13:14 Continuity Correction! Twilight froze *four* ponies, not *six* ! She had no need to freeze herself, and Pinkie was not present at that time. Tiny detail, I know, but one that I correct every time I hear it.
Nice that you mentioned the legendary Hatfield-McCoy feud in your video, Silver Quill. It was great to see that both families were able to end the feud and make peace, both in the episode, and with the Hatfields and McCoys.
Even though I'm no longer part of the fandom I still love watching the brony analysis videos. They always bring a smile to my face and remind me of the good ol days of the fandom. Thank you for lasting this long.
13:30 actually, there was an *continuity* error, I would have like you to point it out: The only ponys Twilight freezes in Castlemania were Rarity, Rainbow, AJ and Fluttershy. So, there weren´t 6 ponys but just 4.
You know, when Silver was naming the books where animals die, I was surprised that he didn’t say Where the Red Fern Grows cause THAT makes grown men cry
Ok... Couple of things. One, I love how when they're called to do a map mission? The marks go out. When they've completed the quest? The marks go in. Secondly, there's the point that it's not just the people who are in need who need to learn the lesson but one half of the team both in season 5 & 6. Thirdly? I like how the map picks the ponies by who'd be able to fix the real problem; aj showing small kindnesses to get people interested in a play while rarity works with Coco, pinkie helps Gilda with her scones while rd is still stewing on her issues, and fluttershy getting the full story about both sides. "If twilight had used her magic to fix the park, it wouldn't have fixed the real problem." *MAGIC OR THE SO CALLED OBVIOUS ANSWER WOULDN'T HAVE FIXED THE REAL PROBLEM*
This episode also taps into what I think is Twilight's biggest weakness- her lack of perception. She always tends to stick to one path and is single minded at times. Heck even Starlight mentions this in S5 finale, "You're so predictable." And she is, unfortunately. Yeah I got the Wuthering Heights reference too, but since I never read the book (I know major plot points) I never made the connection of the story's layout. I don't know what it is about the Bronte sisters to write these sad stories. At least Jane Eyre had a happy ending lol.
Sliver you said in 2018 you would Review Friendship Games where is it? Although the last review was all the way back at the beginning of July. So it’s nice to see a new review!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rognik, when he said it Equestria Girls review it was clearly a joke but when he mentioned that joke again recently it really did sound like the review was happening in 2018.
Wooo! Hooray, new video! What a lovely little pre-Turkey Day gift! Having this done must make your coming weekend all the more relaxing. So glad the hard drive snafu didn't mess you up too bad. I loved the history lesson with Wuthering Heights, the Hatfields and McCoys, and the Disney cartoon! I generally liked this episode when it aired. I recall being glad they didn't reduce the conflict to something, well, super-petty like Big Daddy McColt never remembering to put the toilet seat up--assuming they even have those out here...Forget I brought it up. As for your take on the characters--I have to admit, I don't really see Twilight's use of her title as an expression of ego. To me it seems more of a burden for her; something she forces herself to try to live up to and creates unrealistic standards for herself. She sees herself with a title she associates first and foremost with Celestia, who she's put on a certain pedestal. That requires a ridiculously high standard for her to try to live up to. Maybe I misunderstood your point. When you bring up her ego, it sounds as though you're suggesting Twilight's thinking: "I am a Princess therefore I am perfect!" You had a similar take in "What About Discord?" I never got that vibe from Twilight, here or in any other episode. To me, it feels more like "I'm a Princess, Princesses are perfect, so I have to BE perfect." One is a self-congratulatory pat on the back. The other is putting an impossible challenge on yourself that you're terrified of failing, which is far more sympathetic and sounds a lot more like Twilight. As for Fluttershy--while her animal rescue skills are praiseworthy, it feels like her contribution to the mission was just her animal-speaking powers. That makes it less about Fluttershy as a character and more about a particular knack she has. That suggests that if another character such an ability, they could have taken Fluttershy's place on the mission and done as good a job if not better. The same is true for Twilight's magic now that I think about it. I think this map mission was a little weaker since the solution seemed to center less on their particular personalities or outlooks, and more on the specific "powers" they brought with them. I much prefer episodes like "Top Bolt" where the map characters are using their own unique views, personalities and experience to solve the problem, not their "powers" as such. Thanks for another awesome review! Now, to the supplement! *Cue Batman transition signal!*
I felt it necessary to watch the main video before the supplemental, as usual. Also, house rules; it's only funny until the hippogriff gets mobbed by the petting zoo... And then it gets even funnier.
... I love how you shamelessly do what you do and your commentary is amazing. As a college student I come back to your videos all the time to try and add depth to my stories and work. I love what you pull from the episodes of this cute show. Keep being awesome! I hope that made sense.
You mention a lot that Fluttershy could be more poweful than Celestia, and it got me thinking. If we go on what Rarity said and assume to become a princess you must do a great princess worthy deed, wouldn't Fluttershy reforming Discord fit that. Discord was a very powerful enemy of Equestria that was feared for thousands of years, and she got him to embrace friendship. It's funny to think what could have happened if Fluttershy became a princess instead of Twilight
Fluttershy's role in this episode reminded me a bit of international aid organizations, coming in to provide humanitarian assistance to civilians caught in the crossfire of a military conflict.
Nothing makes me smile more than the thought that fluttershy accidentally read pet cemetery thinking it was about looking after pets only to be scarred mentally
You know, Disney also did a short for a House of Mouse episode which used the opposing hills idea. And I'm pretty sure it's been used elsewhere too. Not sure who started it, but it's a pretty convenient image.
This is actually the third. There was also the Veggie Tales episode of Filberoloo and Gerberdylat. A mix of this conflict and the Good Samaritan, where they threw Pots and shoes at each other.

6:53 You ain't whistling Dixie Silver Quill. The famous also stoked tension from the Civil War as both Kentucky and W. Virginia were border states that saw pro Union and pro Confederate in fighting. The Hatfields were from a pro Confederate part of Kentucky and likwise being in W. Virgina the McCoy's were pro Union with the eldest son serving in the Yankee Army and several Hatfields serving as Rebel Brigands. The war carried over into the fued and with tensions still high after the war and the Federal Govt still concentrating on rebuilding the Southern states the feud nearly provoked a states war between Kentucky and W. Virginia. Militias were being prepped to face off against one another on Hatfield and McCoy lands and only the threat of intervention from Washington DC stopped any cross State raids. Some believe the feud was the final battle of the war abd it did inspire the Hayes administration to take a more councilatory tactic with the southern states and admit them back into the Union. Sorry just showing off as you can tell by my avatar. 😋
I don't think that conflict specifically played a role in the Hayes administration's decision to bring the Southern States back, by that point only three were still under federal control (Louisiana, Florida, South Carolina). And most northern politicians had lost interest in intervening in governmental affairs in the South, viewing them as hopelessly corrupt. They were turning their attention to the West, and to big city machine politics (a.k.a what historians dub "The Gilded Age"). There is also debate among historians as to whether or not the Hayes administration had any kind of deal to end Reconstruction, or if that was something Hayes did regardless of the circumstances under which he took office.
And at the time the episode aired, I still thought the Hatfields and McCoys were family history; Great-Great-Grandpa Jonathan had _claimed_ to be a nephew of Devil Anse Hatfield who had tried to warn the latter, You're being screwed over on this deal. According to the account, Great-Great-Grandpa had gotten a slap and a don't-contradict-your-elders and had lit out for Mississippi. Nnnnope! Turns out that he [Great-Great-Grandpa] was, for whatever reason, not on the level about his backstory; his true backstory is not reconstructable at this late date.
I've read Pride & Prejudice & Zombies; it was a interesting read seeing how a zombie apocalypse would be handled in that time period and with Jane Austen's characters. There's a sequel and prequel book as well plus the same author wrote Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters

HOLY CRAP I READ WUTHETING HEIGHTS A COUPLE YEARS AGO AND NEVER NOTICED EVERYTHING U SAID ABOUT THIS EPISODE AND THE BOOK!!!!!

I for one am disappointed. The title card referenced the screaming cowboy meme, yet I never heard the scream anywhere in the video.
For real though, glad to see a video again!
another awesome episode, Silver Quill! always appreciate your insight. _and_ all the effort that must go into producing these videos.
Anyone want some cooked turkey?
Hey Silver Quill would you mind checking the pilot light in the oven?
Sooooo, now that MLP has touched back in with the castle of the two sisters, what happened to all your upgrades?
I consider this to be an alright episode.
