  • BRANDENBURG: "Nobody will probably believe me now! I don't want to!" CDU general loses his temper
FDP Vice-President Wolfgang Kubicki has given the coalition government with the SPD and the Greens only a few weeks to solve fundamental problems in economic and migration policy. "There are completely different views on how to get the economy going again and restore competitiveness. And either we actually manage to find a reasonable common denominator here in the next 14 days, three weeks, or it no longer makes sense for the Free Democrats to continue to participate in this coalition," Kubicki said on Sunday on "Welt TV".
There is no way to sugarcoat the FDP's results in the state elections in Thuringia, Saxony and now in Brandenburg. Three times in a row by one percent means "that the Free Democrats are marginalized." But he also referred to the Greens' performance and said: "People are fed up with the traffic light coalition."
For the FDP and its voters, the traffic light coalition and the Greens are toxic. But the party does not need to pull the plug immediately. He said: "The decisions will be made this autumn and I do not believe that, given its current performance, this coalition will make it to Christmas."
Kubicki accused the Greens of ignoring reality in migration policy. Kubicki said: "The AfD has not become strong because it is so great, but because we, because the traffic light coalition, also fail in migration policy."
Meanwhile, CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann spoke of a "bitter defeat" after his party's losses in the state elections in Brandenburg. There had been polarization for weeks on the question of whether to vote for the AfD or the SPD with Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke at the helm, Linnemann said on ZDF. Many CDU voters then said: "In this case, I'll vote for the SPD."
Linnemann paid tribute to Woidke, saying he had put everything on the line and won. "This is what credibility looks like." Linnemann stressed that the CDU had "the best poll results" at the federal level. This will be discussed separately.
With regard to the fact that Woidke had also received support from Saxony's CDU Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer during the election campaign, Linnemann said: "That certainly didn't help, to put it mildly." In response to a question on ARD, Linnemann said he did not believe that a drunken drive by Brandenburg's CDU top candidate Jan Redmann on an e-scooter had done much damage to the CDU.
In the interview, Linnemann is clear about the federal government! He is calling for new elections. He says: "We need a vote of confidence. We need new elections!"
