Please do a follow up during the next year and longer. Will be interesting to see how this develops
Definitely will!
After watching your videos I went to Home Depot and picked up a dwarf spruce, not knowing you'd already made this video! Thank you for making bonsai so accessible for beginners.
Of course! I hope more people get into bonsai because it is a wonderful hobby! My goal is for bonsai to be a prevalent as any houseplant.
Thank you, I definitely will
Wow, how creative! And the raw material is so affordable. 🧠😘
I learned a lot new things of you. Thank you for share
Interesting to watch you create different styles with cheap material ideal to improve bonsai skills for, would be good to see them trees after a few months to see how they have filled out. Thanks for doing an interesting video.
Yes, I do progress updates on all my trees every few months, so you can expect to see this tree again in the future!
Shockingly drastic transformation! I do get it though and eventually will be great taper!😮😮😮
It is really appreciated everything you do to demonstrate and teach, specially for us that just started with this wonderful art ,it really is priceless.
Thank you very much.
Thank you so much 😀 I hope you have fun with your bonsai!
if there is one take away from your videos, is that you need to not be afraid to take drastic cuts
You got it!
Amazing transformation but was it safe to prune so much this time of the year?
Thanks, a lot of my viewers are worried about cutting back drastically. However, it works for me…never killed a tree because of that because the trees bounce back fast. It's all about what works for you!
Thank you. I saw a few videos from you. I went immediately to a garden center and bought two Chinese Junipers. Now I can start. Thank you. This is my new hobby now.
Wonderful! Have fun!
I did a Bonsai forest with some store bought Christmas tree's.
Sounds like it was a fun project!
Making it interestingly different…. Inspiring ( thank you. )
This is a wonderful video! I need to run to HD asap. The little Christmas tree is so cute and I'm sure my kids will love it! Thank you so much for sharing your vision!
Yes! A small Christmas tree bonsai will look very cute in your kids rooms!
Dr Chang, I was told by a nursery man that Alberta Spruce trees have a lot of Spider Mites. How soon is soon, can’t wait for you too open your store? Thank You…….
I will have trees to ship in the third quarter of 2024. No bonsai will be shipped until it is time ;-) They are currently growing healthily on my farm. I'll post a video soon on a giveaway where you can win some of my bonsai, so please stay tuned!
Yes, spider mite is common problem. A diluted shot of Malathione will do the trick. Not terribly toxic. Or if you want to go organic, use mineral oil or lady bugs.
Happy new year for get tree like design thank you for good advice Christmas ☃️
I'll try a similar fun project with a nursery tree. Let's see what happens! Thanks for the informative video!
Great! Please feel free to give us your updates. Would love to know how your project goes :)
I have two of these, and I am inspired to see how the story develops for my trees now! Thank you for showing these examples
Wonderful! Feel free to share your bonsai's story with the BH community if you wish!
I would love to purchase a tree from you ❤, i love watching your videos ❤ 🙏
Please stay tuned! Bonsai will be ready for sale in the middle of this year :) Sign up for email notifications at bonsaiheirloom.com so you can be the first to know about it!
i am based in zone 10a bay area.. but have never touched picea glauca even as garden trees . Because they are usually referred for zones 2-8 .. and we dont have enough “chill “ hours . Have you had success growing spruce in you pescadero garden which is similar zones (9-10 i guess ) ?
Your are right. Picea likes to have cold freezing winters. So, they are grown elsewhere and shipped in. I think keeping a spruce alive for a few years in a wam climate is probably ok.
This is one of your best videos!
Thank you for the compliment!
❤❤🎉😊
Amazing work my friend!
Thanks a lot!
👍👌🙂
Great ideas 🎉🎉🎉
Glad you like them!
I know this kind of drastic initial styling can work, but I prefer a more gradual approach because removing so much of the tree at once is a big metabolic shock to the tree and in my experience, has a much higher risk of killing the tree than reducing the tree in stages. I try to not remove more than about 30% of the tree at once.
Yes, your approach is correct too. Everything is a compromise. Cutting back drastically works for me because trees bounce back quickly. You can certainly cut back a bit at a time. It's all about finding what works best for you.
Thank you for sharing vidio bonsai🙏
Thanks for visiting!
Please do a follow up to this one Mr Milton. Awesome video yet again sir.
Yes, I definitely will in a few months to show you the progress.
wow 20 bucks home depot in california much higher same trees....
Where do you live?! bc in Memphis TN they are charging over 50$ for that exact size
I live in Northern California!
So I understand. You're saying that even in my Zone (Mountains of NC), it's OK to do everything at once? (Significant pruning, root removal, and repotting) At least as far as Alberta Spruce is concerned, for this time of year? Thanks for your very helpful videos!
This is a generalization - Cut back branches to compensate for root loss so there is enough water for keeping the leaves green.
Will this tree actually survive?
I regularly do updates on all my trees every few months, so you can expect to see this tree's progress in a video a few months from now!
@@bonsaiheirloom awesome I'm looking forward to it. I have a few of these in pots and I'm not sure what to do with them so this video will likely help me a lot.
Only one question: Did it live?
Yes! :)
That looks like the saddest Charlie Brown Christmas tree ever.
Haha fair comparison!
