I just finished my first repaint on a 17" Gooliope Jellington doll and you aren't kidding about the head omg. It took so much effort to get it off and even more effort to put it back on. Lesson learned.
The outcome is _really_ nice, although it pains me whenever I see a really good condition doll being torn up for a custom. 😭 At least the new her has more love and work put into her and that's what counts. 💖✨

There's not actual requirement to make a new doll, but sometimes some may feel if it can't be fixed, make it new.
also partially because these dolls are hard to find. the old models of monster high dolls are more wellmade than the newer models. that being said, I tend to love creative repaints more than whatever doll they used to be, but I understand why collectors would be a bit sad.

I made these doll eyes myself by using just strong clear glue instead of resin..it worked really well and it’s easy and unexspensive ;) Btw. nice doll! :3 💜

I’ve seen doll customisers dipping the head in warm water before taking it off the body. Maybe that will make it easier to take it off?

Why does that bother you?
Why does it need to be damaged to be repainted? Seems silly. The only reason not to customize new dolls is to save money.

I've tried apoxie glues, but they tend to yellow. What glue did you use, if you don't mind me asking?
