He is Billy. People think it’s just pure bodybuilding, but Dorian is so much more than that. A good motivational speaker for all sports. Pure dedication and hard work is Dorians ethic and it’s the only way to be at the top of your game, irrespective of what that is.
I did the exact same thing when I first started to train. I still have all of my notebooks with my workouts from the past 6 years. Writing everything down helps you to track progress and gives you something to aim for. People laugh at me when I tell them I will sometimes use a calculator to work out how much I should lift - this is mainly because alot of people underlift for their experience, weight, age, ect.
@@maurice970 Firstly, you'd need to figure out what your one-rep max is on all or any exercise you wish to perform within your workout. Next, figure out what your aim is; Strength, Hypertrophy, Endurance or Conditioning. Your rep range and % of your one-rep max is going to be different for each of those four mentioned above. For example; if my One Rep Max Bench Press is 100kg, for Strength I'd use a rep range of 3-6 Reps utilizing 85%-95% (85kg-95kg) of my One Rep Max. For Conditioning (based on the same One Rep Max of 100kg) I'd use a rep range of 15-20+ reps utilizing 50%%-60% (50kg-60kg) of my One Rep Max. Also, you wont use the same amount of sets for Strength and Conditioning, neither would the rest periods between sets performed be the same. Over time, once your muscles have st rted to respond and are use to those movements within your workouts, increase the weight every few weeks, e.g; Week One, Two, Three; Bench Press - 3 sets 100kg. Week Four and Five; Bench Press - 2 sets 100kg, 1 set 110kg. Week Six; Bench Press - 1 set 100kg, 2 sets 110kg. Week Seven; Bench Press 3 sets 110kg. Thats just an example of how you can increase weight over time, you can increase at your own pace. Don't increase the weight to fast or to the point where your form suffers. I've trained people and tired them out using very light weights (lifting properly) after they've boasted how much they can lift (normally with poor form, poor range of motion, poor tempo). Hope this has helped, sorry if any of this info is patronising. Have a good day!
Simple and effective - straight to the point. Way ahead of your time in thinking differently about training frequency and recovery. Thank you for sharing your journey and experience lessons learned.
Blood & Guts! I copied this planning & going through my leg, back or chest workouts the night b4 because he said this is what he did. A rehearsal b4 the workout! I was so pumped back then 93-2008.
I really enjoy listening to DY... and I think it's because he gives off this aura of geniune-ness with no ego about him. Training with him must be awesome!
If you don't keep at least some very basic records of what you are lifting you'll have a hard time making progress. Your body will lie to you and constantly tell you that you can't lift a certain weight or do a certain number of repetitions. But if you have it written down that you doing 15 reps at a certain weight NOW you can tell your body that it has to do that number of reps.
never used a note book and i still made great progress and after 50 plus years still love lifting..But yes if you feel it helps you there is nothing wrong with keeping notes... I just am into lifting for health and fitness and to look my best,so i always change my workouts which for me works great...
Is there any way to see what the price would be for a personal training session with the shadow himself? I would love to learn from him, if possibly not only about training but also about nutrition.
Hello sir this machine incline chest press is not available in my gym..please can you tell me alternate of this machine ..I like this machine but unfortunately this is not available in our gym
Sir seeking your help im using whey protein from last 4 months i got good results but now these last 20 days im facing sinus and breathing problem.when I stopped taking I'll be all right in2 days ! What to do plz tell I've started gym at the age of 35 I don't want to kill my gains.
Stop taking whey protein bro. Try whey isolate, i had stomach problems with whey protein but when i take the whey isolate all the pain goes. Might help you. If it continues to give you problems just dont take it. Health matters more.
Dear John, muscular hypertrophy is triggered by the same mechanisms in the human body. Muscle growth is actually an adaptation of your body to physical stress. If you are a natural bodybuilder you will reach your full natural potential faster using Hight Intensity Training, spending less time in the gym. You can see my full training routine and complete explanations about HIT principles here: dorianyates-hit.com . Cheers!
I know these guys used steroids....so what....they had the mindset to win, to achieve, to be the best. Most of these guys had terrible lives as youngsters and we're motivated to breakout of that nightmare. If I used steroids to the maximum Icould not achieve what these bodybuilding legends have. We should all look upon these testimonials objectively, without malice. They risked everything to have a better life and " feel loved". Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged
Well, Dorian used steroids like Anadrol during 12 years, and is not only say "Oh You must training hard until the muscular fail and eat well" bla bla .. the steroids help too much for gain muscle and size in few weeks.
The greatest bodybuilders and powerlifters in history have never written down a single thing. They listen to their body and do what feels "correct" from a day to day basis, without taking notes. Keeping a written log becomes a depressing chore for most guys because they expect to see weekly gains that aren't realistic without the steroid cycle Dorian was on the entire time. What Dorian did is basically unheard of, nobody sticks with it for very long because it's totally unnecessary, and his notes are only good for HIS specific body and genetic makeup. It would be like trying to use someone else's racing setup on your car and expecting to perform exactly like the do just because you went off of their notes.
This dude is hands down one of the top bodybuilders ever
These videos are immensely useful. Short, relevant and always give me something to think about for the next workout.
Glad to hear it!
