The best hack I have found for cutting with dies on the Texture Boutique is to go to Dollar Tree and get one of the 8" by 6" green cutting mats like they use to cut fabric on. I cut mine to fit in the opening of the Texture Boutique. I cut it to about 4 1/4 inches wide and left the length alone. So here is the sandwich setup. Take one of the black plates, the machine comes with, then the green cutting mat, printed side up, then your paper on top of the green mat, then your die on the paper with the cutting edges face down, then your other black plate. This way you will not cut into your black plates at all, possibly ruining them. The green mat takes all the pressure and impression from the cutting die and so far all my cuts have not needed any extra shims. Of course, add thin shims, if needed. This has worked GREAT for me on smallish dies. That way I don't have pull out my Big Shot machine. Using this method, I don't struggle with getting shim sandwiches right and the sandwich glides through the machine with ease. Hope this helps. I love my Texture Boutique machine. I just got a 2nd hand one of these machine but it never came with anything else. Do you know what I could use instead of these said black plates please. Thank you
@@JoansJunkJournalsAndMore Hi, the black plates aren't expensive and can be found on eBay or Amazon. They are called Texture Boutique Embossing plates. Remember this machine was made only for using embossing folders, but I wanted to use my cutting dies with it too. So if you follow my above directions, you can use the machine for both embossing AND cutting. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, I'll try to help!
Oh my gosh … you’re a genius !!! I got mine as a freebie at a yard sale ( it’s so darn cute and portable )… it does have the two black plates. I have the cuttlebug and the sizzix but have been scared to try this one because the plates are so thin. I’m soooo going to do your hack !!! And wouldn’t you know it .. I found a Texture Boutique at a thrift shop for .50 They didn't know what it was. I think they lost or didn't know what the embossing pads were, so I need to buy some of those. Any ideas?
I just found a set of the original pads for embossing on the Sizzix web site. I have cut some thinner pads like she did. I bought a thin sheet of plastic at a home improvement store and cut it with an xacto and metal ruler.
Thank you for showing this. I found mine at a second hand store and need to learn how to use it. What is the material of the shims and the size I should ask for at the Home Depot? I would like to collect the thinner diecuts and I'm not fully understanding and your help would be appreciated. X
Cynthia sorry for the late response but up to 4-1/2-Inch wide and up to 5x7 thickness 2inches plexiglass for each one and you can cut them yourself as well or you can pay extra at Home Depot I hope that helps
Good to know this machine cuts dies. Where did you get your shims? Also, you said you cut your own shims. How did you do that? Do you know if the platform that comes with the machine can be purchased as a replacement part? We recently moved and I have misplaced mine. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
The shims you could get them at Home Depot and they have to be about 1 mm not any thicker and I use a glass cutter you could you find that at Home Depot as well and you measure it with the black Shem to get the exact same size and yes there are replaceable you could order them off Amazon I hope that helps
