    Ginny fate hit really hard, especially for me as a woman reader. Of course any gender can be the victim of sexual assault, man or woman. But with woman, we got warned and told horrific stories of woman victim.
    I felt bad for Kuma, but I terrified with the fate of Ginny. And her still have the courage to carry and love a child that come from a tragic experience. She is brave abd she will never be forgotten

      we also have a natural instinct to protect us, so its on a level biological. When I got to the age of 13 and puberty was really hitting me how it effected me is out of no where a sudden fear of males. There is a reason why we as a whole throughout the world tend to be cautious, its not just socialization.

      @@tulip5210its only natural to have some fear. Luckly this is also why we have natural insticts against it. Fear of dark, hesitancy with strangers. Even men have very primal reaction too protected against other men ussing force on woman.

    The way I read the scene of Bonney talking about Sky Islands and Kuma seemingly not knowing about them is how a parent with a young child pretends to be surprised when their child makes a discovery on their own, as it tends to foster their curiosity and desire to learn.

  • @7thlittleleopard7
    @7thlittleleopard7 ปีที่แล้ว +65

    One of the things I noticed is a line Dragon said earlier in the story about not wanting to regret decisions made in the past and thinking about it, he was probably talking about Ginny - not going after her with everything they had at the time led to so much tragedy within their ranks. It makes me wonder if they even knew where Ginny was. Also, Fisher Tiger stormed Mariejois while Ginny was being held but she wasn't one of the ones who managed to escape from that, which is so sad to think about - the opportunity was there but she was probably either kept in a place they couldn't reach or pregnant and thus protected more than usual. :

    • @nasifhossain8549
      @nasifhossain8549 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      But this isn’t possible. Because if revs knew about Ginny's location at least Kuma would have gone there without thinking anything. As we are seeing Kuma's memory and there was stated some mysterious people kidnapped Ginny. That means they didn’t know who it was. And as a Revolutionary there are many enemies they had to face. Like former kings that they overthrew, pirates, Marine and then World govt. So they can't even speculate who they were. It is not like their only enemy is world govt

    • @Suto_Ko
      @Suto_Ko ปีที่แล้ว +9

      It's definitely possible that Dragon is talking about Ginny when he says that he doesn't want to regret decisions made in the past. It's also possible that the Revolutionary Army didn't know where Ginny was being held when Fisher Tiger stormed Mariejois.
      It's a tragic thought that Ginny wasn't able to escape from Mariejois with the other slaves. It's possible that she was kept in a place that the Revolutionary Army couldn't reach, or that she was too pregnant to travel. It's also possible that she was simply unlucky.
      Whatever the reason, Ginny's continued imprisonment in Mariejois is a testament to the cruelty of the World Government. It's also a reminder of the high stakes involved in the fight for freedom.
      I'm curious to see if Oda will ever reveal what happened to Ginny. I'm also interested to see how Dragon's past will affect his future actions.

    • @johnathanwhite4626
      @johnathanwhite4626 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think Fisher Tiger had rescued the slaves a year before her imprisonment. But it is still extremely sad to think if things went differently, maybe Ginny and Kuma could have re-united.

    • @Suto_Ko
      @Suto_Ko ปีที่แล้ว +5

      yup, Fisher Tiger rescued the slaves from Mary Geoise a year before Ginny was imprisoned. It is indeed a sad thought that Ginny and Kuma could have reunited if things had gone differently.
      Their story is a tragic reminder of the cost of war and oppression. It is also a reminder of the power of love and hope. Even in the darkest of times, there is always the possibility of a better future.
      I am grateful to Oda for telling this story. It is an important story that needs to be heard. I hope that it will inspire people to fight for a better world, where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.

    I actually absolutely fucking LOVE the theory about the Emerald City just being a regular city but filled with the bodies of the Scale disease. How absolutely horrifying that would be. If its true that this disease originates or mostly effects Celestial Dragons, then that might mean the City was either destroyed, or it was abandoned and cut off from the world some how. Maybe the remnants of the Emerald city are somewhere in the ocean. PERHAPS it may even be on the moon and its one of the reasons they originally came to the planet afterward.

  • @theduelist92

    I genuinely like the fact that they didn't even try to save Jinny.
    Rescue missions are a tired cliché in shonen series (thanks Bleach) and the main 2 problems are that: 1 they end up in success 99% of the time because it's the one thing you can't fail and 2 they usually disregard the logic behind theyr own series, taking the "i'd do anything for my friends" a bit too lightly.
    It makes sense that a relatively new Revolutionary Army didn't straight up declare war on the WG, i mean only in recent times Dragon was confident enough in theyr position to actually declare war, and when you combine 1 and 2 you will be breaking consistency in your worldbuilding.
    Also i genuinely wasn't sure if Oda choose a powerful but questionable style for some of the panels or if he was forced to release an incomplete chapter xD

      @Suto_Ko ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I agree with you lol. I think it was refreshing to see the Revolutionary Army not even try to save Jinny. It shows that they are a realistic organization that understands the risks involved in taking on the World Government.
      It's also interesting to see how Oda is handling the pacing of the story. He's taking his time to develop the characters and the world, and I think that's a good thing. It makes the story feel more grounded and believable.
      As for the art style, I think Oda was going for a more powerful and expressive look. He wanted to convey the emotional impact of the situation, and I think he succeeded.
      And, I think this chapter was a great example of how Oda is evolving as a writer and artist. He's not afraid to take risks and try new things, and I think that's what makes One Piece such a unique and special series.

    Looking back its's easy to see now why Kuma "saved" Perona (alone of all of Moria's minions) at Thriller Bark by asking her "if you could take a vacation, where would you go?". Another young pink-haired girl who loved a bear. Also would love to know how Bonney got the Age-Age fruit which if used correctly is one of the most broken devil fruits in all of OP (we've even seen how Bonney can use it to make alternate future/past versions of herself and the Straw Hats - which makes means millions of possibilities). Did Vegapunk give it to her? I doubt the Celestial Dragons did.

  • @KittSpiken
    @KittSpiken ปีที่แล้ว +3

    You know a tragedy's hitting when the reader's immediate response is to stop reading and try to pick apart the motivations or come up with some happy ever after fan-fic. The flashback isn't even over and it's the most tragic backstory in One Piece: unlike every other backstory, Kuma makes decisions as an adult that shape the tragedy that befalls him.
    Kuma refusing Ginny's proposal appears to be the same self-sacrificial drive motivating his actions prior, but is fundamentally different: while the previous actions were acts of love, denying Ginny is a denial of love, motivated by feat, it is Kuma succumbing to his tragic flaw.
    The subtext of the reprieve panels of his family being taken from the beginning of the flashback was Kuma seeing his family with Ginny. Immediately. She says "lets get married" he sees her holding their child. "But..." the fear of repeating what happened to his family after his birth hardened his heart. In pushing her away he was sacrificing his family, not himself. He thought to hide her away somewhere safe, which obviously wasn't going to happen, highlighted in her immediately signing up with the Revolutionary Army, because of course she would. And when his greatest fear comes to pass, the fear he sacrificed his family, *their* family for, it was far worse than he dared imagine: because he was not there to protect Ginny when she needed him, Ginny was enslaved alone and his daughter was a product of profound suffering instead of love.
    Cap it off with Ginny inverting and righting his disordered sacrifice, sacrificing herself for her family; so that Bonney could be raised in a loving home and her love in turn healing the wounds Kuma kept open, festering on his heart.
    And it's not even over (though it's focus seems to be transitioning from Kuma's backstory to Bonney's)
    Really messed up my afternoon.

    She was forced to stay inside and by that he basically prevented her to run away,
    or on the other hand if she tried to run away at least she would have died and therefore couldn't be with someone else.
    Win - win for the CD.

      I agree with you that Luffy will be rescuing Bonnie and Kuma. It makes sense from a story perspective, and it would be a great way to develop both characters.
      Kuma is a complex and tragic figure. He was once a kind and compassionate man, but he was forced to become a cyborg in order to protect his family. He has done many terrible things in his life, but he has also done many good things. Rescuing Bonnie would be a chance for Kuma to redeem himself and to show the world that he is still a good person.
      I also agree with you that the manuscript drawings are intentional. Oda is a master of foreshadowing, and he often uses small details to hint at future events. The fact that he has included manuscript drawings of Bonnie and Kuma suggests that he has something big planned for these characters.

    English is not even my second language, so sorry for my bad english...
    My theory is, sapphire scale has something to do with Boa devil fruit because she can turn people into stone. Maybe Saturn do some sick experiment with her devil fruit when she is a slave... And because of that, I think Saturn is Bonney biological father... Because Saturn is in God valley when God valley incident is happening, I think when Ginny got captured he want her to be punish because she is the slave that in God valley.
    My next theory is about how Bonney survive, I think Kuma bring Bonney to Vegapunk to get treated but it's to late for him to save her, and that's how Bonney fruit come from, WG gift Bonney the fruit so she can de aged herself to get treated but in retun Kuma become warlord and pacifista for WG.
    Edit: I just realise what if the reason Ginny not get rescued by Revolution army is because She is Saturn Bride? Attacking Marajois is suidical enough, but attacking marajois and gorosei?! And with their power 15 years ago? Yeah that's absolutley impossible task... And I think that's why Dragon cannot save her... He is smarter than Luffy or Garp. Luffy & Garp is the type that action first, think latter. While Dragon is the opposite type.

    Imagine how galling that situation was for Ginny. You're a revolutionary commander, tasked with liberating the world from tyranny, but your thoughts are on the man you love, only for one of those monsters to kidnap you, forcibly marry you, and r*pe you - literally soiling all your ideals, hopes and dreams, and discard you when he's done with you - along with the child he's sired. It only makes me respect Kuma even more: He could've blamed Bonney for Ginny's death, or treated her like she symbolised a mockery of her, but he chose to honour his lover's final wish, saw a child in need and took her as her own.
    I think Oda is really hammering in that it's not who you were born to: it's your choices that make you who you are.

    What if Bonney is genetically modified. To remove the disease Vegapunk had to remove the infected blood(CD blood) and to enable for Bonney to survive Vegapunk needed someone who is sturdy and thus Vegapunk needed a Buccaneer which is Kuma.

    Something I haven’t seen discussed is the parallel between Klap’s and Ginny’s deaths.
    Embracing the sun (god) proves fatal for both, and traumatizes Kuma in turn, yet he maintains a positive/celebratory relation with the very things that caused their deaths - the Nika dance and the sapphire scales. It’s hard to fathom what kind of mental strength/toll it takes to bear so much tragedy while remaining a light for others.
    In wondering what separates Kuma from being like Nika to being Nika, a significant factor seems to be how he never afforded himself the freedom he granted others. He not only took on others burdens as his own, but forsook his own dream/happiness. To put another way, when fear of retribution overshadowed his hopes for the future, he became a pillar that took darkness from others without bringing light to them. The kind face that once eased others slowly transformed into an emotionless void that instilled fear.
    Without a doubt, Kuma is One Piece’s greatest martyr who paved the path for Nika’s return. The selfless hero who Luffy would love, as we all do now, but would never wish to be.

    My thoughts & opinions of the chapter:
    1. When seeing what happened to Ginny & how Bonney was born, I now wonder if the next chapter will be the last one of Kuma's flashback, which may lead to how he met Vegapunk & why he allowed him to be the mindless weapon we know him today!
    2. When seeing the World Nobles do something like that to Ginny, we definitely need Dragon and/or Kuma to come to Egghead & vanquish Saturn for good!
    3. I don't mind whether or not Kuma is Bonney's real father. But I do wonder if Bonney will truly be spared from the same fate the Celestial Dragons will eventually receive.

  • @lokiwiFruit
    @lokiwiFruit ปีที่แล้ว

    Good points. My thoughts on the RA now being able to gun for Ginny goes into a few things.
    They were only able to go into the World Nobels area because of the meeting providing distraction. Adding to this they sent in a powerhouse of humans to even recon for Kuma, which turned into a rescue when they spotted him. So it leads me to believe that it's just too much of battle where they trade a bulk of the army for one person, So it comes into a Star Trek "needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few or the one."
    I think Kuma fights so hard in the chapter to end the battle as soon as possible. Then he can get to Ginny sooner.
    Just subscribed, loved that this popped up in my feed.

    It's fitting that Brook was used to break fourth wall and apologize for not having full chapters for the Kuma flashback. His flashback story is the longest and one of the most tragic before Kuma's was told. It takes place over the course of 50+ years, not counting the 38 that he was alive and his death at the hands of poison weapons. Hearing your friends dying all around you, knowing you will never reach home, and then coming back to life as a skeleton and living alone on a "floating coffin ship"... I can't think of much lonelier or generally worser fates than that.

    The disease reminds me of Kaido, blue in colour and scales, so i wonder if it is some kind of lineage factor enhancement that went terribly wrong. Judge and Queen's knowledge combined maybe invented by Saturn. Would tie into Vegapunk being disappointed at the pink colour of his artificial dragon fruit. It also reminds me of trolls with Elbaf coming up (hopefully) they are German/Norse mythological creatures that turn to stone in sunlight. Dressrosa also had 3 of them in the story, Trebol, Diamante and Pica. That arc also had a questionable relationship between an ex- celestial dragon and a innocent woman.

  • @smurfx
    @smurfx ปีที่แล้ว +1

    about the disease. could it really just be that its a vampire celestial? we already have yokai elder stars so would it really be crazy if a celestial that is closely tied to vampirism? like what if the originators of the world government are all monster descendants who came from somewhere else and basically took over the world? the void century was the monsters blocking out the sun and allowing them to run crazy and basically kill a huge segment of the original inhabitants of the one piece world. also as to why kuma is known as a tyrant. i'm thinking that the king ends up killing the old people and kuma is blamed for it. in his rage kuma kills the king and the story is changed to kuma killing the king and the people in order to be king.

    I'm 1000% certain that the "experience gems" that fell out of Vegapunk's head are conected to Vegapunk's devil fruit and not Bonnie's. If the experience gems came from Bonnie using her power, then we would have seen them whenever Bonnie deaged people, but instead we've only seen them with Vegapunk. If Vegapunk's devil fruit works by producing experience gems to hold all his knowledge, then this would explain why his head keeps growing.

    As far as them not trying to save Ginny, I also understand that as they werent as strong then as they are now, and risking the entire revolution to save a single commander( no matter how beloved they are) is reckless. Heck Ivan and a few others spent years in Impel Down being tortured, and the revolutionaries didnt bother trying to rescue them.

    The theory of Saturn being Bonney biological father does have some merit considering sapphire is associated with the planet Saturn.
    Which in a weirdly ironic way you would have Bonney fight her birth father in or to rescue who she views as her true father the battle of dads
    But on a more serious not it would make some sense Saturn seems to really hate kuma from the god valley flashback to ordering vegapunk to get rid of his memory use and making him a cyborg and slave I would not be surprised if it was Saturn that kidnapped Ginny and had Bonney get rid of her to hide the fact a gorosei had the sapphire disease.

    Great video. Just the only thing that is bothering me tho is people saying misleading things that "Bonney is 12". That's not really true. She would be 12 if she had no fruit, or just never uses it on herself. But throughout the majority of the story, we see her when she's an adult in her 20s. Having the age-age fruit literally ages her up physically AND mentally. So like when you mentioned who would "look after her" now, that's kinda not necessary because she isn't a child (unless she purposefully ages herself back down to one). She's in her 20s in every sense and she's fully capable of being on her own. That's how I imagine she even became a supernova in the first place. A 10 year old kid is not doing that, however aging herself to a 22 year old and getting a 100 mil bounty makes a lot more sense.

    With the revelation of the royal knights, the breaking out of Fisher tiger a few years before, it’s logical that the security tightened. The revolutionary army was most likely not in position to go into full blown war with the world government. Not to mention that yes, the RA went on a rescue mission to save Kuma, but it wasn’t attempted until the Reverie, when the security would be separated and easer for RA to intrude.

    Oda pulled no punches with this one.
    Although there is one gripe: i get why dragon did not mount a mission to rescue Ginny as they were doomed to fail in the early states of the revolutionaries,
    Except for the fact that Kuma can teleport himself and others near instantly! Kuma could honestly have poped across the holyland a couple times till he found her,
    Still a great tragic chapter but i feel Oda could have limeted Kumas powers in the past to make it add up a bit more

    The reason them not even trying to rescue her probably because they know they will get all of them killed at that time when they're not strong enough. But man, I think that incident really punching them in the guts real hard, and along side with kuma the rest of them is not really gonna just sit there hihi haha laugh it off from that incident. WHICH, lead to the present days, that they refuse to let any of their comrade behind and literally go after the government base and rescue kuma, it's probably because of ginny incident that they're now like this.

    9:15 that doesn't make sense kuma spent all that time with bonney who also had it and didnt get it himself. its probably not contagious. if anything ginny was probably purposefully given the disease (Before or when she was pregnant with bonney). Also think that she eventually contracted Stockholm because she knew that shed probably never see the outside world again so she probably made herself acceot her fate and maybe actually "fall in love."
