Hey, Ben. I´m 42 and had been off skateboarding for ten years. Just coming back nowadays. You´re a big inspiration. Thank you.

Fakie 50-50 front shuv was there! Hope you're doing good Ben. Skateboarding is the best anti-stress I know. I'm now on a snowboard trip in Lapland and it makes the same effect.

Thanks Laurent, you are absolutely right. I too am hoping to get out a bit next week for some snowboarding with my friend Matt. He talked me into getting a used snowboard set-up from some local seller, so I now have my own gear. Hope you have fun with your trip dude.

@@BenJaegerThomas it's important to have your own set-up like in skateboarding. Today's session was insane. More powder than needed, my legs still remember it... Tomorrow is the last day and I might try the snowpark...

Yo Ben. I noticed the slam you took at 1:48 it was pretty gnarly! Kudos to you for getting back up. Id like to recommend that when that happens again, tuck your lead shoulder down and try to do a roll out of it. Sort of like a diagonal- tumblesault. Although it may look silly practicing that on the flatground, Doing that will drastically reduce the impact taken on your body. Once you master the fall-roll, you might notice less anxiety about slamming Which might give you more confidence in your tricks. Just figured I’d share that. Great job man

    • @BenJaegerThomas
      @BenJaegerThomas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks man, yeah sometimes I am able to use my momentum to maneuver out of a bad fall and sometimes it just catches me with not enough wiggle room to avoid the slam. Appreciate the support and advice dude.

    Ben!!!!!
I still watch your videos, and after seeing this one I remembered I had another tip for you. And remember, I can get wordy!
OK, so as you know Skateboarding like most sports is a thinking mans game. So on that last segment with the ollie up, grind, shove out, it just wasn't going to happen for you today. Your close, but it just won't stick. So here is the strategy you use with anything like this that just won't happen:
    1) Split it into (in this case), two skills:
    a) do the ollie up, and just grind the whole thing right off the end.
    b) put the board up in the grind position, step on it, and then do the shove out.
    2) I have always adopted the, "3 in a row" phylosophy. That means you stay on (a) until you have landed it three times in a row. Then you do the same with (b), 3 times in a row.
    3) Now (here is the really neat secret with all sports moves), try and do the combo. (Oh boy, here comes the neat part), if you try it 10-20 times and it's not happening. Then either go back to step 2. After you complete your. "three in a rows", go back to this step and try it again for 10-20 times.
The reason why this method helps is that if you are trying the same trick over and over and over and it's not working. You are actually creating bad muscle memory. this means that if you miss that trick hundreds of times in a row, you have "learned" to do that trick to include the falls. That s a much longer road to success.
You will learn faster if after multiple failures on a single trick, just skate it off for a few minutes by doing tricks you have 100% dialed. This will reset your brain to a happy place where you are landing everything. Then you go back to what you were working on and if that fails, go back to what you know. A skate session like that is way more fun and will put you in a thinking space that is much more healthy to learn.
Your tenacity is the most incredible aspect of your skating. I am most impressed with your drive and desire and really enjoy seeing your improve. However that drive works in your brain, if you could turn that into a pill that people could take that makes them apply that work ethic you be a billionaire!
Absolutely amazing job, and you stick with it Ben!
P.S. When your little night time monsters come to shovel all that self doubt into you, (I think we all get them sometimes to some degree), what I do is focus on all the things that I have that I have forgotten to appreciate. Things like your eyesight, the fact you can walk and run, your hearing, your healthy, your likeable, you have great people skills, you have a great family, the list is huge!
For 7 years I rode a mountain bike year round as I wanted to try it while between having a car. With brutal Winters that can easily hit -40F for days (excluding windchill), people thought I was crazy (I guess I was!). But when people would ask me why I did it, I always said, "Because I can. I know anyone who is unable to walk due to a spinal cord injury would trade places with me in a second".
Your night monsters are getting to all of us during covid, so we all have to just be patient, and remember how good we are doing. This will pass, it's simply a change for now, and what really has us all upset is that a few things have changed for all of us and change is always a little upsetting.
We are all chasing our night monsters, so lets all team up and fight them together as warriors in an army, and not one solitary soldier.
OK Ben, I have lectured you enough! :-)
Great video, as usual, great score, and fun to watch! #1!!

Yeah dude, I hear you. It had been snowing here for a few weeks which is fairly abnormal for this area over the past couple of years. We had about 3 feet of snow fall in two weeks with some other lighter accumulation and then rain in the week after. It's begun to melt and recede so hopefully I can get out for a session tomorrow or Friday for the first time in 3 weeks. Appreciate the boost man.

Hey Ben, I first watched your channel 4 years ago when my son was born. Thanks to you I decided to pick up skating again (btw I suck at it, but it's so fun) when I went back to school to finish my degree. These videos are very inspirational as skateboarding broke the monotony of nursing school for me. I graduate in May. Thank you for posting awesome content. Keep shredding and continue to inspire others! Best wishes brother.
