I'd be interested to see if it still works when the shelves are fully loaded with books. My reason for needing one isn't to HIDE a bed, it's to maximise book shelving space while still having the option of a bed. Many of these systems (every one I've seen, so far) it turns out they don't work if you fuill every shelf fuly with books as the hinges or other mechanism can't take that amou nt of weight.

huge gaps on the top and bottom. just use some frame/molding around the whole thing.

The concept is good but, as the gaps at the top of the center bookcases show, it is poorly constructed. There is significant sagging from the weight of the bookcases indicating an inadequate hinge system. This is an expensive bed (around $8k) and you would expect that it is well constructed for that price. It fails on construction as well as price for me!

I noticed that as well. It will probably continue to sag over time with the weight of whatever is stored on shelves.

How deep are the shelves?
