    Great video as usual m.r Pierce. I´m a big fan of you but this is the first time i see that you´r a master instructor for 8 agencies , it´s just amazing . You should probably do a serie about that part. It would be great to give som detailed tips from an experienced instructor perspective and i´m sure that you have a lot of stories to talk about.

    Sometimes you have to disconnect and connect under water. For example if your inflate button gets stuck. So you cannot actually turn the air off at that moment. Is there any trick to connect the LPI under pressure ?

    • @robertharrison4387
      @robertharrison4387 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could probably push the deflate button as you are trying to reconnect the LPI hose. Just an idea, I’ve never tried it.

    • @seikibrian8641
      @seikibrian8641 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@robertharrison4387 I don't think that will work, because the deflate button routes air out of the BCD bladder, not the LP hose. Pressing the INFLATE button might help a little, but then you'd also go negatively buoyant. When I took my OW course we had to practice connecting and disconnecting underwater, and I found that I just had to press both parts together very firmly while inhaling deeply, and then immediately exhaling to stay neutral.

      It can happen on a dive where the LPI leaks air into the BC (slowly or quickly). Disconnecting u/w is early as it pops out.
      Re-connecting the LPI under pressure on the surface and u/w uses the same effort so practice helps. My trick would be to get a good grip on the LPI hose with 3 fingers, thumb and forefinger pull the connector back and PUSH with both hands together before releasing the connector then give a reasonable tug to ensure its fully locked.

      I’ve had the lpi hose come of in a dive and good thing I have a dry suit so I had instant buoyancy. It’s really hard to get the lpi hose back on under pressure underwater. If you push the hose fitting back on as far as you can get it on the bcd and push the inflate button on your bcd, the fitting gets sucked on back into place as air goes into the bcd. Practice it a few times on land first with your system pressurised so you don’t panic if it happens underwater

    There is one other thing, that might keep you from connecting the hoses: They don't allways fit. There are two types of inflator connections, the "normal" one an the so called "CEJN" connection.
    And i also have one combination of a hose and an inflator (both with the normal connector) that only fit with a lot of force. I guess this is due to slightly exceeded size tolerances.

    • @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter
      @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The CEJN connector is a new attempt to simplify todays standard DIN and Schrader valve connector. The new CEJN has issues to fix (from my online reading), in that it is possible to freeflow when not connected, costs more and is not internationally accepted (so far). Like many items in scuba, there is always new ideas coming and some take a while to work out all the bugs before becoming a 'standard' (like singe hose regs). Thanks for watching.

    Any tips for the LPI with a drysuit? You usually have the pressure on when you're at the point that you connect that LPI. Mine's a real bitch to get it to click when the pressure is on.

    • @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter
      @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try attaching the LPI hose first to the BCD, see the effort to connect with pressure on. Then repeat on the dry suit connector. The connection effort should be the same. If not, try re-lubing the LPI hose with food grade silicone. If really hard, try a replacement LPI hose (borrow one first) to see its easer. There should be no noticeable effort difference when connecting LPI's to different devices.

    Hey, I have the opportunity to go to a diving school that will provide me with a professional level education in around 8 months. I was wondering as a professional diver what is your experience with said programs and the people that come out of the programs?

    • @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter

      Glad your interested in going commercial diving, it is hard but can be rewarding with the right mindset. Today's training is totally different from my 'stone age' training and diving. Let me offer some real world advice. Look today's job market for commercial divers as it may not change in 8 to 12 months due to COVID and the slow economy. Like any profession, time, practice and a willingness to learn and a love for what you do makes the difference. Good luck.

      I'd like to resume my "Vintage Scuba" playlist but COVID has limited our video shootings. We are both at risk and agreed to limit travel and videos for the rest of 2021. Kevin and I have been meeting every 3 months vs monthly and releasing videos bi-weekly instead of weekly to give viewers like you something to keep interested in. I also plan to resume my "Sea Hunt Forever" playlist some day. Stay safe my friend.

    My problem is getting it to let go of the BCD inflator hose here lately. I goes on great, but after the dive and we got home, we had a time getting our new to us sherwood regulator to release from the seaelite BCD... After about 15, or maybe closer to 20 minutes it came off. Planing on trying to get a little lube in it and see if that helps.

    • @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter

      Sounds like the 3 small balls inside the connector are dirty. Watch S11E09 Power Inflator Service for ideas on cleaning so your not straining the hose when disconnecting. Take care.

      @@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter thanks. I will look up the episode tonight. I'm fairly sure it could use a good cleaning. It was made in 1995, and I'm willing to bet that was the last time it was really cleaned (outside of getting a good rinse after a dive hahaha) I appreciate it.

    You can get the "hose hats", they help. And you can also get a fitting that locks open when disconnected so you don't have to pull it back to connect.

    • @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter
      @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hose hats may solve one problem but be careful, it could push against the BC hose causing a air leak. Test it to ensure it the quick disconnect is smooth and remember to clean under it after dives.
