13:42 The special effects you're admiring were created in the late 90s during the re-release of Star Wars to get the fans ready for Episode 1. Unfortunately, Lukas has made changes to some things that didn't work like Han and Greedo shooting the same time when it was supposed to be just Han shooting Greedo at the Cantina. Also Jabba the Hut never visited him as they were going to the Falcon. That was inserted into the re-release too. One more thing I'd like to add. The lame fight at the end between Darth and Obi-Wan was remade by a fan (FXitinPost) that's titled 'star wars sc 38 reimagined' you should check out. It's really well made.
Yes I have been watching Star Wars since the 70's and I think you nailed it. They are "believable characters", even though they are in a fantastic world.
Fun fact: The Chewbacca costume that the late, great Peter Mayhew wore was not supposed to get wet in the garbage compactor scene. But it did, and considering the fact that the original suit was made of yak hair, It produced a pretty funky odor.
This film was the start of a new hope in films for sure. This was huge for us back then, we had never seen anything like it, life changing really. Opening night was a trip, theater packed full. I definitely became a forever syfy/fantasy fan. Before HD and CGI. Altho this redo has some cgi added sadly, the special effects were amazing and pushed special effects as we see it today. A lot of this is original except parts like the Jaba footage and the bar scenes. Even tho we had no cgi, cable tv, internet, streaming, Itunes, spotify, or cell phones. We had the movie theaters, drive-ins, phone booths and concerts, and it was great. Thanx so much, take care, Peace
It is always good to se the younger generation sample Star Wars. It has been a part of my life since I was 10yo in 1977. I will give you one very small spoiler, because you seem to be distracted by Obi Wan's voice coming in clutch. Obi died in the battle with Vader, but if you remember Obi Wan said "If you strike me down, I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine." Being a Jedi Master Obi Wan has discovered how to become one with the force in death, but be sentient as well. He is speaking to Luke through the Force.
@Randomly Young man I envy you :) 8 more films a few hundred hours of cartoons and series (live action) to enjoy. I hope you continue down this path and see it all for yourself :)
"John Williams was cheating on Steven Spielberg?" 😂 George and Steven were actually good friends. You'll find a lot of parallels and easter eggs from each other's movies in the other person's films.
While still great, this is the 1997v, with plenty of CGI, which didn't exist in the theatrical release. the entire scene with Jabba walking with Han didn't exist (Lucas shot the scene knowing the tech would catch up). I saw the original in '77 in the Swansea Mall, MA, when I was 8. It was mind blowing, even life changing. In the original, in the saloon scene, the bounty hunter didn't shoot at all. Han shot offensively. Think about it: would a seasoned bounty hunter miss at that distance? I think political correctness, which was only about 5 years old, hypnotized producers into thinking that Han needed to be softer. I don't know why. He was an outlaw. Why was offing stormtroopers ok but not a bounty hunter aiming a gum at him? Have you watched 2001 A Space Odyssey? It's the first modern sci-fi movie, from 1968, and the effects were unheard of. It's a much different story, but it is set in space. Kubrick masterpiece.
Luke skywalker is my inspiration ✌🏽🕎 I study the force in real life it’s real 🌗🌌🌎 you mess with Luke skywalker you mess with me Luke is the best Jedi 😂

I hope you continue with Star Wars soon. Episodes 5, 6, 1-3 and Rogue One are worth the watch. Ep 7-9 is up to you.
Be sure to turn on the subtitle track for some of the alien dialogue.

Yup, in the age of common CGI, don't think younger people now understand how different, fresh, and even revolutionary this was...
Now imagine the joy you would’ve brought to your father who was trying to share experiences with you, but you was fronting. SMH
