I tried watching History and Discovery Channel documentaries about the Aztecs, but they were literally unwatchable with the overly dramatic music and jump cuts like it was a bad action movie with very little substance. Thank you for respecting your audience enough let the history speak for itself! What a fascinating story you tell here.
I agree completely. And I would add that I get tired of the British accents that sound very affected to my “American” ears. Please, let’s just have more American documentations presented with our comfortable American accents.
So many of those "documentary channels" do wonky things with volume. The speaker is super quiet, so I turn the volume up, then the ads every 3 minutes are unnervingly loud. Or the music is in the foreground and the speaker is in the background... As someone who listens to documentaries with earbuds while at work, I definitely appreciate the sound balance and the lack of ads mid-video. I also appreciate that the narration is thorough enough that it is perfect for listening to, but I also like that there's visual aids when he talks about art and stuff... This is definitely my go-to channel for learning history, especially since he often acknowledges that Eurocentric "historical facts" are more often than not quite problematic.

They're obtaining reliable sources which, believe it or not, is incredibly hard for a civilization that existed over 600 years ago. Especially when that civilization is using pictographs and phonetic logograms. Unless you have attended university and/or dedicated most of your life to the pursuit of knowledge in any specific history field, I HIGHLY doubt you know, or can even talk about history such as this channel does. I am, however, genuinely interested in what the narrator said that is not an accurate, or as near as we can get, representation of Aztec history.

I really appreciate how this documentary ACTUALLY spends time retracing the history of the Aztecs and doesn’t just skim through it and go directly to the arrival of the Spanish like every other one does, even though this a series about the fall of empires! Your work is very impressive! I really enjoyed it!
The way you spent 16 min going from dinosaurs to horses and their extinction, just so you could point out the irony that the Aztecs would meet their downfall by Europeans coming over on horses was BRILLIANT.

I've literally listened to this episode at least 10 times while sleeping, and the imagery so far (I'm 20 minutes in), is answering so many questions. What a brilliant production.
These documentaries are just amazing - the narration; the in-depth research; the drone footage of archaeological sites; the graphics; the photos, and the overall history just come together perfectly. Im addicted to Paul’s documentaries. I’ve never watched anything like these, with so much detail and references to the source of info. I love the way he brings the past into the present (starting with the discovery of a giant plaque in Mexico City, that once rested at the foot of an Aztec pyramid), and the descriptions of the land formations and comet are truly fascinating. To even hear words of Aztec poetry is incredible and touching. I’m on Roman Britain - The Work Of Giants Crumbled - now. The title is from an old English, Saxon poem as they marvelled at the ruins they found left behind by the Romans. Heading over to Patreon too. Thank you so much, Paul.
This is an absolutely brilliant production. The narrator’s voice is rhythmic and hypnotic and the writing is outstanding. The scientific, historical and archeological content covered is impressive! This should be required in history classes around the world. Thank you for this. I can’t imagine the amount of work this took; the research alone must’ve been immense-let alone the film production. I stayed up until 2:00 am last night to find out what happened to the Sumerians! I was captivated! I know what I’m binge watching this month!

What was revealed to you? Which part of this compilation of contradiction did you cotton to? Was it the part where these civilizations were so much more heavily populated and productive than Europe or the part where he drones on about how they never had the time to become as populated? Was it when he listed all the varied foods they had or the part where they didn't have time to properly develop the variety of food that the old world had?
I'm glad you set aside a whole episode detailing the history of Aztecs before the arrival of Europeans. Too often the only part of their history that is told is their conquest. They deserve to be seen on their own terms.

As a black American, ancient cultures and civilizations are so fascinating to me for obvious reasons. Learning about the advancements and highlights of the Aztecs, Maya, Inca, Olmecs, Toltecs, Tonga and other civilizations of the Americas makes me really happy because it shows how Eurocentric history has been for centuries that entire civilizations of brown and black ppl throughout Africa, Asia and the Americas were nearly forgotten. But now thanks to YT channels like this and others, we can all learn about history from all over the earth including Europe. All civilizations have contributed to the advancement of human civilization and way of life and all civilizations should be studied.

The intro to this video is awesome. I never knew they demolished entire blocks for archeology. It must have been amazing to see a section of a familiar city go back in time into another city.
The question I have to ask, though, is what happened to the people who lived and worked there before it was excavated. Did they get relocated or just yeeted onto the streets?
Paleontologist here. Great video, but I should probably clear some things up: 1) Velociraptors were only found in Mongolia, though other dromeosaurs (or “raptors”) did live in the region of southern Mexico. 2) Quetzalcoatlus’s limb proportions show it was well-adapted to terrestrial locomotion, indicating it probably spent a substantial amount of time on the ground. It may have even hunted on the ground similar to modern marabou storks. That being said, it was probably still perfectly capable of flying when it wanted to. 3) North and South America only joined together about 3 million years ago. For much of its history, South America was an island continent.
This is definitely one of the best Aztec civilization documentaries I’ve ever seen. Love the pacing. Clear content ,Context. Narration. Graphics and clean mix.. hate those others with overly dramatic loud music and effects. Thank you for not going that way!!

This type of production is what should be available on public tv. The usual 45 min format never satisfied me. And I think I speak for many if I say cut shows like Kardashian etc. for this.
Yes, public television did have a lot great historical shows. Now, sadly, not so much. I've just started a massive collection of historical DVDs. Problem solved!👍
This is how all public history content was, even in the early 90's. Everything began to change late 90's and 2000. By the 2010's high quality public content on TV was over, even on the history channel. But because these last generations were not a live during that era, they sadly have no idea how bad public educational content, mainstream media, and even mainstream music has become. It's like a world of depth, passion, possibility, and understanding has been washed over and buried with meaningless nonsense and pure survival. But this young man is proving that it's all still there......just like all the history he speaks on. Hopefully more youth will dig deep, past the crust of this nihilistic society, and find their souls are still intact and therefore also, the soul of the People, and the soul of Humanity's collective and individual journey. Love this young man so much. Been listening with awe for awhile now. 💙

As a geologist, and a lover of history, I really appreciate that you added the tectonic story in here, and got it right. That goes as well for previous episodes. Too often folks over look the geology or just get it wrong. Keep this up man, these are great.
After the war was over, the prisoners had not just the pain of having to destroyed the city where they lived, but also the pain of having to built the new city on top and watched how their history was erased.

It's a way to thank them for producing content which is more than watching a few movies at theater, which I may or may not like, and even if I like any I don't know how much it could permeate my mind & for how long. Whereas this video and others by FoC is the stuff that's just nitro for my brain :)

These documentaries are just amazing - the narration; the in-depth research; the drone footage of archaeological sites; the graphics; the photos, and the overall history just come together perfectly. Im addicted to Paul’s documentaries. I’ve never watched anything like these, with so much detail and references to the source of info. I love the way he brings the past into the present (starting with the discovery of a giant plaque in Mexico City, that once rested at the foot of an Aztec pyramid), and the descriptions of the land formations and comet are truly fascinating. To even hear words of Aztec poetry is incredible and touching. I’m on Roman Britain - The Work Of Giants Crumbled - now. The title is from an old English, Saxon poem as they marvelled at the ruins they found left behind by the Romans. Heading over to Patreon too. Thank you so much, Paul.

This is an absolutely brilliant production. The narrator’s voice is rhythmic and hypnotic and the writing is outstanding. The scientific, historical and archeological content covered is impressive! This should be required in history classes around the world. Thank you for this. I can’t imagine the amount of work this took; the research alone must’ve been immense-let alone the film production. I stayed up until 2:00 am last night to find out what happened to the Sumerians! I was captivated! I know what I’m binge watching this month!

What was revealed to you? Which part of this compilation of contradiction did you cotton to? Was it the part where these civilizations were so much more heavily populated and productive than Europe or the part where he drones on about how they never had the time to become as populated? Was it when he listed all the varied foods they had or the part where they didn't have time to properly develop the variety of food that the old world had?
I'm glad you set aside a whole episode detailing the history of Aztecs before the arrival of Europeans. Too often the only part of their history that is told is their conquest. They deserve to be seen on their own terms.
I mean, it is cool and all that our ancestors did get to be seen on their own terms, but we WERE sacrificing hundreds of people weekly.
Sure they were sacrificing tons of people weekly, but if you can think of a better way to keep the sun from burning out, I'd like to hear it.

Amazing! Grew up in Mexico City and have never encounter a more fair and scholarly tale of the ancient cultures of today's Mexico. Worthy of University level programs. Can't wait to see part 2, which I guess starts with the arrival of Europeans.

As a black American, ancient cultures and civilizations are so fascinating to me for obvious reasons. Learning about the advancements and highlights of the Aztecs, Maya, Inca, Olmecs, Toltecs, Tonga and other civilizations of the Americas makes me really happy because it shows how Eurocentric history has been for centuries that entire civilizations of brown and black ppl throughout Africa, Asia and the Americas were nearly forgotten. But now thanks to YT channels like this and others, we can all learn about history from all over the earth including Europe. All civilizations have contributed to the advancement of human civilization and way of life and all civilizations should be studied.

The intro to this video is awesome. I never knew they demolished entire blocks for archeology. It must have been amazing to see a section of a familiar city go back in time into another city.
The question I have to ask, though, is what happened to the people who lived and worked there before it was excavated. Did they get relocated or just yeeted onto the streets?

Paleontologist here. Great video, but I should probably clear some things up:
1) Velociraptors were only found in Mongolia, though other dromeosaurs (or “raptors”) did live in the region of southern Mexico.
2) Quetzalcoatlus’s limb proportions show it was well-adapted to terrestrial locomotion, indicating it probably spent a substantial amount of time on the ground. It may have even hunted on the ground similar to modern marabou storks. That being said, it was probably still perfectly capable of flying when it wanted to.
3) North and South America only joined together about 3 million years ago. For much of its history, South America was an island continent.
When you brought back the quetzalcoatlus at the end to tie in not only the dinosaurs, but the Aztec language, I was absolutely floored. Great content

This type of production is what should be available on public tv. The usual 45 min format never satisfied me. And I think I speak for many if I say cut shows like Kardashian etc. for this.
Yes, public television did have a lot great historical shows. Now, sadly, not so much. I've just started a massive collection of historical DVDs. Problem solved!👍

This is how all public history content was, even in the early 90's. Everything began to change late 90's and 2000. By the 2010's high quality public content on TV was over, even on the history channel. But because these last generations were not a live during that era, they sadly have no idea how bad public educational content, mainstream media, and even mainstream music has become. It's like a world of depth, passion, possibility, and understanding has been washed over and buried with meaningless nonsense and pure survival. But this young man is proving that it's all still there......just like all the history he speaks on. Hopefully more youth will dig deep, past the crust of this nihilistic society, and find their souls are still intact and therefore also, the soul of the People, and the soul of Humanity's collective and individual journey. Love this young man so much. Been listening with awe for awhile now. 💙

As a geologist, and a lover of history, I really appreciate that you added the tectonic story in here, and got it right. That goes as well for previous episodes. Too often folks over look the geology or just get it wrong. Keep this up man, these are great.

@@ahmicqui9396 its hard to say. Calakmul and Tikal were pretty powerful in their height. I feel like rather than empires, the Maya cities formed a similar structure to the Leagues of classical Greece. Dominated by their regional hegemon.
