@Mo Williams Damien Craig was the original quarterback's coach (if I'm correct) at Florida State under Jimbo Fisher. He left there and went to Auburn, in 2013 I believe, to coach. During the National Championship Game in January 2014, Craig was able to give Auburn's defense some tactical advantages by studying Jimbo's play calling to Jameis. Jameis recognized this and informed Jimbo so that they can make adjustments.

Deion has gotten Jackson State more pub in 48 hours then they have had the last 48 months. If kids cared more about legacy and less about locker rooms and gear they would choose HBCU’s. Uphill climb but I wish Deion the best.
Its not an uphill climb. If top black talent play, work, and invest in HBCUs, we can stop the resource drain that started during integration and keep our own talent and build our own programs. Its nothing hard about that. Its actually quite simple.
@@CM-yb2tl lets make sure our HBCU programs are good enough for athletes to want to play there without just signing for a pro black movement but for a real legit basketball or football program
I said the same thing when i heard the news. The best ending to the SHC was 2017 was TSU iced JSU kicker to win. TSU usually wins the games but JSU usually wins halftime.
Hopefully the top young black athletes will start going to HBCU's again. A lot of the greats went there and worked out for them. (Rice, Sharpe, Payton) Bring that money back to the community you come from. PWI's have exploited black athletes long enough. Good luck to Prime I hope he does well.
I watch HBCU football...all I see are black players. So what do you mean if black athletes start going to HBCU? Also, wouldn’t HBCU be exploiting those same athletes? Do the athletes get paid at HBCUs?
@@TheJosiahrosette He means to keep our (black) talent in house instead of having to go to a school in which alot of the foundations were built on slave masters and racism. Especially during times like these. We weren't allowed to even attend PWIs so thats wat HBCUS were for. Nowadays everyone has to go to Alabama, Clemson UT, Ohio St etc. in order to get top of the line facilities, uniforms and exposure, slowly delegating HBCUs to pik the scraps when it comes to funding, alumni support, media contracts, recruiting etc. HBCUs are predominately black although is more diverse than ever. Prime is trying to bring the pride and tradition back home. I myself am a former HBCU and PWI player. There are ALOT of misconceptions as it pertains to HBCUs. At the very least we are just glorified FCS schools.
Predator Productionz i do not think it is fair to put the onus on the players to play for a HBCU. My questions is do HBCU want the top players? I think JSU going after Prime is a great first step. However, the question is will the alumni, boosters, and fans do their part to attract the best talent. You can’t get mad at a players going to a school with top notch facilities and a current proven pipeline to the NFL. I went to a football school (USC), their experience is different than mine. I think the best thing Prime can do is focus on out recruiting USM, UAB, or La Tech. Dominate the SWAC, beat some group of five teams and mid-tier power five teams. Allows players to see that you can develop talent, win and folks are getting drafted. Then he can attract five star talent consistently. If I had a son that was five-star with NFL aspirations, I would want him to be at school that will develop him, allow him to practice against other top talent, and compete at the highest level. Top notch medical and support staff. Help him with nutrition and social media. I would want him to be coached by a coach who has proven he can put players in the league. Kids at that level are not going to school for the marching bands, the traditions, or academics.
@@TheJosiahrosette obviously they want the best players why wouldn't they? They can't come up with facilities and things like these top sports schools can. The players choose those schools because they believe they give them the best opportunities to be able to play at the next level because of everything put into those programs
This is MY HBCU!!! Proud to be a graduate of THEE JSU!! What a time to be a Tiger! I've had sooo many conversations over the years that HBCUs deserve just as much recognition as these other colleges/universities! The talent been there! Proud of Thee!! THEE I LOVE!

Ill tell you one thing, if i was a top DB in high school I’m definitely putting JSU on my list of places to visit. To be able to work with the best DB in the game? Man i wonder who is going to be on his staff

Great hire for Jackson State football and I can't wait to support Deion "Coach Prime" and this program and university. I'm from the West Coast in Washington State and this story caught my attention as a sports fanatic. I really want to see HBCUs come up in athletics for men and women. Good luck to Deion and Jackson State University. I'll be cheering from the West Coast and plan to attend a JSU football game to have my first HBCU experience in my lifetime as a 38 year old man. And I'm not worried about the coaching staff he will hire or recruiting. I'm sure Deion's staff will match some Power 5 schools and the school is gonna find a way to make sure the recruiting budget is on point. I attended PWIs for undergrad and grad school and I wanna donate to JSU's athletic department to support Deion and JSU's football program haha. I'll be getting some gear from JSU's athletic website fa sho. Hope the university, alumni, fans, students, city of Jackson, friends, families, etc. get behind JSU football and what Deion and staff is finna do. Ready for the 2021 season to get underway. Deion hasn't even coached a game and his hire has already brought A LOT of positive attention to JSU and the city of Jackson, MS. Go Tigers!!!
As a proud graduate of Grambling State University, I'm extremely proud of this hire, as it is my hope that more former, professional Black athletes will lend their experience, support and knowledge to enhance the sports programs at HBCU's. Also, I hope this sparks a movement to break the Slave system called college football, where Alabama, Clemson, LSU exploit black athletes for profit, fail to properly educate and graduate them, and toss them aside when their done with them. Any replies to my statement, bring the noise!!
You are correct. My concern(s) are the dollars these boosters are going to continue to throw at athlete & parents. They are also good for setting parents & athletes up with jobs, albeit temporary. It will be those type of hurdles HBCU's will have to content with. However, I see a few 5 stars making the move, but if the 3-4 stars will commit and get coached up, there is a HUGE opportunity. I hope the parents & athlete see the true value in what Deion is doing. Lastly, those top athletes that originally get recruited by the major programs and then pushed aside when they get the next years recruit, well now they have a place to go. I hope & pray 5 more former athletes make the similar move to HBCU's. That is only if, they have the same Passion Prime is coming with.
Deion did this for the bigger picture. Force change. Parents will send their kids to play for Deion. He will have ex NFL coaches and players on his staff. The time is now to make a change in college sports not just football.
@@StillLearnin4332 When was the last time you asked these states who pay these Division 1 coaches so much they are the highest paid state employee? He's a head coach is he not supposed to cosch for free? He can't make a salary? You are the same people who complain a player makes too much but the fact is its not your money so why do you care?
Honestly that's any coach though. You even have coaches that go to big schools and well regarded programs that and they have all the resources available. Coaching in general is hard especially HBCUs there was really no reason for Bomani to question Sanders' motives especially when black people are trying gain ground.
@@cprealone who thinks dieon will be there 20 years? The fact he went to an HBCU and shining light on these programs is more important. JSU got more shine in the last week than it probably ever has. Meaning more money and resources are likely to be incoming. Think about it like this the players make the programs and leave before they graduate and the schools became powerhouses based on that. Coaches leave bigger programs all the time after building them up. I think the problem sanders had with the comments is it literally could be said for any coach at any program that has an NFL pedigree
Charles Johnson fans already in the seats JSU has a fan base already. Give him time to do anything bc it’s been a lot of hires for college coaches and I don’t hear that when they get hired l. It’s bc it’s sanders is the only reason he mentioned it. I’m not saying don’t critic him but understand the same thing can be said for any coach hired
Bomani absolutely comes off as hating because he is assuming Deion's intentions without knowing where Deion is in his life and the reasons behind the move. He could have just said he hopes it works out for all parties involved and kept it moving.
If black athletes want real change, don't kneel protest, start going back to HBCU and giving back to them after you leave. Trust me if 30% of the elite players in the southern region start going back to HBCU the balance of power is going to be squarely on the players
I just ordered some MERCH because of the announcement....PROUD OF YOU DEION SANDERS....Following your calling, passion, reaching back and most of all....practicing what you preach while demonstrating AGAPE LOVE IN ACTION....I SALUTE YOU! Sam Alix, Veteran, Texas
I see where your coming from. However, why even bring up the fact that Deion could "possibly" be doing this for himself in the 1st place? At the least this is a slight jab ma brotha.
@@mrjace3 If it was a jab, he would have just said the part about making it about deion. But he didn't. He looked at it from both ends like he always does. Not a jab in the slightest.
That boy from the boot - I agree it was an opinion. Are we so far gone that people can't state their opinions? How come that Stephen A and Max are allowed to state their sometimes over the board opinion?
I think he did address the point he said why would he be doing this if it was about himself. Which is true. He could make more money and get more shine if he woulda stayed on tv. The whole “making it about himself” thing is a tired narrative from his playing days. The man is older and wiser now and I think it’s clear he wouldn’t have taken this job if it wasn’t about helping hbcus
@@stankyjawz9501 We are very good at going against each other without any white help. Bomani said what he said because he knows for a fact, that Deion tried for other jobs first.

I with ya all the way Big bro my prayers go out to you in doing your best.. Which i know you will.. Thanks Deion for doing what many brothers should have done a long time ago..
This is great for Jackson State landing Deion Sanders as head football coach. He is following in the lines of other NFL great players who coached at HBCUs such as Doug Willams (Grambling), Larry Little (North Carolina Central), Ken Riley (Florida A&M), Harold Jackson (Jackson State). I wish him the best and I know he will do good at JSU because he is such an inspiration to young kids.
Bomani didn’t diss him he simply said “if Deion is in it for his self he will fail” he’s right remember Brian billick one of the most ego driven head coaches where is he now.
He did! But I’d say it was from a place suspicion not directly gating.. But he was still wrong…. And his recent doubling down is strictly because Bomani doesn’t like to be wrong! Because it’s clear that Deion wasn’t all about Deion! Or else based on Bomani’s statement the whole thing would’ve failed! As we can see it did not!
This bring tears to my eyes to see a well known athlete such as Deion step to the forefront and try to bring a Black college's athletics to a level playing field as White colleges and conferences. My prayers are with JSC and all other Black colleges who has to compete in such a racist unequal environment that this society has created. God bless!!!
I am a Alconite and I am rooting for this man to be successful, because I really think that it will truly help the SWAC as a whole financially and shine more light on the athletes. He will have to work some magic to dethrone the class of SWAC football the Mighty Braves. Can you feel me. Real Talk.
Thomas Santiago pay college kids do you even know what you just said Deion staff is already made his staff has 84 years of experience and every person on the staff played in the nfl and coached in the nfl and one kid who is a 4 star has just singed with JSU get your stuff right
@Thomas Santiago the only reason they got that type of money is off the back of Black athletes. If all the top guy start going back to HBCU's the money will follow.
No he wasn't. Deion did what he said and now toprovokr change at another level. What makes you think he is not setting up a revolution where he is going to be at Colorado just to be another tool for another set of black athletes for HBCUs? Just a thought...

C'mon Deion....interpreting Bomani Jones' comments as "hate" is beneath you. He made a credible point and was actually offering good advice; you coach based on what all you think you can do to boost the young men under your tutelage. The moment you forget that, you fail as a coach
Exactly, Deion is being overly sensitive here. Bo was just offering advice to focus on the young men. I hope I'm wrong, but Deion responding in the way he did makes me wary that this move is about him & not the athletes or JSU/HBCUs.
@@eastgate6134 well he is one of the most flamboyant athletes. Ever. And Deion has critiqued athletes and coaches while he was in the media, so he has to know it will come with the territory
For those of you goin in on Bomani have yall seen the FULL segment he was speaking on?Also, have yall REALLY been paying attention to Prime's get down?!! If not,I suggest you watch the whole segment, and do your research on Deion before you go condemning Bomani. Oh,and congratulations on the hire Prime.
FACTS. Folks hear the name and just remember the player days. That's the same nonsense when talk about Jordan as an owner comes up. I roll my eyes now when Jordan makes a "statement". I remember, "Republicans buy sneakers, too" and I'm not buying the 'I was joking back then'. Bo said what he said. 💯
I understand where Bomani is coming from. Deion has to know the ramifications are of this hire has a ripple effect, good and bad The collective fiscal and institutional state of HBCU's is critical right now. Jackson State doesn't have the resources of a Morehouse or Howard. Deion cannot bring his alter ego to the forefront in regards to coaching young players. His first five years will be very interesting, especially during the growing pains of building a program. Only time will tell how this experiment unfolds.
Watch the clip again Sean. Bomani is an HBCU alum that is concerned if Deion's heart is in the right place. All he said was IF Deion is here for these kids, then it will be a success. Stop equivocating valid concern for hating
Those others schools are not nervous in the least. Jackson St can't compete with recruiting big-time talent. You forgot about the money under the table. Money talks, always did, always will. Deion knows that as much as anyone.
I've been of fan of Deion since he was at FS and I just became a bigger fan. For a man of his stature to go to a HBCU school and coach, that means just as much as the top basketball recruit to go to Howard. Salute
Once you stop thinking about the Why he left you realize he did all this for his son. He wanted to coach his son while putting him around the best trainers , and building his confidence to let him know he can be a NFL QB. This isn't about black players or Deion Sanders. This is for his son.
There you all go speaking FOR him again. If that was the case, why didn't he say that? In every interview from 2 years ago, he never said that. So that is just an excuse to not hold him accountable for his words.
@Dwayne Starling no excuses he literally lied to us all lol.. he also could've took a better job but you think any better teams would allow him to move his son as QB1?
I had to rewatch the press conference at JSU when Prime first took the job at JSU. I implore all of to watch that press conference. After seeing all of the backlash that Coach Prime is receiving from the black community. Based on the promises he made and the expectations he set in the press conference, he achieved everything he stated and more. The backlash for Coach Prime leaving should be directed to the school officials, campus security, the mayor, other HBCU officials/coaches and the governor of Mississippi because they allowed the “Bull Junk” that he referenced at the end of that initial press conference. They were not ready or prepared for the level of excellence that he brought. “That same light that allows you to shine is the same light that shows your blemishes.”
Can probably say the same thing about him taking the job in the first place. It’s highly likely that Shadeur would have redshirted his first year and may not have gotten a starting job at a big school even as a red shirt freshman this season. He was able to give his child a platform to play in a less competitive environment but with the big eyes.
@@Stanleyizamack How can you possibly watch this and say he fulfilled all his promises? He literally said he took the job called by God to level playing field with Power 5 conferences.
I wish him all the best. He is a good man & a class act. He was classy and gracious way back when he was 19 at FSU. I was there and I saw it. The coaches he had at FSU believed in building up young men. He learned from them before he became "Prime Time." He will enable young people to empower themselves.
This is just the beginning. We will have to thank Deion Sanders a 1000 times over because he is a trailblazer that is about to start something really big. A "Hall Of Fame" athlete going "back" to coach at a HBC. There will be many more to follow in Deion's trailblazing footsteps, and not just in football, but other sports as well, in these HBC's. This is really a huge step towards making a change. I definitely salute and support Deion in his efforts at Jackson State University ✊✊
C'mon First Take really! All Bomani said was is if it's Deion trying to just get exposure it won't work but if he's serious about coaching then he will do fine.
My thing is it’s prime time what exposure does he really need I think this dude is a great hire it’s not just about football he will groom these guys into men
Yeah, First Take did Bomani wrong that was not his main point. His point was making sure these kids were receiving quality education. Wins and losses do not have to be the determining factor of success like FBS. Bomani wanted to see these kids be on the path for the next 20 years of their lives because the FBS schools do not, he wants HBCUs to.

Abdul Rashid Al Sabur I know what he said I can read just like u commented. I just stated that because he listed all players who went to HBCUs nice try
At what point was he saying Deion was going to fail and nothing else? He CLEARLY said it would work and be a success if Deion was not doing it for Deion, which Deion has done in the past. Remind me where Deion went to university, because he could have played for Eddie Robinson at Grambling (1987-89)? And how did that Prime Prep Academy charter school fiasco work out (laundry list of federal fraud charges), since it "was all about the kids"? Ranked dead last out of 1,068 elementary schools in the greater Dallas area, and dude didn't stick around after the coaching didn't go his way. Bomani grew up in a HBCU educator's household, graduated from Clark Atlanta, and taught at NC Central while working on his doctorate. So whose more likely to be an "agent" and down for the black community? 🤔
Coaching is a life skill.hbcu football is where black foot players started at we have forgotten our past.the new motto should be remember the past pereserve the present and secure the future. History starts at home thank you deion Sanders your are bringing the legacy back.the great black football coaches are smiling down on you.hope you make it into the coaches hall of fame.
They did not play the whole clip, they did Bomani wrong there. Bomani's main point was JSU does not need wins to be successful in his eyes He cares more about the kids getting a quality education. Bomani said this level of CFB does not have to be cutthroat about wins and losses like FBS where all that matters 24/7 is winning even it if the players do not get a quality education. That was the point, is this going to be wins and losses so Deion can brag about his record or is it making the players are successful 20 years from now.
@chiboy773 Graduation rates, using some of the connects Prime has at these companies he partners with like UA and Barstool so those kids have paths of success that does not include the football field.
@chiboy773Getting a quality education and opportunities in the nfl are not mutually exclusive. At many of the top programs, it is , however. JSU does not need to be another, that was Bomani's point.
I prefer to see it as Bomani sending a subliminal hes saying bro dont you go hire no name coaches THIS is serious the white man is watching its time to turn up. I had preferred ig was Grambling but this makes sense. Time to steal players from the SEC.
He has alot of experience dealing with the youth, therefore he should be aware of his strengths and weaknesses when dealing with them. This could be a great thing for this program and those players. I hope that he succeeds. Seems like his heart is in the right place.
Deion also has connections that can get JSU sponsorships to improve facilities which he spoke about and Bomani Jones raised legitimate points. Being a Coach is going to bring criticism and not all will be fair like Bomani's. Wishing Coach Prime and JSU much success.
Never have i rooted for any individual, team or program as much as I'm rooting for this man at this school. Please succeed and be the catalyst for more of the same at these schools.

When have they stopped?

Prime has only ever been successful in anything he's done. So I fully expect the same. Neon Deion!
Roy don't support us, they hate us
@@superGJ24 ????
I am from Tupelo, MS and my youngest sister went to and was Miss Jackson State. Prime Time and Da Boom...can't tough this.

@@edredding until it translates into fans in the seats and kids going to the NFL it means absolutely nothing. Bomani is just pointing out the facts

Bomani absolutely comes off as hating because he is assuming Deion's intentions without knowing where Deion is in his life and the reasons behind the move. He could have just said he hopes it works out for all parties involved and kept it moving.
Deion has done a great job of developing young players for the last two decades.
If black athletes want real change, don't kneel protest, start going back to HBCU and giving back to them after you leave. Trust me if 30% of the elite players in the southern region start going back to HBCU the balance of power is going to be squarely on the players

I wish him the best and I know he will do good at JSU because he is such an inspiration to young kids.
Bomani didn’t diss him he simply said “if Deion is in it for his self he will fail” he’s right remember Brian billick one of the most ego driven head coaches where is he now.

Bomani always salty.
He’s actually telling the truth though
