gear oil and lithium grease can damage your seals and O-ring... for all suspension is recommended fork oil and silicone grease... I use Motorex Fork oil and RSP slick-kick grease but next year i will using RSP fork oil in my all suspension and for servicing all suspension
Lithium products may contain petrochemical products which can damage NBR o rings. That's why suntour suggest silicon grease. 80W synthetic is safe on these forks
@@totoxahc hi.. I would go with synthetic...to reduce emulsification with water.. TBH These basic Suntour forks are so primitive it probably doesn't matter. Lol
Is this specific to the suntour leaking fork (which I have on my sons 24 inch wheel Rocky Mountain kids bike?) it just has had a slow leak since I have it it
I used to put 15w oil in, and idk if it leaks or dried out, but it did pretty fast. Then I put 80W gear oil, and now it's doing what's called a fork suck down. So I'd recommend sticking to a lower weight oil.
I have also air leaking fork, and want to try this. But i don't have special fork oil available. The Silicon grease for the Insert with the valve i have here, but not the oil. What Do you think can i also use i bit of motor oil?
i have an old set of marzochi bomber forks on my mtb and they leak air , but very slowly. like after a month they might lose a few psi. would an oil change fix them from leaking at all
How do you solve air leak on the Triair shock? I replaced the valve stems and still have a major source of leakage somewhere. It's holds air at a stop but once under load and riding it deflates rather quickly. I am not sure what to do next.
@@jasper8928 yeah I found the problem. I had a very small pin hole in the air can sleeve. I've tried plugging it with JB weld steel stick and epoxy but both only work for a while and eventually leak again. Every time I try to get a replacement air can from Suntour it's out of stock. It's been out of stock since Covid began. I went ahead and bought a Rockshox piggy back and a DNM coil over. Neither of them compare to the smooth action of the TriAir but hopefully Suntour will come thru with a new aircan for my shock or an entirely new shock. As for a fork that is leaking air it can only be a couple things. It's either the seals or the air piston or the valve stems. Fill it with air and put it under soapy water like you would a tire tube and your leak will reveal itself to you. Good luck. 🙋
mine got increasingly worse over a period of a year and at the start it wasn't leaking at all and now its leaking 100 psi in 30 mins ive put oil often but it just keeps leaking out and it only fixes it for like 5 days then its back to losing the 100 psi in 30 mins
This means you have a damaged o-ring. You need to disassemble the fork and replace damaged seal. It will most likely be cracked or not round in few places.
This is kludge to work around poor air seals in Suntour forks.Shame on Suntour for even suggesting it. Real solution would be to manufacture better seals
epic fail on the gear lube, suspension forks need special anti friction modifiers to function properly. i would advise fox gold what happens is you have more stiction with oils not made for suspension forks. you maybe able to use fox float fluid.
What do you use to seal the top cap at 2:11?
Silicon grease, available from plumber suppliers. Be careful not to contaminate your disk brakes with it. Its notoriously hard to remove.
Thx for this video. simple way of servicing the front forks
Can i use 80w-90 gear oil?
Can i use multi purpose oil
Wherr i can buy a 80w gear oil?
thank you for this.. my fork now work flawlessly..👍👍👌👌👌
Did this to my fork using gear oil. Works great plus i used lithium grease for lubrication :)

What fork oil uses Santour? What kind of oil used by the author? Synthetic or mineral? What silicone grease was used?
5years late...but I think its 80w synthetic gear oil you will need . NOT hypoid versions as there is additives that may harm the valve.
Suntour didn't seem keen to interact:(
@@BassSwirls what if i used hypoid

Hi, is it possible to do thid procedure on the other fork leg (rebound side)?
my raidon forks when I ride and hit a sudden rock or something make a sweak sound and some air comes out any help on this?
I've got a raidon fork and I've got the same problem, did you ever manage to stop the fork from losing pressure?
Hi guys did you try to clean all the dirt inside and reassemble and try if there is any news tell me
Replace Piston
can i use baby oil or light green fork oil ?
Replace O-Ring on the alley screw and use the required torque.
I have Sr Suntour Raidon 34 boost forks on a Voodoo Canzo 2018. Can I do the same for these forks.
Yessir.
Is that applicable on any kind of air suspension fork?
yes
Suntour are the only forks I've seen that use gear oil in the air chamber, it might still work on other air forks though
The lower thread on the rebound side seems to have been crushed. What should I do?

Which Suntour Fork is this?
Thanx It fuking works
I use peanut oil instead of 80w it still works
Is this maintenance for the Suntour NRX also?

do you have to inflate the fork?
i believe yes, if you do what he does on the vid, you basically opened the air chamber and you have to inflate it again after sealing it
May you tell me what a music played on this video?
Portsonar - Plastico-
What does it mean there " seal the top cap"? Is it just grease or a sealant? thanks.
+daniel francis debe ser grasa a base de silicona
gracias

I use fork oil 10w and work pretty well
it works? I've some 15wt rockshox oil and if you say that it works I'm going to use it instead of buying new oil
exelente video
My fork psi is 100 then after 72 hrs its decreased ito 60 psi what can I do to fix my fork problem
Change the seals inside
@ProxyBeatmaker The seal could be used. Or open the fork clean the parts in the air side .

my front shocks only allow me to go to 70psi why is this
What if gear oil (80W) leaks "down" the fork and leaks through 5mm alley screw ?
no way that can happen

Omg. This is only to seal the air chamber. It doesn't act like a lubricant for lags.
what does he use to seal ? is it grease?
It looks like silicone but I'd use lithium grease.
And not to forget: use FORKoil not GEARoil.
