Really goes to show how it’s possible to get through that mental barrier of sight loss. Like many have said before, we adapt and do things a little differently to make it easier for us.
I love this! I will recommend it often. Each person has to figure out what works best for them and educate those around them and request their cooperation. One of the things I love most about interacting with my friends in the blind community is how creative they are at finding solutions that enable them to do what they want without using their sight. I appreciate so much all you share. Blessings.
hey Sam! I love this video, possibly one of my most favorite videos that you have produced. Don’t get me wrong, you have produced a lot of amazing videos. I just love the content with this one. Thank you so much for another awesome video and for everything you’re doing for all of us for a blind or visually impaired. You’re making a huge impact here on TH-cam and in the VI community. Thanks again Sam, you’re awesome! Matt
I lost most of my vision this past year and I have felt so lost and alone. Asking for help does not come easily. Thank you with all of my heart. I feel more hopeful than I have since this began 🥰💕
Great video! As a solution to my food and clothes labelling, I use NFC tags. so I type it into my phone and my phone creates the label on the tag and then I run my phone over the tag and it speaks out to me what the label is. I got the idea from one of your videos, when I was having trouble reading the labels of my clothes for washing and also reading labels for food that I had put away for another day. So thanks for that.
Thanks for your video. I know I have developed systems or ways that I do things that are different than others. I often find that this is a concept that some people don't understand. I have come across the misconception too many times that I can't do anything because I'm legally blind. But that is so far from the truth my sight loss has actually given me the opportunity to think more logically, to be able to think creatively to problem-solve and figure out ways that I can do things. It is giving me the opportunity to change so many I can't in to I can and I accomplished. Thank you for your video and I had to share it on my Facebook
I like how you integrated your own systems! A great introduction to preparing and categorizing, which I found is necessary before actually just jumping in and labeling! My labeling will combine jumbo print labeling with using a ‘pen friend’ or ‘talking label wand’ for spices and medications and over-the-counter products.
Most rehab counselors would want to put them through a bunch of training., which includes finding another typical job.. But you are thinking about creative ways to research and teach him how to put systems in place so he can keep his family business.! Please keep us up to date when he is ready..
Love this (and all your) video. I wear dress shirts to work and can't see the difference between my grey, green, and blue shirts. So, before changing after work I unbutton one or more of the cuff buttons, so I can feel the difference after washing (Right, Left, Both, None). It's all about finding those systems that work.
I love a good system! I count alor to know where something is. I recently labled my essential oils with a letter on the lid. Another big one is assigned spots for stuff. The tricky part with that is when you live with a sighted person who just doesnt pay that much attention to where stuff is.
Hey Sam, I agree that systems are great and everything I’ve been doing this for a little while now not all that long only a couple years and I find that my biggest problem with the systems that I create as my family doesn’t respect them, and that things will get moved around changed re-organized oh, well, I thought this needed to go over here so I moved it and I won’t tell me so I spend Significant time looking for things that I know I put in a certain place and it really becomes frustrating. I think educating the family as one of the biggest things that we need to be able to do and that something that I think would be a great follow up to this video. How do you talk to your family and how do you get them to follow the things that you need so that you can be as independent as possible? Thanks for all you do Sam.
The seeing AI app has a hand writing recognition feature. It’s not perfect of course, if the hand writing is too messy then it won’t be able to read it. But it works better than any other hand writing identifier I’ve tried. The other drawback is that a Seeing AI it’s only available on Apple products. Although, the app Envision AAI is available for android and I believe it also can read and writing.
Sam I am going totally blind from RP quickly and are working with a pen friend and getting organised. How does your friend label the clothes as I have been told the slickers aren’t washable. Thanks from way over in New Zealand 🇳🇿
She keeps like clothing together in storage containers in her closet and labels those. Jeans, colored T-shirts, longsleeve shirts, etc. Then she can use a color identifier to find the certain colors if something needs to be put on a hanger in the closet, she will label the hanger itself. Blue dress, black dress, etc. When she does her laundry, she uses laundry bags to keep everything separated
Hi Sam. I just got a new Windows lap top with Windows . When using the magnifier the mouse jumps around on its own to different parts of the screen . I have tried all the setting in easeof access to make this stop and cannot figure it out. It only stops if I turn off magnifier but thenI cannot use the computer. Any suggestions? Thank you so much.
I would recommend a Seeing AI on an iPhone or envision a aion android. Cayenne FB reader works on both iPhone and android. The or KM would do that for you as well
Hi Sam I have RP. Through the years my vagine changes. Can you give me some suggestions on how to talk to the people in my house I don't want to come off beibg rude but some things I just need them there to realize I put things where I do to help me then they change it when I out of the room so when I come back for it s gone or one good sample is I always say b8y white garbage bags and when the person mice black they get upset when the bag shrinks down into the can I don't know that do you understand this is very discouraging. I think they forget I can't see somethings Can you help with Any suggestions. I don't want to be a birding. Thank you for taking the time to listen.
The ad before this video was an ad of how to improve your vision with laser eye treatment. Very ironic as for this channel. As a fellow VI this did tickle me a bit.
I have a video about sewing. I demonstrate these sewing needles with spiral open eyes. So it’s much easier to thread the needle. You should definitely search for it on my channel!

Thank you for sharing this!! I'm working on this myself.
This was very helpful and I will be sharing it with my Facebook support group. Thank you!
I LOVE your videos... they give me hope! And honestly gage down my anxiety about this...
Thank you for that!
THANKS SAM!!!! LOVE THIS VIDEO!!! IT SURE MAKES ME THINK ABOUT THINGS A LITTLE MORE AND IS SOMETHING TO ADD TO MY TOOLBOX..

That’s a great system!
Sam,
Your videos are always very informative.

Love your spirit my friend

Please recommend a color identifier
Colorino color identifier
Hi Sam. How do you get on with reading hand writing. I can't find anything or any system to achieve this sort of activity. Do you have any ideas?

Please give us updates on your friend once he goes back to the store!!!
Oh, yes please!
pduffy83usa agreed. It’d be great to hear an update.

Great video Sam! BTW, I like your shirt! I had an Uncle Jack...just saying... :)
LOL I know! I thought I was wearing my red VIP T-shirt, LOL! Rachel has already given me a hard time about it!
Are you going to review / show the new Iris vision updates?
Yes, they’re supposed to be sending me one very soon.
@@theblindlife I'm getting one to keep this friday😀
And systems must be refined over time.
I noticed one word that you didn't say but google said was "scheme"? I like that word. 🤣
can you dugest a voice reader which can scan from images and read out loud for me... ???
I would recommend a Seeing AI on an iPhone or envision a aion android. Cayenne FB reader works on both iPhone and android. The or KM would do that for you as well

Please show devices to use with our system creating process.
Sam, you know the old drinking game ? Every time someone says the word "System" I take a swig ! Thanks.
LOL!
Wow you actually do this as a ful time jov?!
The hardest part is to thread a needle...almost impossible.
LiveYourBestLife . There are devices you can get that tread your needle for you. I got mine from Bilind Fountain, I live in New Zealand 🇳🇿
I have a video about sewing. I demonstrate these sewing needles with spiral open eyes. So it’s much easier to thread the needle. You should definitely search for it on my channel!
