      @@TheScrabbleKing not as far as i know because they do have active weapons. the drum spinner, the flail and scoop combo to name a few. when they push at the same time their drum spinner, if the have that on, will cause damage. the fact that Mentorn was just annoyed with rambots, which are essentially "full body hammers" not to mention the fact they tried to rig every fight Storm 2 was in ESPECIALLY during their fight against Tornado in the Grand Final shows how bullshit and unfair they are. i mean Tornado started off as a rambot before they added their interchangable weaponry. also they used a ruddy big spike in their fight against Anarchy which essentially made Tornado a rambot again with no "active" weapon.
      Idk if i went off topic there so i apologise if i have but i hope you get what i'm trying to say.

    • @cr10001
      @cr10001 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@PokeGuy6 Absolutely agree with that. And (IMO) Tornado's 'active weapons' were just there to satisfy some requirement of the rules, their effect was trivial compared with the effect of being rammed by Tornado (or Storm 2, obviously) at full speed. Were Panic Attack's forks 'active weapons'? Was Behemoth's scoop an 'active weapon'? They moved, but they didn't - in themselves - cause damage. What about Stinger's tail - that had no moving parts, so how did that differ in principle from being rammed by Storm? I think the 'active weapon' rule was nonsense.

Not sure if Aftershock ever managed it. Matilda did it to Ceros in an earlier heat in this series, though I refuse to credit house robots.

    It's the second half of the S7 heats, I can't be arsed to do a full review and most people said it wasn't good when I was doing it so fuck it, lets' mix it up and just review each robot individually rather than the fights.
    Storm 2: A+
    Literally nothing bad to say about Ed Hoppitt's machine. It's excellently engineered, brilliantly driven and brilliantly stylish in a way that Tornado just isn't at this stage. A fully deserving winner.
    Steel Avenger: B+
    It's easy to mock SA, and people on youtube often do for the poor front design it has, but looking at the list of robots that beat it, they are all exceptional machines. John Willoughby is teased by Craig for not updating his machine, but he's been fine tuning SA1 and it shows with his driving skill, the way the axe can do a lot more damage, and the fact that he never, ever gives up. Ed said that it's an out of date robot and should break, but I doubt it would have. SA isn't a robot that falls apart easily, and fights to the bitter end even if it's outclassed.
    Trax: B+
    Shane Swann's second machine after the very 'meh' Hell's Teeth, and a good one at that. In a weaker heat this was definitely heat final material, but against Storm 2 there's very little answer for the tracks with little grip and too high ground clearance. Here's hoping Push to Exit does better in the next series.
    Rhino: C
    Luck more than anything got it through the first round, and the armour is not tough enough to stand up to Steel Avenger's axe. The flipper isn't bad, but it's narrow - it's all very well claiming to make a robot based off an animal, but you're in the same series as Ceros, which was a lot more impressively driven and engineered, so of course you're not going to get as high a mark as them. I honestly preferred Reactor 2 - it wasn't a Box on Wheels at all!
    Supernova: C+
    The robot the Americans love, and I'm somewhat indifferent about. It had the power to rip off Mayhem's wheels but I suspect Storm 2 could have done that, as could Shredder, so it's not really as impressive as it might be. Hit by the same issue it's had times before, with too small wheels to keep it driving, though that attack on Killalot from Storm 2 caused the most expensive repair to a house robot ever. As people have mentioned, it'll get a proper showdown with Storm 2 in the World Championships.
    Mayhem: D
    This is strangely close to a design that Supernova would adopt for Series 9, but this thing barely has time to blink before it's hit and knocked out. Very little to say, honestly.
    Shredder Evolution: B+
    A high rank for a machine that went down early, but it really could have gone either way. Arguably Steel Avenger should have gone out at this stage because of the damage and aggression SE caused - it would have made just as good a fight against Rhino and just as poorly against Storm 2. But as I said, John Willoughby never puts on a bad show.
    Subversion 1.1: D-
    This is clearly a joke entry at this stage, which considering how much they needed to stretch to get entries in for this series, you can more or less understand. They went in with a good attitude, but what on earth were they armoured with to let Shredder do such damage.

      Trax was the front runner of the battle for sure, but what I think the controversy is that Shredder Evolution dealt a lot of damage to Sub-Version 1.1, yet Steel Avenger was only able to control Shredder Evolution, despite delivering about 1% of damage to it, and Steel Avenger was also being outcontrolled by Trax. That's how close the battle was.

    Let the Wars begin? More like let the rigging begin.
    As officially stated by Mentorn, they saw a "Box on Wheels" boring and would rather have destructive spinners or flippers that toss bots around.
    No idea if they were just having their own ideals or really needing views, although I'd say it's probably more the former which makes this even more stupid(see the Trashtalking False Drama started in Extreme)
    Because a Rammer totally can't be loved for just slamming around bots and showing good driving, no it needs to be DESTRUCTION...
    Further on, so many bots were just lacking in quality, half of those "spinners" didn't even work or couldn't inflict any damage, yeah great thing... yet you screwed out veterans like Stinger and whatnot by those rules.
    But hey, being an ass about this wasn't the only thing, actively rigging matches had to be done and this, plus something else, just lead to the downfall of this series...
    Years later, and we still have similar nonsense going on with Battlebots Season 2's new rules(which came up due to a different bot than the one they wanted to win), but hey, people actually support those and so do some roboteers that get advantage out of it...
    Plus with how Society is nowdays, people are "braindead" enough to just want destruction...
    But that wasn't the only thing that returned, bad and inconsistent sending times? Battlebots Season 2 and RW Series 10 say hello, in both cases it lead to the series not getting as many views and being cancelled as such, oh, I don't know, broadcasting inconsistently or at worse times totally doesn't fuck up stuff, now does it?
    Here's hope that one day we have a neutral Robot Combat show where the focus is the fights, Robots and Roboteers themselves.

    • @therebel4332
      @therebel4332 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spinners ultimately ruined Robot Wars. All you needed was a financial backer and you could build a ridiculous fly wheel spinning little body bot that just tears up everything thats it job done. For me the revival (series 8 onwards) was absolutely awful,, once they realised idiots wanted to see spinners on wheels it was game over. Series 2-6 was its peak competition. Series 6 was utterly ruined by them allowing Tornado to do what they did in the grand final though.

    • @r543Blitzsonic
      @r543Blitzsonic ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@therebel4332 I wouldn't necessarily say so, as a wedge out of a strong material (usually Hardox) withstands a spinning weapon well, deflecting it's energy which in turn also causes the spinner to take damage.
      If you've seen robot combat from the last 5-8 years, you should know that that's basically common practice at this point.
      Regarding Tornado, you seem to be another person that's unaware about several things, as the frame was not only within the rules but also used in the US Robot Wars competition previously against Razer (hence why they made the hook attachment this time) so everyone was well aware of this, with it not being a last second addition.
      Regarding them being "unpittable", once all four of their wheels would've been over the pit, they should be considered immobile, and as such end the battle, and if that doesn't count, the 30 second immobility rule would kick in.
      Razer almost fully had them over the pit and just needed to let go of them, so they had almost won the fight if that makes it any better to you.
