The front element moving in and out during focusing has NO effect on using a polarizer. Also, AIS lenses have the minimum aperture numbers done in orange, ie your lens. The definitive way to tell is if there is a shallow scallop in the mount. That communicated with some Nikon cameras the focal length.
This lens is an AiS, NOT an Ai. And...at about 4:25, showing the lens extending as you focus - This DOES NOT affect your polarizer, as the front element does not rotate when focusing!!! So, it is NOT BAD for people who use a polarizer.
The AiS version of this lens has yellow numbers at f/16 on the aperture ring indicator nearest the body. The Ai version has white characters. This example has those yellow numbers which can be seen in the video. 1:30
@@rcpmac yes, that is a slight mistake I made; however, the lens uses the exact same optical formula and the exact lens coatings, so it's essentially the same lens
Good Review. I buy that Lens yesterday Brand new from the Shop. It was nearly 50% cheaper.
Well done review with great examples. Keep the videos coming!

You can totally use a Polarizing Filter. However, I find it really annoying having it move in and out like that.
The lens shown in this video is an AI-s lens.
Nice Ken! Thanks.
Love this lens for life

I have the 50mm 1.4 non AI which is a bummer I want an AI or AIS for my F3hp.
For what it's worth I don't think there's much of a optical difference between those two lenses.
@@kenslensdesigns I now have a mint F2 with the 50mm 1.4, 35mm and 28mm F2.8 lenses non ai :) I still shoot the F3 the as well nad prefer it actually
Great review. Thank you.
Not sure if you've tried out the 50mm f1.8 pancake lens. Not sure if I should get one of those or the f1.4
@@lea4777 I have not tried that lens
@@lea4777 but I do happen to have the canon FD 50 mm F1.8 that Lens pretty good it's not a pancake lens
Very good review
