- / synth4ever - Synth demo of the Korg Prologue 8-voice analog synthesizer, filmed at Moog Audio (www.moogaudio.com) in Montreal, Quebec Canada.

The Korg Prologue comes in both 8-voice and 16-voice models and features 2 VCOs (saw, triangle, square) + digital multi engine oscillator (noise/VPM/User wave). It has a lowpass VCF, 2 envelopes, osc sync, ring modulation, cross modulation, 1 LFO, mixer, mod & delay/reverb effects, arpeggiator, and 61 velocity-sensitive keys.
The Korg Prologue is a flagship polyphonic analog synth from Korg in the "logue" lineup, including Korg Minilogue, Korg Monologue, and Korg Minilogue XD. The Korg Prologue is well suited to ambient pads, soundscapes, arpeggiator jams and textures. The digital Multi engine + 2 analog VCOs allow for hybrid sound design and the ability to layer, crossfade and split two timbres enables complex tones to be created.
In this Korg Prologue sound demo I go through some pads, a lead and ambient arpeggiator patches/presets to showcase the Korg Prologue's softer side.

I had to sell off some of my synths due to covid shutdown. I kept one. My prologue 16. It’s just so sweet. One of the best sounding analogs I’ve owned. Having fewer options increases workflow. 3 LFO looks goood but I don’t hear too many ultra modulated synths in hit songs. it’s the quality of the basic tone that we reach for. I love my prologue. After touch? Who cares
Sometimes simplicity and tone is all you need.
This is the best synth I’ve ever heard in my entire life
Korg Prologue does have unique tone!
The Prologue is a great hybrid synth. It's analogue and it's digital. The effects are incredible. Yes it is missing after-touch and a sequencer, but it still has so much to offer. I love mine, it's a go to all of the time.
Yes, it is a nice analog/digital hybrid poly with its own modern character. Despite only 1 LFO, there is still much one can do with this synth. I really liked the wavetables in the Multi-Engine. I suspect there are more features that could be added with future updates as well.
@@synth4ever I recommend the Prologue to anyone who is looking for an analogue poly synth. The open source multi-engine is really where it's vast potential is great. Personally I already have 3 custom multi-engines that I've bought and I'm getting another 3 very soon. I lose a day every time I buy one as I will go through it's sounds and capabilities and make patches all day. The 1 LFO isn't really a problem as most of the other VCO synths with less voices but are more expensive all seem to have just one LFO so I'm cool with that. I would have liked after-touch on the Prologue but it's not really a biggie. No sequencer means I've improved my keys playing skills. That's a positive with synths like this. For someone like you who plays keys it's ideal.
@@RoomAtTheTopStudio The open source engine and effects are definitely cool features. I agree a sequencer would be nice, and there are 8 buttons on the front panel which could probably be enabled in an update... but who knows. One LFO is a bit limiting but there is still much that can be accomplished.
I also recorded an arpeggiator jam I did on the Prologue which I will post in the future which I think showcases its hybrid capabilities/LFO/envelopes nicely... so stay tuned.
@@synth4ever the one LFO thing is the norm really with most VCO poly synths (Prophet-6, OB-6) so it's not really bothered me. I suppose if I was used to using multiple LFO signals then it would be. I think that there is a digital LFO that can be purchased to add to the one already in the Prologue but I'm not 100% certain. I swear I read about it somewhere though.
I must say the way you play the synth in a soundtrack style in this video is excellent. I can imagine these sonics as the backdrop to movie scenes. They sound superb
Luke Kage hey i got the monologue and the mini, love the korg styles with these so i have a few questions for you guys cause im planning to buy the pro.
Is there a random lfo shape in it? .
And if not is there a way to mess with its so the modulation to the cutoff will sound random?.
And the second question is if there is an easy way to sequence it through something?.
I will buy the synth anyway because i love the korg sound and these synths are so easy to program and it makes them feel alive . Programming a patch can take hours of exploration and it is fun just like playing a video game.
Seriously great sounds on the last run. You just convinced me to get a Prologue!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the demo.
I had the chance to but this wonderful synth, once, and didn't. It was an ex display model, on sale for around a thousand pounds. I didn't realise then that the synth was being discontinued. I look back with some regret. An amazing sounding instrument.
They are still avail on 2nd hand market for good prices!
@@synth4ever yes, thank you, they are. Unfortunately I spent my budget, so it's not something for now. I wish Korg would bring another version of the synth back. I know they had issues with the processors. It seems a shame that such a great synth is no more.
As always, no matter which synth is in your hands,
it sounds beautiful! thanks for great demoing!
Thank you for taking a moment to watch and the kind words! I appreciate your encouragement and support. :)
@@synth4ever I am not often on YT, but when, I am mostly visiting the same channels. And it is great, that they mostly still make the same cool things, I expected from them - only the synths changed ;-)
@@VolcaRock :)
Great demo, synth4ever! When it comes to ambient music, you're one of my favorite musicians. I got a Prologue 16 last month. It's such an awesome synth. I love it. It's got tons of character & a unique sound. I've been working on a Prologue demo. My biggest problem is trying to keep it under 10 minutes long because there are so many awesome patches on the Prologue. 😁 Anyway, again......awesome demo! 👌👍
Thanks so much! Glad you are enjoying your Prologue 16, look forward to your demo! :)
@@synth4ever BTW, I just ordered a Moog One & it should arrive on Saturday. 😀 I'm so excited! 🎹
@@gjc82071 Wow, congrats on the Moog One! That's amazing... you are truly a blessed man. :)
Big Synth and sounds, great demo :-)
Thank you my friend :)
Well that’s really sold that synth to me 🤦🏻♂️😂
Amazin' sounds there. In that first part ya sounded a lot like Tony Banks. It was very reminiscent to the tune Los Endos off the Genesis album Trick Of The Tail
Thanks man! Glad you liked it.
Great demo! Love the Prologue. I've got a Prologue 8 and use it a lot. It's also really easy to program.
Thanks. Prologue has a nice modern tone but is also easy to tweak. Very fun!
Personally never liked the sound of this synth, but i think you do a fair demonstration of this synth non the less. Just bought a An1x, i love it and i appreciate your demo of it! :)
Thanks. It is a modern hybrid and has its own sound... some like more than others, as with any instrument. Nothing wrong with that.
That's cool you got an AN1x... vintage VA! :)
Weird question but can this synth pull of 90s VA type sound? Especially with the digital engine
I'd say the digital engine sounds more modern. While it could do some VA sounds, it's forte is more wavetable-like tones. If you want 90s VA, just grab a Novation Supernova, Access Virus A or B or Yamaha AN1x.
no..hold.. function ?
A buddy of mine has the Prologue 16 with that extra bass compressor feature and it sounds great. Not that the 8 doesn't sound great, just that extra bass presence is so grounding. Nice that they took some of the voice variations from the Mini/Monologue series. There is a great video of it from Anderton's in England that goes deep deep deep into all the features:
th-cam.com/video/KlaGeJs4LSs/w-d-xo.html
Right out of the gate in their video it's so thick. Yes it is missing aftertouch but expression pedals can do the trick. I know I'll be borrowing it from time to time :-).
Thank you Korg for giving us a poly analog synth that won't kill my bank account. Sequential and Moog sound amazing, but I can at least afford a Korg, LOL.
Thanks for the insights! The compressor on the 16-voice definitely adds some more "beef" and weight to the sound. It's a fun synth no matter what.
Some youtubers can make wonderful synths sounds and looks worse than a casiotone
