    This was the first white shark I've seen in person surfing here in over 14 years. I want to stress that these sharks are always here, and are an important and healthy part of our ecosystem. In recent years they are becoming more visible thanks to drones and recording technology. I still surf this spot, and even speak with drone operators who show me the white sharks on camera before I paddle out.
    Why? White sharks segregate based on size in different regions and life stages. Here in Del Mar, we have juveniles (one of which is shown in the video) that are usually between 6-10 feet and are primarily focused on bottom fish. There is no issue surfing with these guys.

    Cheers and have fun out there!

      If there are juveniles, there are adults, sharks, just like humans, are not always predictable in their behaviors. God bless

      I took a look at that channel. And all I see is some guy telling horror stories.
      Try looking at TheMalibuArtist's channel. He flies with a drone and films sharks top-down.

    Malibu Artist TH-cam channel filmed multiple whites in that area around the same time. I saw a one breach there at 7th St in the fall and had one shadowing me while kayaking of 17th St. other friends who regularly SUP off Del Mar in mornings are seeing multiple whites frequently in the line up with some just over 10ft. anyone claiming it’s a dolphin is missing that dolphins arc when they leap clear of the water and they hold their tails steady. Whites continuously kick their tails while airborne and then flop into the water.

      @@adambaxter2107 yes, but there have been so many sightings of whites, my brother saw 4 while surfing Torrey Pines last Saturday, that the odds are that it was a white.

      its called breaching, they do that mostly when hunting seals, they can do that when its in deep water, as they can build up speed and momentum from deep below and just breach out vertically for the kill. Most seals usually didnt see it coming as it is suppose to be a surprise attack /ambush.

      @@rio20d teenage great whites breach for 'no reason at all' in SoCal; they've been filmed a number of times just doing their thing. Not sure why: They're too small to hunt for seals and there was not bait in the water. Perhaps just showing off or trying to get rid of parasites or 'feeling their oats'.

    • @28th_St_Air
      @28th_St_Air 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It absolutely is not. I’ve seen whites jump at least twice in the same area and there’s a big difference between what a white does when it jumps versus a dolphin. If you look closely you can see the white is still shaking it’s tail vigorously while it’s in the air. Whites do this but dolphins do not.
