Honestly, I think the idea of Necro standing out is good. He is a founding member of the band and is iconic in the BM world, so it makes sense that he stand out.

I know a lot of people don't like Attila because he's not Dead, but for me? This live version pretty much sold me on Attila being Dead's successor.
Dead had cold, macabre vocals from the grave itself, but there's something about Attila here..
Maybe it's the eerie, void-like quality to his vocals; like the whisper that cuts through the darkness.
His screams sound a lot more clear and less forced. On some of the older stuff from the 90s I really wasn’t a fan of the vocals. But I’m watching this now and he sounds amazing haha.

I always thought Atilla was the most unique and creative BM vocalist. He varied his vocal delivery and created a mood all his own.

I think we don't need to compare the two singers to eachother too much. Listening to old live recordings back when Dead was the singer - well, I can absolutely feel why people fancy his vocals so much.
But! I like Attila's vocals, too.
It's a completely different style of singing, sure, but both are great in their own way.

This is my favorite version of Freezing Moon. It sounds like the De Mysteriis version, but it's more clear, Attila's vocals feels way more like black metal, and the solo is very much improved

I had the rare privilege of seeing this band live. I had made a new friend when I was in school and they told me, "We're going to a concert." They didn't tell me who was playing. "Oh, it's a mystery! Just wait!" This was my introduction to this type of music. I was fortunate to find this friend.

Seeing these Guys standing on Stage after recording this Album 24 Years - playing it like there is nothing happened in the years between. Amazing atmosphere, Amazing skills on technics and an unbeliveable performance from Attila. This is not only Black Metal, this is pure fucking art. Cheers!

the passion in black metal is just something else. can u imagine some sundayschooler learning the violin with same enthusiasm as the musicians in black metal practice. it takes years and years of continuously destroying your muscles to be able to play a full black metal concert.
All ignore Attila because idolize Dead due to his image, when he was only a temporary icon for the effects of the band. Attila was always the transcendental vocalist and he deserves all respects
Yeah, Dead wasn't the best singer. Maybe better with Morbid, when he was more subtle instead of trying to sound brutal.
He did work with Sunn o))), that's respectable in my opinion.

Truly one of the greatest black metal songs. It is hard to believe how young these guys were when they composed it.
Well the vocalist is dead, guitarist is dead. Bassist is in prison. Necro butcher who was replaced by varg happens to be the only original member of the band. Vargs was in prison for 21 yrs.
Attila is the only thing keeping Mayhem alive. He's what made Ordo Ad Chao and Esoteric Warfare interesting and his live performances are unmatched
Especially the atmosphere he creates in his live performances!
We cant forget about Hellhammer though:D people often just forget his insane drumming it seems^^ Still havent lost a touch, for me its mainly his playing that im excited about when seeing Mayhem live.

Man traditional black metal sounds so epic compared to today’s generation. This band was my introduction to black metal and I’ve loved it ever since. Mayhem is extraordinary.

I’ll never forget seeing this live.. Everyone pulled out their phones to record the intro.. Around the 1:45 mark where the beat drops it was just mass violence, fights all around me, strobing lights, security absolutely overwhelmed, the music fading into the background because your survival instinct is kicking in.. What a memory 🤘🏽
This live performance is Dead's legacy. The guitar solo is insane, love the reverb on that one, the voice of Attila, insanity. The drums are agressive af and the overall ambience is dark, hell-like.
