Anytime I do a 10+ hour day of riding it takes me back to those first months of motorcycling when I would take such trips often just to spend as much time as I could on the bike. It makes me nostalgic for a younger back, more energy, and the novelty of riding not having diminished in the slightest. Looking forward to the San Francisco DGR this Sunday and a full day on my Bonneville. Cheers Freddie!

You’re so lucky to get the keys to the Norton Commando, Freddy. There are not all that many of them being produced, and those cost a pretty penny. They are not offered at all here in the USA. I would sell all 3 of my bikes and take a risk financially if I could have a Norton Commando for my last bike go-round but there is no chance of that opportunity even being available. At any rate, I am thankful that Norton chose to put you, one who is so eloquent and enthusiastic, on the bike to convey the essence and spirit of it to us all.

I did the RBLR1000 a few years back on a W800 after only about 4 hours sleep. To be honest one of the most painful things I’ve ever done, the only thing that kept me going was a ton of ibuprofen, standing on the pegs for a while to get my blood flowing back into my arse and the thought that if our service men and women can do what they do for us the least I could do was sit on a bike for a few hours for them. Won’t be doing it again tho lol!

    *Roads less travelled*
Last Saturday I rode from South Warwickshire to The New Forest.
South of Oxford the A34 was closed forcing me to "seek an alternative route". With no satnav I followed my nose and WOW! What a selection of country lanes I encountered, the pick of the choice being the B4494 between Wantage and Newbury. I finally ended up in Brockenhurst, and after a break to stretch my legs I continued on to Lymington Quay...what a fabulous place to watch the world go by for an hour or two. Heading home I took a circuitous route back through The New Forest taking 4 hours to get back home, but again, what a fabulous ride.
Incidentally, my Honda NC750X returned a mighty 91mpg over the 318 miles I covered.

I feel your pain Freddie, I once rode a Harley 883 flat tracker replica from Bilbao on Spains north coast to Nerja on the south coast, 750 miles in 13 hours. The pain and discomfort becomes all consuming.

It’s like riding a sport bike long distance, it’s really an achievement. You can’t imagine the pain until you do it.

That last 2 hours must have been tough... I love a day ride. But usually only about 250-300km for me. An hour on "b roads" 2 or 3 hours in the forest, dirt tracks, ferns and mud.. then an hour home... And that last hour can be tough (on the new old RE scram 411)... 13 hours on a Norton! Well done indeed. Muzatron from Geelong Victoria OZ

I did NY to Cape Cod (about 4.5 hrs) on a TT600 once and it wasn't too bad. I didn't have to ride back the same day though. :)

I know that pain when you still have hours to go. Went to the Island last year from South Coast on the 996 SPS, that was also not built for comfort and it rained all the way back.
Great to see you so loose and relaxed on the bike and hanging off a bit in corners. It will help the bike stability mid corner if you position your head above the hand on the inside of the turn rather than what most people do is position the head on the opposite side.

Bikes are there to be ridden and the Norton seems like an expensive ornament unfortunately.

I agree. Think it's going to be a 'no' from Freddie! £17k plus you have to budget for the chiropractor after every ride. Looking more like £20k 😂

Great video Freddie and a real test for you here and you kept smiling! Respect!! As for the new Triumph 400's, they've pitched them at a really good pricing point but I'd still rather pay a little extra and go for a RE Interceptor. I think the styling is better and it has the air/oil cooled engine, which sounds nicer than a water cooled engine in my opinion. It also has less to go wrong and doesn't have that water cooled wheezing sound. Just my view.

After spending the day in beautiful Southwold and Cromer it must be a wrench going back to londons concrete jungle. If someone of your age and weight finds a day in the saddle excruciating then theirs no chance you'll get me on that bike that's for sure.

Thoroughly enjoyed your video as always Freddie and I have read other reviews where the comfort of the Commando is singled out for criticism. One could argue that it's a sports bike so comfort isn't a pre-requisite but having owned an early Fireblade, Gpz 600R and CBR600 (also the first models, this was late 80's/early 90's) I never hand that problem with them comfort-wise and I'm a smidge over 6 ft. I despatched on the GPZ and CBR for quite a few years and even nipped home to jump on the Blade for a job I had to Bristol once, obviously I didn't use that as a work bike normally...... I'm not completely insane😁. I did feel for you though doing your stretches in that wood......you should have taken the trusty Monica then strapped the bike to her car roof and driven home 😄. Quickly going back to mileage/distance in a day, and I'm really not digging you out as a lightweight (promise). Around 12 years ago when I was still a working rider, I had already done a morning's town work when my Controller rang me with that fateful phrase 'Alright Charlie, do you want to earn some proper money this afternoon?' Of course I said yes and headed to an office near Lambeth Palace.....Royal Society of can't remember...and picked up a Coventry, Leeds, York and Darlington all booked on seperates i.e. each drop paid individually so "Kerching". This was around 2pm. At 10pm that evening I was at Scotch Corner Services nursing a cup of tea contemplating the 300 mile journey home down the A1. If I had my heated grips on for some reason the headlight would stay on full beam so I got endless (quite rightly tbh!) lorries coming the other way flashing me. I in the end sacrificed my poor frozen paws for an inadequate dipped headlight. To compound my misery the Hatfield Tunnel was shut, so a much wanted detour ensued. Think I got home to Hammersmith at around 3am which was fine because work told me I didn't have to be in until lunchtime (cheers!!). I was on my quite brilliant Transalp 1999 model (best shape) which I actually only sold this very week. Wasn't particularly saddle sore and I was 47 at the time......I'm Cycle Courier now, no chance of ending up in Darlington at 9.30 at night doing that! All the best mate, keep the videos coming it's a great channel ❤.

that was indeed a little funny in the end seeing you suffer. I once had a similar experience going to Dinant Belgium for a 10 h trip and I had neck pain of my life. SO I can relate to it a little :)
