As far as Pepe Le Pew is concerned, people clearly misunderstood his character because it's not portrayed in rape culture. It's portrayed the way Chuck Jones characterized him. Pepé Le Pew storylines typically involve Pepé in pursuit of a female black cat, whom Pepé mistakes for a skunk ("la belle femme skunk fatale"). The cat, who was retroactively named Penelope Pussycat, often has a white stripe painted down her back, usually by accident (such as by squeezing under a fence with wet white paint). Penelope frantically races to get away from him because of his putrid odor (really because of that), his overly aggressive manner or both, while Pepé hops after her at a leisurely pace.
Also there's the episode where the stripe washes off and he leaves her alone. Then the blue paint covering Pepe LePew and his stink makes Penelope suddenly fall in love with him as he runs away in fright.

Nice timing..I just started watching Looney Tunes on HBO Max last week. I was sick and just wanted to watch something funny and easy going while I laid in bed sick. I remember growing up watching these, so it was really nice to revisit some of the best cartoons ever made. I started at 1940 with the first appearance of Bugs, and I've watched up to 1945 so far. I was only planning to watch while sick, but these brought back such great memories, that I'm still watching them lol. The one thing that doesn't bother me at all, is all the "offensive" jokes.. these are cartoons. Even as a kid, I never took what Pepe was doing seriously. I had enough brain cells to know the difference between over the top jokes and real life. The stereotypes didn't bother me either, because I thought they were funny, and I knew they were just jokes.
@@reedspace8267 well that sucks. But I figured a lot of it was gone while browsing the seasons and seeing less episodes on certain seasons. I'm still gonna watch what's there because I just love Looney Tunes.
As somebody that grew up watching these old cartoons, they definitely shaped my sense of humor and were definitely ahead of their time in a lot of cases; others (#1) not so much.
None of those 'classic' WB cartoons were made specifically for children. They were made to accompany movies (like trailers) in theaters. At the time TV didn't exist so most of your visual entertainment was at the local movies. One of the original creators even said so in a later interview when asked about the violence.
Pepe Le Pew isn't creepy, he's adorable. And for the record he's supposed to be a talking animal, not a human.. 😌 I found him funny when I was little and as an adult I don't take him seriously, cause he's a cartoon..🙄
Good stuff from a better time. When people weren’t so “offended” by everything. Luckily we had parents and knew right from wrong. We didn’t need outsiders telling us what we needed to see or hear.
Ahh i miss pre woke, pc looney tunes when they were good. As a Mexican American I was never offended by Speedy. In fact we love him. Hopefully they don't give him the Pepe Le pew treatment...
@@Wiiguy1606 I wouldn't say trope just a fact that Mexicans don't care and have a sense of humor and can take a joke unlike others now days. Thats the point of this kind of comedy is stereotyping but thats also why it's funny. Now days though people are too sensitive and have no sense of humor sadly...tbsts why comedy is dying. Fluffy, Dunham, Gervais and various other comedians have spoken about this.
Anyone offended by pepe le pew don't know the point of cartoons..... cartoons are funny because they are a caricature of people and things. Of course it pushes the extremes... comedy is supposed to....
The only cartoon I have a problem with on this list is Almira. She always gave me the creeps. She strikes me as the kind of person that would abuse her pet, and as soon as no one was looking, she do something horrible to it.
I was thinking that Pepe could return, but toning him down from a downright creep to that guy who tries to flirt with ladied but never resorting to stalking. Any opinions?
@@japhyryder66 Then how about like Tex Avety's Wolf. Because, from what I've heard, ge was also a stalker and the whole thing was a comefy, but his actions were still painted as bad.
Pepe le Pew is a comedic take on French stereotypes. It's offensive sure, but it is still pretty damn funny. Also, it's not surprising about the racist past, it was at it peak popularity during the 40s, 50s and to a lesser extent the 1960s. If you have watched several movies from that time period, that kind of negative stereotyping was very common. The fun thing about offensive material is, if it offends you, turn it off. Very simple!!
To be fair some of the shorts are controversial by today's standard. Especially the Censored 11. That said I do enjoy most of those shorts but there are some terrible shorts in that bunch for different reasons besides the stereotypes.
I believe the show was made for everyone kids and adults because it is so funny and sometimes relatable or cute. If you are talking kids shows I believe it would be peppa pig and Barney. Because sometimes I can even sit through a classic Disney movie like Bambi. Bambi had cool animation etc. I can also still enjoy Lion king more than peppa pig. Not insulting anyone that likes peppa pig I just don’t see anything necessarily funny or relatable about it for any older audience I believe Peppa pig was geared to younger audience. Not Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes, Lion King, All Dogs Go To Heaven and Aristocats. I still enjoy these till this day. I think a lot of older movies were better than todays. I also like that their were characters that prayed to God more in older cartoons or movies or references that there is an afterlife.
He was just to dumb to know about lawyers. But then, there must have been some kind of Consumer's Protection Agency back then with warning labels...we just never saw them, and Wile E. would just ignore them in his quest for rotisserie road-runner.
Multiplying like Rabbits almost blew my mind. But it’s makes perfect sense that rabbits in real life, multiply. 😂 I’ve also wandered so much why ACME was used in this cartoon and some of others. Kind of catchy name for almost anything.
A lot of those are just Jokes that go over kids heads. You could remove Loony Tunes from the factor and make a new list spanning comedy in general. and there is a lot more then just those jokes you could easily make other lists some of those things are things related to your own personal education there for they still go over adults heads and can possibly be known by children depending on how you learned. I would put them ore in an obscure fact list rather then a wink wink nudge nudge list pepe le pew is some one whose actions are more inappropriate now then back then rather then focusing on how chases women and hates being chased by women, you could focus on how he plays up on a stereotype that All French people were aggressive lovers or you could point out how all the comedy comes from him smelling bad not from his actions being unwanted . Like the only reason that cat's not in to him is because he's stinky. Any time you take the smell away or paint over the stripe , she's very in to him. and if you're going to fucus on inappropriate jokes not subtle adult jokes then there are a lot more to look at also you used one Tiny Tunes episode and that's technically not the same thing. and in some cases you don't even show the moment your discussing. also people need to stop trying to protect children. If you have to edit gun violence from an Elmer Fud Cartoon so kids won't shoot each other your better off just not airing 30s and 40s content on your network. people need to learn that the PAST was an era when every thing we are offended by was perfectly OK and very moral . It wasn't an era of mean spirited rude people it was a time when we could say and do those things because it was still acceptable behavior. If you don't like it don't watch it. don't censor it out of fear that your kids cant have a conversation with you latter. If you hate Loony Tunes then might as well also ban your kids from Monty Python or Three Stodges or Marx Brothers or Bob Hope farther more Cartoons were never "For kids" cartoons were, always have been and still are "for all ages" heck they STILL slip adult humor in to cartoons. Animaniacs, Freakazoid, Powerpuff Girls, Johny Bravo its only in the last 20 or so years that we started getting so fussy over what's said in cartoons. Even then Adult Humor is STILL in Gravity Falls, Amphibia, Owl House, Pixar, Dream Works, Illumination, the Cat in the Hat, etc
While he's hard to excuse in this day and age I always thought of Pepe LePew as a tryhard- someone who always got rejected by the one thing they really wanted. Ah well- humor, like society, changes over time. We can only hope that it continues to change for the better.
That would be the point of the original joke. Chuck Jones himself said that he was not meant to be an offensive French stereotype that all French men smell. It's that Pepe becomes enamored with what he thinks is a female skunk. That's really a cat with a paint painted down its back but he must never know that he himself smells
Even with many Mexicans telling you that Speedy was the hero and they were not offended at him always winning, you still try to portray him as an "offensive stereotype" and you're wrong. Stop being offended on behalf of someone else - or for an entire country.
Mostly that dog...whacking him on the ass with a board. Most of the "violence" was against Foggy anyway...things blew up in his face, smacked, de-feathered, etc.
For god sake! You guys need to get over Pepe Le Pew! He’s a freaking Looney Toons character not some serial rapist hiding in an alley waiting for victims to walk by! Grow up!
The editing can be wild. It wasn't that many years ago I saw a Mr Magoo cartoon that included an Asian character with the rice field hat. And while the character was drawn in the old school racial way, they simply overdubbed the racist original voice with a strange deep white man voice.
I want the Looney Tunes cartoons from WW2 released on blu-ray. Pepe le Pew is a cool character. The cat usually ends up chasing him after he's been nailed by something that eliminates his skunk stink.
Don't know about the rest of America but when Bugs Bunny was on TV about 1 in 5 families had a bunny rabbit pen in their backyards. Small town, my senior class had 174 students. We knew all about how bunnies got here or at least I did by age 7. Nothing dirty at all, it was exposure to the real world in real time something video games cannot duplicate!
Mojo screws up again: the main “only adults will get,” was even shown and not referred to: The Casablanca one. Kids don’t know it’s taken from Casablanca. Like wise some looney tunes showed famous actors and no kids could ID the real actors. All that crap about sexual harassment is pointless
Give me a good old Looney Tunes cartoon any day! 😂 Most of the kids cartoons today are just crap, with the exception of adult-ish streaming cartoons. 😉 And, yeah, my dad and I shared a passion for the 3 Stooges. Never tried to poke anyone's eyes out, cut off their nose with scissors or pellet their bum with a nail gun. 🤣🤣🤣 Btw, met Moe and Larry in the late 60's. One of the highlights of my life. 😍😍😍
Going back a few years, Ren and Stimpy could be violent. I think some were so bad, they never reran them. But I still like the "Happy Happy Joy Joy" song.
My biggest shock as an adult was the episode where 2 mice ate sooo much cheese they can't bare to have more & a life without cheese is a life not worth living so they decide to comit suicide. Then the cat & dog all try to kill themselves
That's right because the cat couldn't believe the idea that two might actually wanted to be eaten and when the two mites wouldn't leave the cat alone, he wanted to commit to it that by having the dog eat him, the dog finds the misunderstanding. But instead of figuring out what went wrong, he planned that crazy. That the two mice want the cat to eat them. But the cat won't eat the mice and the mites won't eat the cheese and as he screamed it just don't add up
One thing I would like to point out is that the boys at Termite Terrace never said they specifically made the cartoons for kids. Sure, kids ate them up, but I remember an interview where one of the former workers there said they made them for themselves.
I guess this list is more built for people who don't regularly watch re-runs of Looney Tunes. Though, the name origin of Acme and the inspiration of Bugs Bunny were new to me.
you may not know that these cartoons ran in the movie houses between the feature films as movie shorts, and were written for adults, not kids. also, these were made before television was a household word, due to the fact that no one had a television set until well after "WW2". also these cartoons did not get re run on television until network systems were established, like when "TELSTAR" was put into orbit in the early 1960's, and microwave relay stations were built!!!!!. before network television, it was all local programming. to answer your question, yes we did watch the cartoons on saturday morning, and would get up extra early and watch the TEST PATTERN", just to make sure that we did not miss any of it. the adult aspect of the cartoons went over our heads when we were in single digits, but our parents sure got a big kick out of it.

I know. Political Correctness ruins everything! I am not politically correct, and proud to admit it!!
Happy New Year y'all! If I said it before I'll say it again, Bugs gets his looks from his mother cuz I HATE how good he looks in drag!! 👗 ❤
Thank You for this List and Thanks for ALL of the Videos and hard work that goes into making them.
Please have a Happy & Healthy New Year 😀
None of those 'classic' WB cartoons were made specifically for children.
Although there are many great cartoons out there for every generation, old Looney Tunes are the best cartoons out there. You just can't beat them.
Happy New Year Everyone
Good stuff from a better time. When people weren’t so “offended” by everything. Luckily we had parents and knew right from wrong. We didn’t need outsiders telling us what we needed to see or hear.
Amen to that!
Children cannot be exposed to anything bad or they might not become proper snowflakes.
Ahh i miss pre woke, pc looney tunes when they were good. As a Mexican American I was never offended by Speedy. In fact we love him. Hopefully they don't give him the Pepe Le pew treatment...
Right? Anything that was Mexican/Hispanic related, especially on Tv or radio, was perceived with “we made it!” vibes. At least to me it was.
@@alcochino210 Yep. Now days they think everyone is offended by everything...takes the fun out of it.
Yes, he's the Trope Namer for "Mexican love Speedy Gonzales" where a stereotype actually is loved by the people it's stereotyping
Hopefully they don't remove the Taptio guy neither. The US is the only country that gets offended by everything.
1:48-2:02-2:19 Best parts of the video in my opinion
Anyone offended by pepe le pew don't know the point of cartoons..... cartoons are funny because they are a caricature of people and things. Of course it pushes the extremes... comedy is supposed to....
Daffy was always my favorite
Director Chuck Jones saw the potential in Daffy Duck and then made some of the best Looney Tunes like "Duck Amuck" and the first Duck Dodgers.
Fun fact: Looney tunes meant to be adult content but it instead it was for kids
It's a shame that in the last decade so many people have become so over-sensitive about CARTOONS.
Top 10 Things Only Adults Notice in Rocko's Modern Life
Looney tunes so good with dark undertones iconic
The only cartoon I have a problem with on this list is Almira. She always gave me the creeps. She strikes me as the kind of person that would abuse her pet, and as soon as no one was looking, she do something horrible to it.
Considering looney tunes was made for adults it makes sense only adults noticed these
Remember when people had a sense of humor? Yeah,me too, good times.
#2 - Back when both kids and adults saw cartoons for they were: not real life, regardless of the material.
I was thinking that Pepe could return, but toning him down from a downright creep to that guy who tries to flirt with ladied but never resorting to stalking. Any opinions?
Like Johnny Bravo?
@@MrJmanrey Perhaps.
My opinion is no. Leave Pepe alone. I’m so fucking sick of people who can’t take a damn joke.
@@japhyryder66 Then how about like Tex Avety's Wolf. Because, from what I've heard, ge was also a stalker and the whole thing was a comefy, but his actions were still painted as bad.
@@juanrisa945 Tex Avery was a genius. His cartoons were masterpieces. You need to lighten up.
I Love Looney Tunes
It was the Wile E. Coyote latin names that got me😅😅
Great video!!! Whoever wrote this video’s script needs a raise!!! So well done 👍🏽
"HardHeadipus Oedipus"....gotta use that line on someone in 2023....
WatchMojo once again telling you what you should find offensive with their tinted glasses.
To be fair some of the shorts are controversial by today's standard. Especially the Censored 11. That said I do enjoy most of those shorts but there are some terrible shorts in that bunch for different reasons besides the stereotypes.
I saw rabbit seasoning on boomerang
I figured out the Plucky Duck one, as a kid. Doing it in my head, I figured it out and I was like "Oh..." lol
What's even funnier than the cartoons is the reaction of anybody who is offended by the cartoons.
I just assumed Wile Coyote has a Good Line of credit with the ACME Corporation...that's why he's never sued them. 😁
I’ve also wandered so much why ACME was used in this cartoon and some of others. Kind of catchy name for almost anything.
The gestation period for a rabbit is only twenty-,eight days!
Happy New Year! 2023! I didn't realize there was so many adult references and jokes in Looney Tunes.
A lot of those are just Jokes that go over kids heads. You could remove Loony Tunes from the factor and make a new list spanning comedy in general.
and there is a lot more then just those jokes you could easily make other lists
some of those things are things related to your own personal education there for they still go over adults heads and can possibly be known by children depending on how you learned. I would put them ore in an obscure fact list rather then a wink wink nudge nudge list
pepe le pew is some one whose actions are more inappropriate now then back then rather then focusing on how chases women and hates being chased by women, you could focus on how he plays up on a stereotype that All French people were aggressive lovers or you could point out how all the comedy comes from him smelling bad not from his actions being unwanted . Like the only reason that cat's not in to him is because he's stinky. Any time you take the smell away or paint over the stripe , she's very in to him.
and if you're going to fucus on inappropriate jokes not subtle adult jokes then there are a lot more to look at
also you used one Tiny Tunes episode and that's technically not the same thing.
and in some cases you don't even show the moment your discussing.
also people need to stop trying to protect children.
If you hate Loony Tunes then might as well also ban your kids from Monty Python or Three Stodges or Marx Brothers or Bob Hope
farther more Cartoons were never "For kids" cartoons were, always have been and still are "for all ages"
heck they STILL slip adult humor in to cartoons.
One left out of the video: Foghorn Leghorn's violence towards a kid, or a tiny chicken anyway.
Mostly that dog...whacking him on the ass with a board. Most of the "violence" was against Foggy anyway...things blew up in his face, smacked, de-feathered, etc.
Pepe Le Pew is a controversial skunk on how he behaves towards other characters, and influence audiences especially young children.
Bugs Bunny is a smart rabbit
For god sake! You guys need to get over Pepe Le Pew! He’s a freaking Looney Toons character not some serial rapist hiding in an alley waiting for victims to walk by! Grow up!
Looney Tunes is still for kids
The editing can be wild. It wasn't that many years ago I saw a Mr Magoo cartoon that included an Asian character with the rice field hat. And while the character was drawn in the old school racial way, they simply overdubbed the racist original voice with a strange deep white man voice.
Happy New Year 🎉🥳
I want the Looney Tunes cartoons from WW2 released on blu-ray. Pepe le Pew is a cool character. The cat usually ends up chasing him after he's been nailed by something that eliminates his skunk stink.
Aah I miss these cartoons.
Pepe Le pew is just funny but he is like this
Pepe is a legend - nuff said!
Free beer for singing 🐸
People who complain about drag shows being evil forget Bugs had been seducing men in drag since the 1940s.
that's funny because it's true
Please do "Top 10 Biggest nepo-babies" next.
It's going to be a hit 😎
MsMojo has one, I believe.
Looney Tunes sure feels different watching it as a grown up with all the silly reality tv shows crap it feels like they teach us about life.
Plucky Duck's name would not be offensive. What's offensive about Flucky?
Who would be surprised at the racism of looney tunes. They were made in the 40s and 50s. That should be the first thing you expect.
I rather watch these cartoon then the crap that is on these days. Some of the newer stuff is more violent than them. Keep your new cartoons!!
Going back a few years, Ren and Stimpy could be violent. I think some were so bad, they never reran them. But I still like the "Happy Happy Joy Joy" song.
Can't make cartoons anymore. Everyone is so sensitive
Perfect video to remind ourselves that this is the year of Rabbit
Top 10 Things Adults Notice In Fat Albert and The Cosby Kids
And Alice in wonderland 😂
the "Fat" name, "Mushmouth" (a kid with a speech impediment)...those are the only two I can think of for now.
Can we just stop with the Pepe Le Pew hate, TH-cam channels keep constantly turning over this lie about pepe as if they didn't even f****** watch any of the episodes from start to finish with a pair of me too glasses on🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
You have to admit he was a little annoying.
We know who Judy Hopps is related to!
I miss Looney tunes Classics
The world wasn't SOFT then
Since the advent of EPT, the meaning of “Kill the Rabbit!” may not be so obvious…even to us now grown up!
Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry come on Boomerang
My boss told me Pepe Le Pue, the skunk, was a dig at French hygiene. No one else mentioned this to me, but WB, if true, probably wishes all this would go away.
