- I was really looking forward to opening the new Return Of The Jedi Retro Collection Yak Face and comparing him to my Kenner original.🤔
Unfortunately the results were shocking!😳
I will definitely be contacting Hasbro about this as these action figures aren’t cheap.
I love the Star Wars Retro Collection but the quality control with the cardbacks and figures seems to be hit and miss at the moment!😡

That is crazy. Just received the box today, and my Yak Face has his ears. Very thankful! Great looking figure. I'd have been guttered if that had happened to me. Was like Christmas morning when opened the box they came in :)
Only issues I've had with retro collection is that Endor and ANH Han can't hold their gun.
I’m glad your figures came in one piece. I was obviously shocked when I realised he had no ears and I was seriously thinking of sending him back to Hasbro-Pulse but now I like the little guy. If I’d realised he had no ears I would have kept him on card and opened my other one. Putting the Retro Collection’s faults to one side, it really is like Christmas Day in the 80’s when you open these guys up. Thanks for watching.👍😉

I have a Stan solo yakface, but it was from early 2019 when he went by Smithlord creations so has a SLC stamp on his leg. It’s an unbelievably accurate replica. It’s exactly like the original. I never even knew hasbro reissued these. Imagine waiting 40 years for an affordable official reissue and getting one with no ears 😂 🤦♂️
I laugh about it now but at the time I was so disappointed. I think I’ve only heard of one other person with the same issue. Luckily I have the original version and a second Retro on card with ears.😂😂😂Those Stan Solo figures are very well made but the post and packaging isn’t great. Have you seen the prices that the Stan Solo figures are going for on eBay? 👍😉
I just got my Yak Face retro figure for Christmas 2023. Looks exactly the same as the 1984-85 Yak Face figure.
I’m glad to hear. I’ve only come across one other incident where the ears were missing. It seems I just got unlucky but I now quite like the little guy. Overall a wonderful set of Retro figures from Hasbro-Pulse. Happy New Year.😉👍
The old head, looks like a two part injection mould, whereas the new one would mostlikely be a single mould.
If the pressure is not enough in the machine the plastic doesn't get to the extremities of the mould.
I'd say keep it, you have the complete version carded, so the other 'oddity' is a bonus.
As to value on your old one, single figures for Yak are around the £200-300 mark for a good loose figure moving to £1,000-2,000 for a carded tri-logo...rough estimate on your original due to slight discoloration around £150 ish.
But as piece of your toy history - priceless
Yeah, it is an oddity. I sort of wish I’d opened the Yak with the ears instead but then I would likely not of noticed the error. £150 for my 1985 Yak?🤔 That’s not bad for an action figure that cost 69p in Tesco’s sale.😂 I’d never get rid of him as he is one of the originals.👂👂👍

😂😂😂Would love to but I am now skint! Hasbro Pulse emailed me yesterday to say my Retro Collection box set with the vac metalised R2D2 and C3PO will be dispatched at the end of the month. A very expensive October but I can’t wait to get them.👍

Hasbro are counting on the fact that most customers won't take it out of the packet so the packaging hides his missing ears.
Yeah, I agree with you. I had no idea until I opened him. My other carded Yak Face is absolutely fine. I did consider sending him back but now I quite like him.😂Cheers for watching.👍😉
Agree if hasbro made that mistake then they have no respect for the Kenner figures.
It’s sad but you can tell who ever produces the Retro Collection didn’t grow up with the originals. I bought a Marvel Retro Firestar from Game the other day and the cardback is nice and thick and the bubble is perfect. Why is it no the same for the Retro Collection? Hopefully things will change.👍😉

Ive got an original yak face. Hes just sitting there, basically doubled in value since i got him. Sometimes I wonder what I could buy if I sold him...
I still can’t believe how much the original is worth. Mine was 69p from Tesco. I remember seeing a collectors magazine in the 90’s where he was valued at £70. I would never sell my one, or my earless Retro Collection version.😂😂👍

Wow that’s some craziness!!!! I felt so sad for you cause I know just how much they mean to you … that’s crazy !!! I would e-mail hasbro take some pictures but keep this one because I’ve seen weird stuff (one offs ) Star Wars items sell for big dollars . One will never know. But there’s someone out there .. I would take him just on how limited he is without the ears .. But I’m really sorry this happened to you . When people watch your videos one can tell just how much the item means to you and the stories behind the figures. That’s what I really like cause it brings me back to my childhood. Take care Ed

Just got my RETURN OF THE JEDI six-pack RETRO set.
After watching this video (and learning from your mistake), I made sure I thoroughly checked my Yak first ... thankfully, no production errors. Both ears present and accounted for. 👂👂
I like to collect "loose" but will make an exception for the RETRO Yak Face. Since he's so expensive (I'll never own an original), I'll keep him mint on card in a protective Star Case, and packed away.
Glad you’re Yak Face is okay. Putting the issues to one side it is a really good set. I’ve now got my Wave 2 of A New Hope. Really looking forward to opening up R2D2 and C3PO.😉👍
That's a great boxed set.
I got mine months ago. C-3PO and R2-D2 are definitely the highlights (it's also good to own more Jawas, Tusken Raiders, and Death Squad Commanders too).
Can't wait for the remaining SW figures from the 1978/79 lines (Boba Fett's already been released). The four (or five) cantina aliens are favourites - especially Greedo and (red) Snaggletooth.@@mastersjoke

This occasionally happens in mass produced injection-molded plastic. It's called a short shot. The mold doesn't completely fill in.

Rare leper variant ? Small extremities do drop off first I believe, ears , noses, fingers 😂! If this is a rare mistake could be worth a bob or two ? Poor quality control , right there.

I have given up with the retro line now. Quality control terrible. Not even bought any of the ROTJ line. Stopped at the bounty hunter 2 packs. The 2nd wave of new hope the bubbles were way too big compared to the 1st wave. Another wave i did not bother with. I watch reviews and its money well saved
After the fiasco over A New Hope Wave 1 not being able to hold their guns, then The Emperor with the extra bit of plastic on his arm, and now poor Yak, I kind of think what’s the point. I’m over it now but it is so disappointing from a big toy company like Hasbro.😉👍👂👂

Love the RETRO lines, but quality control is crap.
I did own a RETRO Boba Fett with the paint never applied to one of the cheeks on his helmet, another, I still own, has a deformed arm joint. I tried softening the plastic to pop the arm back into place, but wasn't successful. Instead, I repainted the figure to more closely resemble the 1979 Kenner original (I prefer Boba's flight suit purple to the RETRO's blue colour), and now use him for display alongside the RETRO COLL Dark Times Darth Vader.
I'd keep the "Chopper Edition" Yak Face. Knowing HASBRO's product, they'll send you another defect. 🤣

I cant figure (no pun intended) why this retro line lack so much of the nice and fine details that the original figures has.
Just look at the hairs on his scarf. Another detail missing, except his 3:rd degree burnt face (no ears) is the seam line in the middle of his face 😄😉
And it seemed like you opened up the "wrong" one. You should have keept the non ear version seald for 40 years, and then sold him for 500USD 😉 (Well I dont know how you should have been sold him 40 years into the future, right now)

I honestly didn’t have a clue he didn’t have any ears although I was relieved that at least one of my Yaks was complete. If I’d known I would have left him on card. I think I was a bit harsh with the 0 out of 10 and the little guy has now grown on me. A one of a kind.😂👍

These RETRO COLLECTION figures are expensive. I'm so glad I filled out my "Last 17" with STAN SOLO (and a small number of Kenner originals) when they were more affordable.
Even the STAN SOLO (superior bootlegs to Hasbro's RETRO COLLECTION) repros are getting expensive now. The Hasbro RETRO COLLECTION will be the cheaper option to get the remaining 17 POTF figures, that new (or old) collectors struggle with - if Hasbro does decide to release all 96 (or whatever the number is?) vintage Kenner action figures.
Hoping the Sy Snootles and the Max Rebo Band gets a reissue, too.
$900 for Yak Face? Wow. I still need Amanaman and a couple of Ewoks and that’s it.
I couldn’t believe the prices of the Stan Solo figures on ebay. They are far superior to Hasbro. I do love his droids. If they can make money out of it I’m sure Hasbro will release all 96. The Max Rebo band would be good but I’d love some retro vehicles released.
I'm hoping for the RETRO COLLECTION Dewback, Hoth Wampa and Tauntaun. Minty, fresh white (and green) examples from Hasbro would be nice. I don't collect any of the vintage Kenner accessories - only the figures - but would make an exception for the listed items. Perhaps, even the Rancor beast?@@mastersjoke
