There's a possibility the muscle hamster could have made it in, had he not dropped the dumbbell right at the end. Although I'm not sure how many places that actually cost him. The dude is an absolute stud, I was super bummed for him when he didn't make it. That said, there was and always is a lot of surprises each year in the sport. There's no guarantee to make it back as the events every year are totally different.
Dude I believe you are doing great! I truly believe you are the last strong building block.....if you left crossfit would be DONE! I love how you stand up for you and what you stand for!
Those comments don’t listen to what he’s saying. What I love about Dave is you don’t need to translate. His thoughts are clear and concise. TDC and Hiller can live in the same space and it’s ok.
Good on Dave for continuing to come back and doing the WIR. I personally think CrossFit is doing a good job of putting on these events. Workouts were well balanced and created a suspenseful ending for both the men and women. At least for the WCC. Good luck on Murph! Keep grinding.
Im not sure why people say you cant accept criticism. You take time out of your busy schedule to have one on one communication with the community by doing this week in review. In addition you actually read the negative comments and address them. Thanks for working to help CrossFit, the affiliates and the games go through difficult transitions and keep it growing. Congratulations to Greg and you on CrossFit Appreciation Day 3/6. So cool.
Thanks for all you do Dave. You did my L1 in .VA Beach back in 2007 along w Robb Wolf and Pat Sherwood and a host of others. Great weekend and I still reference all the notes I took during the white board lectures. Love just going back and reviewing the basics concepts. The methodology is amazing and now it’s tried and true. Keep doing you.
Thank you Dave I was at WCC and you're right it was a great atmosphere. Cool set up with a booth from CF HQ and coaching available for spectators. Hopefully you're able to bring it back to Carson next year!
Hi Dave! Great work on the continued WIR. They're always informative and helpful in continuing the conversation. Personally, I really appreciate how you read the troll comments and appear to just shrug and smile them away. That being said, providing a respectful response like you do to the Hiller videos is a good thing to do. However, as you've seen in some comments over the last few weeks responding with a different perspective appears (in today's society) to be someone that can't handle criticism or is being overly sensitive. Thanks for continuing the conversation and providing a different point of view to have a richer context. On a separate topic, what if to make the Open and Quarterfinals carry more weight into Semi's you made the Open a 50 point workout, and the Quarters a 100 point workout...in addition to the workouts for that stage. Obviously it doesn't have to be that many points each, just providing that as an example. Then CFHQ can continue that into the Games where it's some sort of weighted average (60% semis /30% quarters /10% open) based on finish placement for each stage at 100 points combined.
Loved to see the community come together for the missing affiliate owner. Enjoyed seeing solid for the most part, judging at then quarterfinals. Great stuff Dave
Really appreciate the WIR. Your style in taking on the negative comments is REAL. People are so used to the polished responses of biz-school educated executives (that are usually devoid of any real position and loaded with overly positive buzzwords) that they don’t know how to deal with a real human. On the subject of Semifinal attendance, I would just say that real fans of the sport are missing out if they don’t go. We attended the Pasadena event last year and it was a great celebration of CrossFit competition and community. Further, the tickets were easier to get and cheaper.
Dave- keep up the great work. It probably didn’t help N.A. West Semi was during Memorial weekend. I live in San Diego and the idea of driving up there etc..was a deterrent in attending. I understood the nostalgia for Carson, however depending on how you set up next season, it would be great to have the Semi in Del Mar.
I'm hailing from Santa Cruz...and to add to your response about the sparse attendance at the NA West Semis this weekend in Carson... 1) You mentioned that there used to be a "California Regional". Well, actually, there used to be a *Northern CA AND a Southern CA* Regional. 2) And I went to the last Northern one, in San Jose, and *tickets were ONE THIRD the cost* of those this weekend, and the event was selling out for Friday, and sold out in advance for the weekend.
Dave, has HQ considered bringing the Granite Games back as a semi final event? I may be slightly biased living in Minnesota, but as far as attendance in the West goes, The stands were significantly more packed in Eagan at TCO Performance Center than they were in Carson this year. They also provided one of the coolest experiences with their community competition as well, still one of my favorites a few years later. I know a lot of people miss this event.
Dave thanks for doing the WIR. With the horrible decisions being made by HQ ( and possibly you) about denying Hiller any access you are taking a lot of heat for it. Yet you continue to do the WIR sharing information and answering questions. A lesser man would of stopped doing these videos, good on you! Remember its never to late to fix a mistake.....
Thankful to have Dave at HQ. Are there plans to start doing more video content around athletes? Road to the games and following the lives of some of the top athletes was what originally drove me to Crossfit in 2015. Changed my life!
Dave, definitely appreciate you always taking the time to make these WIR videos. Do you feel there was an opportunity missed on CrossFit's part in respect to gym programming? As the brand tries to find ways to make profit, looking back could this had been handled differently? What I mean is a lot of the OG's and others selling programing to CrossFit gyms and seemingly without the brand getting a cut of the pie. When I was coaching from 2012 to 2022, the owners of the box used so many different programs over the years it was kind of crazy. Box Programming, Mayhem, Nor Cal CrossFit, Comptrain to name a few. I always wondered why they just never tried the actual CrossFit workout of the day.
CrossFit made and makes "a profit". That's why Greg didn't file Chapter 11, and even in shotgun crisis sale could sell it for a boatload of green, and why DC could like/d his cu$hy job so much. But now that there are stuffed shirts' bank accounts to pad and VCs to make quick Billionaires, the house of cards has to be quickly modeled to strip out the costs and show a not-franchise😉😉franchise model where franchisees, I mean affiliates, just send in exponentially growing amounts of cash, and fran-filiates explode until the last unborn child in Biafra is penciled in for $180/month until their natural death at 105...so the shirts can paint a dreamy picture, if only fleeting, (it will be), in the small minds of investors, of a market cap that shames even Planet Fatne$$'.
Dave - love what you and the team are doing this season so far. Well done. Small comment - I ordered semifinal apparel from Northern Spirit and have had a really negative experience with them. They partially shipped some items in my order, have provided no updates on the remaining items, and are ignoring my inquiries to their support account. Did you guys vet them before making them the official semifinal apparel partner? Thanks for everything you do.
Really enjoyed watching the Crossfit games. I began being interested in the sport because of Andrew Hiller. Don't understand the hubbub. My son is now active at the local Crossfit Affiliate.
I think the broadcast following the top athletes makes sense, you don't see the Olympics following the last place competitors. The coverage of Saturday and Sunday was very good.
The energy at the Oceania and Europe semifinals did seem way more 🔥 than NA West. CrossFit HQ should definitely take note. NA East I feel like will be better though….
Hey Dave , I’m currently serving overseas in the Middle East and every single gym in the country has de-affiliated. Owners sight comments that CrossFit made on the conflict going on in the region as the main reason for leaving. Is there any plan to attempt to bring the gyms back into the fold or are they a lost cause?
Hey Dave, quick question I was wondering why doesn’t CrossFit reseed the athletes after every event? I feel like it would prevent athletes from taking events off when they think they’re not going to do good. Hope that makes sense. Thanks
Hey Dave! Hope Murph went well for you this year. I really enjoyed it this year because I scaled for my age and current limitations (injuries). I do think the Community could really benefit from some guidance on Murph (and maybe the other big Benchmarks). Think of it this way, while you'd never do this, if you programmed Murph in The Open, you'd offer scaled options for age groups, adapted athletes, etc. Why not just offer that going into Memorial Day. I know the Affiliates can do this for their athletes, but some standards for Murph might help.
@matthewpearson1760 other than what Dave said in his next video, no. I applied during the games last year with no follow up. I am going to submit another app, and reach out to a few local seminar staff in my area. Good luck!
Maybe HQ should start marketing semifinals as the premier event for that region. Meaning you title the winners as the Fittest in X region rather than just the winner on the route to the games.
Dave… why doesn’t the Open, Quarter and Semi all count as an overall points system that carries with the athlete towards the Games, or bare minimum carries with them as a final score towards getting to the Games. By doing so, wouldn’t it make every athlete stop saying “the Open doesn’t matter” since now it would?
Since the forming of CF and when you came on board, what are a few things you wish the company had done differently? Can you tell us a few big lessons you and HQ have learned since your almost two decades there?
I don’t normally comment, but the criticism is out of control. It almost seems like some of these commenters are Hiller bots lol. I like Hiller’s content and what Dave/HQ is doing. Improvement at the level Crossfit operates is not a one day process.
@davecastro Dallin is first in event 3, dalin was given no rep for just touching before putting 2nd leg on ground, where as Roman jumped off the box at last with both legs together. That should be no rep. Why still Roman is 1st. I like Roman, but everyone has done huge hardwork being in top 10, so their justified performance should get the desired results. Request for corrections in the timings of both dallin and Roman in event 3, north America east CrossFit semifinals.
Dave, Don apparently communicated recently that CrossFit is for sale or being prepped for sale. While this should not surprise anyone who understands how private equity works, how is this good for the community? for affiliates? Do you honestly believe that if another investor buys it, they are not going to try to extract more profits from the brand and affiliates? Are you concerned about your legacy?
Since Greg invented the CrossFit methodology and wrote the kernel upon which the entire company and ecosystem is based, it’s my perspective that we are constantly being influenced by him. Greg left us an observable, measurable, and repeatable method to increase fitness. All we have to do is not fuck it up and make sure people understand the math and stay true to the core principles. All he ever wanted was for people to understand the truth and to do the right things for the right people for the right reasons. That’s a torch I’ll gladly run with.
Greg had very enlightened thoughts on the business side of CrossFit as well. And he grew the community and supported affiliates. The current owners running the company counter to everything Greg believed and if affiliate owners don’t step up and put a stop to it, CrossFit as we know it is doomed. If Dave and Nicole continue to run cover for the current owners, their legacy will be that they facilitated CrossFit’s demise regardless of all the positive contributions they have made.
@@PeterShaw4The CrossFit that existed under Greg is dying. Greg’s methodology and the concept of CrossFit will live on. The company is being drained by a parasite that is going to hand it off to the next parasite. The only question remaining is will affiliate owners and Dave sit back and watch it happen or will they do something about it.
What about it is dying? Be specific. In my neighbourhood I see CrossFit is more popular than ever. Hey Dave, I was wondering about the decision to include the echo bike twice in this year's semifinals programming. No other movement is repeated twice and in my opinion the machines have been overused in CrossFit in the last few years. I remember when one of the old school CrossFit mottos used to be "We are the Machines". Thanks in advance.
