amazing grunge rockers who have passed away.
its good to know the younger crowd still keep this stuff alive. lol you got me with andrew wood kid so many people even my age have no idea about mother love bone, good on you.
they rlly don’t when the “big 4 of grunge” gets brought up their usually the last to get mentioned and it’s annoying when PJ or Nirvana get brought up first yeah they’re good but not Soundgarden and AIC good
Many people may see this song as a premonition of what happened. But I see it as him finding strength in a situation and telling the person who defined him in that moment that he was done with their control over him. This song is him showing strength in the best way he could.
The Guitar work is by Kim Thayil, one of the nost gifted Guitarists of Grunge era. Add Matt the drummer, Ben the Bassist & Chris 'the howler' Cornell and u get the best band of 90s
This is one of my favourite Soundgarden tracks. Sounds still so refreshing compared to much of current rock music. Soundgarden were one of the most sophisticated grunge era bands with their chord structures. Their chord structures are just so fucking cool especially on songs like this. And I've always loved Matt Cameron's drumming, a very essential part of the Soundgarden sound just like Dave Grohl was for Nirvana. They are both drummers who's playing draws ones attention unlike many other drummers.
Justin It's my favorite Soundgarden tune. Just wish it didn't have to become a reality. I knew it was gonna be a long day at work, but hearing about it on NPR during the drive in is no way to start the day. Rest in peace.
Thought I was gonna end myself one day with life's stress today, but sung my lungs out when this song came on, did a huge sigh, and took a step back to look at myself. Thankful for music to pull us from when we're under the fires of life.
I often come back to Soundgarden tracks when I need inspiration to write heavy metal tracks. Chris is such an underrated guitarist, that it's not even funny. The whole band just kicks ass.
Saw them at reading festival in 1995. Didn't realize it then but how lucky was I to see them. Great singer, great band, great time to be alive. RIP Chris.
so many cool bands during my teenage years. soungarden was just one of them. each week each month you hear new cool bands on mtv... in my view 90's was the golden age of rock music.
Christopher Turney cool! Someone told me about them on TH-cam this year and they are insane. All of their KEXP stuff is incredible. Def check out “crumbling castle” too! 🤟🏻
Alice in chains are my personal favourite of this era. But soundgarden are a supergroup unto themselves. Imagine how Chris must have felt playing in front of those 3.... the individual musical personality and chemistry they have is lightning in a bottle.
the fact that Chris took his life doesn't now make this song "ironic". It's really the exact opposite of ironic. He always addressed the forces of inner darkness in every song he made - it was that core creative/destructive being that created all that amazing art he has left us with. Pretty Noose isn't ironic of his death, it's an ultimate expression of those incredibly powerful forces, just like his death was.
Chris Cornell was one of the most beautiful men on this earth and one of the most awesome vocalists ever!!!! I wish you were still here. You still should be here.
RIP, Chris!! This song (and band in general) got me through some really tough times when I was younger, and it still does today. I know how it feels to be unhappy even though lots of people love you. It is not easy, and sometimes it feels like it gets worse the older I get, but I am trying my best!! I've made it 48 years so far ☺ To anyone out there who is suffering from the same feelings, just know that you are not in this alone, and I love you. ♥ Anyway, that's all I have to say. This dude is off to listen to some more awesome tunes. ✌ y'all!!!
Sound Garden a awesome group, Chris Cornell awesome Singer sad he passed away was near my age may Chris Cornell RIP 💐 I'm glad you made it to 48,I'm 57 I understand how it can be,my brother Barry told me before persevere, never give up ❤

SoundGarden is one of those bands that with RARELY exceptions ALL the members are top level musicians, just like the Beatles or PinkFloyd, where all the members were talented and multifaceted. The bassist (Ben Shepherd) is a monster, the drummer (Matt Cameron) is a killer, the guitarist (Kim Thayil) is breathtaking in the tuning and complexity of the riffs, and Cornell sings like a God of Olympus, as well as playing very well, it's a band that has everything in terms of music, composition, chords, sonority, it's like a classical music show where the Maestro is rock n roll.

Does it get any better than this? Yes, yes it does, the legend lives on in our hearts, and it makes all that much sweeter. Chris Cornell, one of the greatest voices in rock ever.
This song is gonna be difficult to listen to from now on... Depression is truly an awful thing and it pains me so much that a man so loved and who had so much to live for could see no light at the end of the tunnel... I just wish I could give him a big hug and can't imagine how his family must feel. We have lost a legend but he will never be forgotten. I am so upset... Rest in peace. X
Josefine Lea well said for I know exactly how he felt,as I myself deal with the same battles as he did&then some&have my whole life...sadly,there's not much that we can do to help ourselves with the battles that come from within ourselves,as well as on the outside...all we can do though,is to keep up the good fight and rage against the awful storms that come from within or out,to save ourselves from this beautiful thing we call life, but yet a lot of times,it's very sad&ugly...I pray that this beautiful man's truly at peace now,he was such a talented, sweet, humble&beautiful soul, that only wanted to sing his wonderful music with his phenomenal voice&to truly be loved, the way that he loved, which was wholeheartedly...I myself, don't think that he ever got that...#RIPUSWEETAMAZINGBEAUTIFULMAN #ILLALWAYSLOVEU#UWNBF 😍😔❤️💔✝️🎶🎤🎸🔊
"'Fell on Black Days' was like this ongoing fear I've had for years ... It's a feeling that everyone gets. You're happy with your life, everything's going well, things are exciting-when all of a sudden you realize you're unhappy in the extreme, to the point of being really, really scared. There's no particular event you can pin the feeling down to, it's just that you realize one day that everything in your life is fucked." If you've seen "The End of the Tour" you will find that these words are stunningly similar to things that David Foster Wallace (who also hanged himself) said. RIP, Chris
I have one more thing to add that I meant to write earlier and that is as follows may your music 🎶 live on forever and may you rest in peace my dear Chris XXX

I still can't believe this beautiful, talented soul is no longer here anymore! Feels like a close friend has died. Thank you for the amazing 25 years, Chris! Rest easy, friend.
This was my favorite Cornell tune. It's gotten me through some really rough times, and sadly with his death, this is an unfortunately appropriate song. RIP Chris.
When I heard that Chris died, I was in the car driving, crying my eyes out. I was devastated. I can’t believe it’s been a year already. RIP to such a humble and fun spirit. Love you 😭❤️
"I got the perfect steal, a cleaner love with a dirty feel....alright". Perfect. Chris, Layne, Kurt, Scott...... just unfuckingbelievable. They changed the entire music scene with music that stands up with any band in history. In my humble opinion.
My first Soundgarden album that i owned. I played at a friend's house and he had a powerful music system. He was not into rock, and this song fuckin freaked him good time.
You've touched my heart and soul more than just about any musician on the face of this earth. Today, for the first time in my 23 years on this planet, I cried and wept like a baby over a "celebrity" death.Although you've never known me, I have known and loved you dearly since childhood.RIP Chris
i have been here twice as long and would have said same 23 yrs ago and still in agreement with that now! i just dont think it possible for any other to have such an impact on me. thank you for putting that into words for me.
Cornell and staley are my 2 favourite vocalists of all time,Cornells death was a tough one to take because I thought he would be making great music for years to come.
This just kicks the ever lovin' sheit out of today's mainstream music, just fucking melts it into the mindless sludge it is. So fucking proud to be a child of the 90's. Fuck yeah! Our bands kicked ass. Fuck geneXt.
I dedicate 2021 to Soundgarden. Can't believe it took me till age 26/27 to really get into them. I was (and still am) an Alice in Chains fanboy lol, but for this strange period in my life, SG has just really struck a chord or two. I remember when Chris died a few years ago and I thought "damn, that's a bummer." Now... I very much wish the guy was still around making music.. or just living his own life for that matter.
Its time to stick soundgarden in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame they deserve it!
Yes I agree awesome group Chris Cornell a awesome singer,RIP💐

I'd say Layne Staley was better, but he died sooner, even more tragically. It's like a great voice becomes a curse.
I listen all the time and i just thought....damn ...so talented...that voice...seen him live a bunch...went to the top row in the far corner of jones beach new york during the show to puff and all i thought with my friends was wow...his voice is still ripping all the way back here...it just went up to the sky. A one of a kind talent for sure
Not quite my favorite, almost, but clearly the best
One of the best underrated drummers ever.
listen to Matt Cameron's drumming on the outro to "somewhere" transcendent and blissful. I'm a drummer and that is some of the best patterns I've heard
One of the few best drummers, ever.
Not underrated by me. My Fave drummer.
Super boring drummer to watch imho
don't watch then
Still hard to comprehend that he gone, love his vocals. Soundgarden are still one of my top 5 bands. Still listening to their music at 50 years old.
I am 65 and grew up with classic rock. My son told me about Soundgarden and they are my favorite now❤❤
I'm 46 , n feel the same ..salute 🍻🙋🏾♂️
Hitting 70 soon and still loving it.
Hitting 86 soon and loving it myself no McDonald’s tho
They were special
Love this song. Love him. The guitars in this song are out of this world. Chris Cornell you are so missed! ❤
the tuning of the guitars is amazing. A beatiful open C
Let’s not forget Matt Cameron. This is a monster of a drum part that is essential to the song.
So good
90's rock the best decade of my teenage life.....
I too had a teenage life that was longer than 7 years
+Crabmaster lmao
Pretty much like my world today (minus MTV...RIP), but it was all fresh and new and exciting back then.
there is less than one decade in any teens life , seven years to be exact. 13-19
Still my favorite Soundgarden song. It hurts to think too hard about it but it's still perfection.
▶️🅰️🎧🎸🙋♂️🌸
I hate how the lyrics are basically his life. But I love Chris and everything he’s ever made
Do you know why you like it so much? I'd be disappointed if since I'm older, I can no longer like it new anymore.
TEXAS BLUEGRASS EXACTLY 💯 PERCENT BRAVO 👏 HAPPY NEW YEAR'S THANKS LORETTA LOVE YOUR COMMENT UNBELIEVABLE AMAZING AND AWESOME
@@adrianbalmes5704what
As a teenager living in 2023, i find it so sad that barely any of the kids my age listen to this amazing music.
Eminem is great, it's Taylor Swift that's the outlier. My god, she's so OVERRATED!!!!
@@mindriot91_96 yea, I was trying to make a reference to popular artist now but I couldn't think of any. I changed it to ice spice
its good to know the younger crowd still keep this stuff alive. lol you got me with andrew wood kid so many people even my age have no idea about mother love bone, good on you.
Fr I'm a teenager too and I love soundgarden! People these days have no true music taste!!! I hate Taylor swift
They don’t and it’s fuckin sad but cheers to you.
Soundgarden was pivotal and super influential. It's almost like they don't get the same acknowledgment as others bc their greatness is so obvious.
they rlly don’t when the “big 4 of grunge” gets brought up their usually the last to get mentioned and it’s annoying when PJ or Nirvana get brought up first yeah they’re good but not Soundgarden and AIC good
🔥
The time period of being a teen during these years was SO FUCKING AWESOME! I love the memories i have of growing up to this!
jeremy s yessss
Yes indeed! Long live grunge!!
Would have like to be a teen in the 90's as my uncle so much !
me being like 8 years old and my older brother playing soundgarden all day on cassette. the good ol days
was in my 20's living in my home state in washington when all this was going on, good times never to be forgotten
right now I've pretty much moved past the grief stage and now I'm just loving what he gave us
Short Tom Am still in the grief stage, added w/the ANGER stage...he was murdered
Im getting there but its still hard.
Brandon Duncan me too
Short Tom What THEY gave us too. Soundgarden passed away too.
My girl
“Pretty noose is pretty hate”
That’s one of those lyrics that, even as a young kid in the 90s, really threw me for a loop. Perfect lyrical artistry…
Best era of music ever in my opinion...
Absolutely one of a kind voice. There will never be another
Agreed
I agree great singer and guitar I remember in the 90s
Still, Burton Cummings of The Guess Who always reminds me of him - or the other way around...
No one sings like him anymore.
Best rock voice .
Ben Shepherd is a seriously underrated bass player.
Very creative punk rock recklessness with the wisdom of a seasoned bassist.
Well put sir
the chording🥰
Yea, for sure
Many people may see this song as a premonition of what happened. But I see it as him finding strength in a situation and telling the person who defined him in that moment that he was done with their control over him. This song is him showing strength in the best way he could.
I agree great singer and guitar, I remember in90s
You speak well. Glad someone on the internet does.👍
Agreed, and the instrumentals back that up 1000%.
This song is not about suicide ,it's about a controlling woman
Last time I was in Detroit I didn't hang myself.
Damn...7 years...we miss you brother.
Matt Cameron is one of the best drummers ever.
Best grunge band drummer hall of fame
I’m not saying he isn’t but people literally say that about every bands drummer on TH-cam videos
@@DrunkenSlob and they're wrong. its Matt Cameron
Cameron and Lars from Metallica!
Jason Compau lol idk if this is sarcastic or not but did you hear St. Anger
The Guitar work is by Kim Thayil, one of the nost gifted Guitarists of Grunge era. Add Matt the drummer, Ben the Bassist & Chris 'the howler' Cornell and u get the best band of 90s
khaadkoo✨❤️♥️❤️✨🎸🎤🎸🎧🙌🏻
Kim cant play a solo to save his life though. I'd say Cantrell is the best guitarrist of the grunge era.
please explain, from what individual perspective are you taking this from....srv...
OcelotDAD you can't say one is better than the other. their styles are so different.
@@OcelotDAD mccready is better, matt is def the best drummer of that era
We should be fortunate that men like chris existed who sang their hearts out! No fake ass pop sh*t. Just genuine music echoing straight from the soul.
This song is really fucking sad now.
Justin It's my favorite Soundgarden tune. Just wish it didn't have to become a reality. I knew it was gonna be a long day at work, but hearing about it on NPR during the drive in is no way to start the day.
Rest in peace.
Bro, I heard the news on NPR too on the way to work.
this is so sad rn
Seriously. So is "Like Suicide." I've been hearing all kinds of new lyrical shades today as I listened to his music.
was one of my top 3 from soundgarden. hard to hear it now
these guys were so far beyond all of their peers. light years ahead.
Thought I was gonna end myself one day with life's stress today, but sung my lungs out when this song came on, did a huge sigh, and took a step back to look at myself. Thankful for music to pull us from when we're under the fires of life.
I know that
I know that
I know that
Love this nostalgia feeling it brings for a time I've never lived. RIP Chris
There will never be another like Chris. His voice alone was in a league of its own
I often come back to Soundgarden tracks when I need inspiration to write heavy metal tracks. Chris is such an underrated guitarist, that it's not even funny. The whole band just kicks ass.
Chris, thank you for making my life a little more bearable. R.I.P. 1964-2017
Saw them at reading festival in 1995. Didn't realize it then but how lucky was I to see them. Great singer, great band, great time to be alive. RIP Chris.
You were super lucky to have seen the only live performance of "Kristi"
I was there as well, saw some epic bands at Reading Festival including Foo Fighters
Well, this song is never going to be quite the same again. RIP Chris.
Read a couple posts up, it's not about what you think
Fuck, Chris. Woke up crying. Rest In Peace, you amazing man.
WTF woke up crying? What are u ref to? Plz tell me I guess I missed that.
He didn't wake up.
@@dustythe2nd188 Steven woke up crying, not Chris :P
so many cool bands during my teenage years. soungarden was just one of them. each week each month you hear new cool bands on mtv... in my view 90's was the golden age of rock music.
Golden age of any music. These punks today don't even put in the work. Its a shame Taylor Swift and Cardi B go harder than all make groups
Christopher Turney these guys are pretty awesome. th-cam.com/video/L6jWaF6dTM0/w-d-xo.html
@@thatsamazin- saved gonna listen later
Christopher Turney cool! Someone told me about them on TH-cam this year and they are insane. All of their KEXP stuff is incredible. Def check out “crumbling castle” too! 🤟🏻
Alice in chains are my personal favourite of this era. But soundgarden are a supergroup unto themselves. Imagine how Chris must have felt playing in front of those 3.... the individual musical personality and chemistry they have is lightning in a bottle.
▶️🅰️🎧🎸🙋♂️🌸
The 2 best bands from that era. Not even close.....
AIC for life
He used to be the drummer. They had to convince him that he sang as well as he did and deserved to stand in front. He ended up taking to it well.
I thought this is a soundgarden comment section, peeps always have to voice incoherent stuff yawn...
His voice is a piercing arrow of fire.
the fact that Chris took his life doesn't now make this song "ironic".
Well put man, 1000% correct

The bassist (Ben Shepherd) is a monster, the drummer (Matt Cameron) is a killer, the guitarist (Kim Thayil) is breathtaking in the tuning and complexity of the riffs, and Cornell sings like a God of Olympus, as well as playing very well, it's a band that has everything in terms of music, composition, chords, sonority, it's like a classical music show where the Maestro is rock n roll.
this is actually one of my favorite sound garden songs. amazing.

One of the best bass rifts I've ever heard.

There's no particular event you can pin the feeling down to, it's just that you realize one day that everything in your life is fucked."
If you've seen "The End of the Tour" you will find that these words are stunningly similar to things that David Foster Wallace (who also hanged himself) said.
RIP, Chris

I have one more thing to add that I meant to write earlier and that is as follows may your music 🎶 live on forever and may you rest in peace my dear Chris XXX

I learned to look at the heart instead of aesthetic appearance which has prevented mistakes in some relationships.
I wish I could've seen them in concert before Chris passed, my absolute favorite band of all time. Such a creative original group in my eyes.
He was so beautiful.
This was my favorite Cornell tune. It's gotten me through some really rough times, and sadly with his death, this is an unfortunately appropriate song. RIP Chris.

RIP RIP RIP. Why is the best music from dead guys?
Wow, He could hit the high notes.
When I heard that Chris died, I was in the car driving, crying my eyes out. I was devastated. I can’t believe it’s been a year already. RIP to such a humble and fun spirit. Love you 😭❤️
This song slays and the bass player kills it ...
Wow, what a voice, what a band. This is real music.
"I got the perfect steal, a cleaner love with a dirty feel....alright". Perfect. Chris, Layne, Kurt, Scott...... just unfuckingbelievable. They changed the entire music scene with music that stands up with any band in history. In my humble opinion.
This is my absolute favorite SG song.
My first Soundgarden album that i owned. I played at a friend's house and he had a powerful music system. He was not into rock, and this song fuckin freaked him good time.
