I just discovered your channel Mike. I was born in 1966, so I hit High School from '80-'84. When DF came out with this song, I was so moved by it. I would have bet everything that no other artist could ever come close to matching the emotions and storytelling of the original song. I was wrong...... I also notice here he has the same incredible feeling and groove with a piano than with his beloved acoustic guitars :-) I didn't know this D. Fogelberg's song and now, I'm afraid to be less emotionally driven when listening to the original than I am here, discovering the song through Mike's vision of it !

Although I've played a long time I'm a bit introverted and don't like playing alone so I do it mostly for my own fun now although I played in bands when younger. I've always enjoyed your talents and posts. To me Fogelberg has to be one of the best Lyricists and musicians of our time. I was so bummed when he passed away so young. Such a sad loss. Love that song! A month or so ago, I read an article that interviewed the woman Dan wrote the song about. She said it was mostly true...her eyes aren't blue, but green. Dan apparently apologized to her when he saw her again and said he couldn't rhyme green. Also, ecstatic to see you back in Cincinnati next year. Absolutely Brilliant, Mike! I actually jammed right along with this on my acoustic and it was perfectly right on, even down to the acoustic solo riff I play at the end along with the sax. I actually play this song finger style, so it complimented well. This song is describes the exact thing that happened to me, too..except it was at a gas station in Houston and the year was '76 (his encounter was '75, I believe). She and I were both involved: she engaged, while I was living with somebody. She was/is definitely the one that got away. Anyway, thanks for posting this!
