In my opinion you should take your burst measurements with the cup. A curved line is longer than a straight line. This pattern cutting will only work for a corset with space at the back not with zip. Please dont judge me ooo its my opinion biko.

You can achieve a deep cup using both methods. If you are going for the bust cups, use bigger cups.
