I recall playing the original SSX quite a bit when it first came out. I believe it was one of the early releases for the PS2. Tons of fun, tons of style, and the graphics were so far beyond what you would see on the original PlayStation. I know that Tricky is the consensus pick of the series - but for whatever reason, most of my memories go back to the first game.
Gradius Gaiden, I will always love for the Easter Island heads! There is an indie game called Super Hydorah that feels like a long-lost Gradius title. With elements of Darius, and some unique spins of its own. Really a great game, if you ever have a chance to check it out.

I think every Gradius game had the Easter Island heads. It's a mainstay of the series.
I have actually beaten Super Hydorah! It was a pretty decent game. I got stuck a few times for sure

How do choose the games? I mean you mentioned some sort of generator? I have a huuuuge backlog and would be fun to randomize it. Do you look to sell/trade games you rate less than, say, a 7 towards clearing space and getting games you may like/rate higher? (As I assume you won't really be looking to go back and play lower-rated games...) :P
I really never look to trade or sell anything in my collection. Even the bad games are a memory! But, if I run out of space...I may have to reconsider. 😅 Thanks for watching and commenting.
I couldn’t get into AI: Somnium Files. I felt the eye puns and the porn-y references were not for me. A friend put it into perspective: it’s a teenage boy’s wish fulfillment game, which explains the disjointedness of the entire game. Still, I regret paying more than I should for it.
Yeah! I totally get it. Your friend is exactly right. Maybe it's because I'm a male and had played a bunch of arcade style games right before it. But it felt just good enough for me to enjoy it. Maybe I was just thankful that it all didn't take place in a high school 😆
I was also actively rooting for a lot of the characters to be killed... and enjoyed it when it happened
Do you know Killer Frequency on the PS5, I don’t think I saw it in your PS5 collection. It’s a really fun narrative horror game, think I am going to pick that game for you to play.

My wife 100%ed AI a couple years back, she really enjoyed it.
SSX3 is the one I spent time with, it's quite fun!
I really liked FFL3 when I played it as a kid. Honestly I think it is a contender for best GB RPG. At the very least it felt way more like the Final Fantasy games than the first two, which is what I was looking for at 11.
That said, I also have no interest in buying the Saga collection; for me, once was enough for pretty much anything on the OG GameBoy.
I don't have a TON of experience with Gradius, but Gradius 5 with a friend was a great time. It really rewarded spending time with it, unlocking a ton of permanent upgrades as you played.
Defender looked bad.
As far as Paddlemania, I guess that's why it is part of a collection.

This batch of games was all over the place, as they usually are due to the randomness of everything. But, honestly, the one that surprised me the most was Defender. I really tried to have a good time with it...and it felt like everything was there for it to be a great experience. But it was just executed so poorly.
Playing Gradius Gaiden on a PS1 is a much more pleasant experience than on PSP. The aspect ratio is off and the graphics have an ugly filter that make the PSP port less fun to play, and as you noted, the PSP D-pad just doesn't cut it. I don't know that it's enough to drastically alter your opinion of the game, as it's still long and still re-uses a lot of series tropes, but it is a better overall playthrough. Anyway, fun video again!

SSX games are some of my favorite games ever. Just found out there was a spiritual successor that was being made that got cancelled. :(
I am so excited to try the other SSX games, you couldn't even imagine.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, it seems that most games you played in this batch were mediocre at best with the exception of the visual novel. Hopefully the next batch of games will be better!
Yeah. There were a couple of 8/10 games. Which are great. But, you have to expect most games to kind of fall in that 7/10 range.

Wow so happy you got to play Tricky. Those other games can be a little rough. I use a retrotink on my PSP to get a better picture and then zoom with the TV.
Yeah, I've got the retro tink part sorted, but it doesn't look great when I capture the footage. I keep forgetting that I can zoom in on the TV!

Awesome stuff buddy . That A.I game sound's funny hahaha. Im also glad that im not the only one that found the Final Fantasy Legend boring. I never finished any of them lol. I didn't know defender was a thing on PS2 and by the sound's of thing's buddy im glad i didn't hahaha.

There is one puzzle in it tho that stumped me for month's no lie and i had no internet back then when it first come out. Back in the day's were me and my friend would write down the puzzle's and stuff in a note pad and draw pictures and stuff to help us out lol. Im sure you will have no problem with it but i bet you will know exactly what puzzle i mean when you get to it hahaha.

Yesterday I ended beating Zone of the Enders 2nd Runner MARS on ps4 and Ar Tonelico Melody of Elemia on ps2. I challenged myself to beat 10 games off my backlog by the end of September. And all 10 are games I've spent some time in but I probably wouldn't finish unless I hyper focus on them. Now I'm down to 8

@RNGGamerYT I've beaten both Ar Tonelico games on ps2. And honestly I never though I could do that cause Nis America messed up the second games localization badly. Stil love it to death though

The one I have sealed is Ar Tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica. It's just the standard version
Tricky was my game back in college!! Me, some friends and a few drinks = a good night. We played it on a game cube witch allowed 4 people. The tricky mode with the 2x and 3x multipliers was always my favorite. It was a good time.

SSX Tricky is my favorite snowboarding game by far, so over the top and fun. The tricks are awesome. Cool Boarders 2 for PS1 I used to play all the time with my brother, remember loving that game.
SSX tricky really was incredible. I can't believe it took me so long to play it. I've never played Cool Boarders 2, but I did play the first one. That sounds like a really good memory with your brother.

I also recently finished AI: Somnium Files, and I have mixed feelings. I really wanted to like it, but between what you mentioned, where the timed "dream" sequences are trial and error, and the complete lack of tonal consistency ("Hey what's that magazine?"), I had to push myself through to the end. I enjoyed one of Spike Chunsoft's previous series, Zero Escape, much more than I did this game.
