  • I intend to hike the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) in 2024 and will vlog my experience. Follow me under "Old Man and the CDT."
I am Mike Current, 61-years-old, and retired military. I served for over 30 years in the US Army.
After retirement, I opened two small businesses. But after a few years, I sold both businesses because they were taking time away from pursuing personal goals, like hiking and sailing.
I hiked the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) in 2020 and Appalachian Trail (AT) in 2022. I vlogged (video journaled) my experiences under "Old Man and the PCT" and "Old Man and the AT", respectively.
I sailed around the Chesapeake Bay in my Tayana 37 sailboat over the summer of 2023 and vlogged the experience under the TH-cam channel "Old Man and the Sea."
I do not monetize my videos in any manner. However, if you would like to contribute to helping veterans thru-hike as a form of therapy for PTSD, please consider donating to Warrior Expeditions at warriorexpedit...

Morning, Mike. Glad you had a fairly easy day. And trail magic right before the end. Great way to finish the walk. Is it true you're going to do the Camino next year? Are you going to film it? I hope so. That would be neat. Ya'll have done so well on this trail. I can understand your body beginning to protest after all you've put it through. Looking at the lakes, mountains, and waterfalls today was a great way to start my day. So beautiful. Such a great reminder of the awesomeness of God's creation. You have also been blessed with a great trail family. Good to see Logman and Larry again. Take care. You've almost got this one in the bag. Stay safe. See you tomorrow.

Ok, so can we please fast-forward to the terminus? Though honestly, I'll miss my mornings with Mike.

    What a great day 😊
Went to Many Glaciers early July. Wind was blowing so hard! White caps on the lake. Saw my first grizzly bear and her cub.(I’ve been going for 10 years)
And say a moose swim across Grinnell lake( it’s the next lake over ) what a magical area you are in. Glacier never disappoints
    So great to watch you

Even when it’s gloomy out, Glacier is still beautiful! How nice to have more trail magic this far into the hike!

Hi Mike. 15 miles of hiking, has to feel like a very great day after what you went through. A big climb, but trail magic at the end. The view up top of the mountain was unbelievable. That hotel looked great, too bad it was not open. But what great trail magic. Nice fort he hikers to be able to use the closed camp ground. Be Strong, Even though you have hundreds of acres to pick where you tent goes, you are all close because you are all a real family. Be Strong, Be Safe, and thanks for taking us on this Journey.

Sounds like the tougher the day, the better you like it 👍😁. Also, I share your perspective on the mind/body connection involved in completing something as challenging as a thru hike. I used to run marathons (23 of them over the years) and I found that near the end and then finally finishing was as much a mental relief as it was a physically one.

Your brain and body might be having a discussion, but at least nobody is shooting at you-so there is that!😅
