As someone who wasn’t very familiar with Magdalena Bay prior to this record I was pleasantly surprised. This is genuinely so refreshing and boundary pushing at the same time. A perfect example of what a unique pop record should sound like. Pop doesn’t mean basic, pop can be so much more than just radio tunes. Had the album on repeat since it released!

first time i listened to this album i was just laughing manically. I just couldnt believe that an album could combine all of these things that i love about music.
I tried to listen to it on a road trip and I realized pretty quickly it wasn't really clicking on the road and I would have to listen to it later. That was a fantastic idea because I truly was able to appreciate what I was hearing then, and it was fantastic.
Haha same! I listened to it three times in a row on different headphones at night after having a couple drinks and was just laughing and walking around my apartment flipping out. Absolutely wild album. AOTY no question.
For real! Love how they used the same chorus from She Looked Like Me but enhanced it even more on The Ballad of Matt & Mica to make it sound even more impactful.
The fact that he's wearing a let's start here hoodie, probably without knowing that they worked on that album with yachty which he had a pretty similar reaction to that project as well is so cool
The duo were actually part of a prog rock band before forming magdalena bay i believe, which really is reflected with the more prog elements on this record
This is all from my own brain & opinion but if you listen throughout the album it tells a whole story from the perspective of one person who’s been split into two parts. One part being the purest best form of everything you are, the “true blue” part of you with the villain being the cosmic entity of “time” as time changes everyone and everything, throughout the album you can hear time laughing as you listen as you are “killing time”…. Imaginal Disc is found in larva before the undergo metamorphosis, similar to a caterpillar & butterfly. We as Humans all go through various ‘changes’ in our lives and this album represents how to deal with that. From change in relationships, becoming your own image, to death & romance. It’s quite genius in my opinion cause music itself is “timeless”
I was such a huge fan of Mercurial World but it went under the radar, but now I'm glad it's getting its flowers as AOTY from music communities and of course hopefully KEVIN

This album was an orchestra of synths. I'm so happy you found them, I've been a fan of them since Neon in 2019 and their minimixes as well. Ive been listening to MB since 2018 when I was a junior in HS. They are an artist I am thankful enough to have learned from an online friend back them and they been my top 10 favorite artists of all time ever since. Set Me Off is the song I always recommend to others as it’s my favorite. They deserve the world with their unique take on music.

I don't want to ever hear that this album is overrated again. I understand if you don't personally dig it, but it's by no means overrated. To be honest, this album reminded me why I love music in the first place.
This is easily one of the best albums of this decade so far. It's just so beautifully crafted and has some of the most wonderful production I've heard on any pop album in a while.
Been listening to this group since 2018 or so. The music back then was good but they have only progressed with each album. Ethereal. Dancey. A true treat for the ears.
I had exactly the same reaction listening to this album pretty much, and left feeling the same way afterwards. Just... wow. blown away, speechless I had heard a couple songs from them before off of Mercurial World which I loved and got me wanting to sing and dance and get out of my seat every time I played them. Then I was strongly recommended this album so I played it from the beginning and (without really planning to) ended up listening to the whole thing in one sitting. Going in I knew they made great music but it was still so far beyond my expectations, every moment of it was perfect. And somehow its grown on me even since then! It just gets better with every listen as I notice more and more details, and I don't think I'm going to run out soon lol. Every track is immaculately crafted and layered with so much fantastic instumentation and ear candy. I agree with Kevin, I don't know what the last time I felt like this listening to an album was really. I think for that reason it really might be AOTY for me, and I'm very glad you guys loved this so much and had an amazing time listening to it too
