    Oh, yeah - almost forgot - that little trick mounting the combination wrench in the other orientation and banging it on the bench to easily free that bowl nut was priceless! It’s that kind of manual skill that makes the difference between working harder and working smarter. Thanks! 🔧

      I smiled when I read this comment. I do those little tricks, and have been doing them for so long that I don't really even acknowledge them in the video. Like "Hey guys, here's an easy way to get these off". I'm glad my videos do help some people with their projects!

      Randomwrenching I always remember who I learned a specific technique from or who I inherited a tool from. Makes them that much more valuable and special for me. When those people have passed away it reminds me of them and how much I have to be grateful for. 😉👍

      @@Rein_Ciarfella That's a great way to think about it! 😎

    Mic sounds great. You should have been on the Titanic. Could have saved a lot of people. Waiting for the other parts

      That mic setup does seem to work ok for me. Oh, and parts 2 and 3 are already uploaded, they will just be made public on my usual upload times.

      I do like the STX series of riders from JD. There were 3 versions of them...STX30, 38 and 42. I've had several 38's, one 30, but haven't had my hands on a 42 version yet.

    I believe this is now my machine after the Refurbishment!
    Good little tractor now, she’s a torque monster, you have to watch how hard you drop the clutch brake, or you’ll rip up all the grass on your lawn.
    I knew nothing about these machines before I bought mine, but now seeing the Motorsports hood, I want one bad, as an owner between me and when this video was made, smashed the original motor sports hood. Still looks good with the standard stx38 hood.

      Hey Dan, I did sell this machine to a Dan, but I don't have Smith as the last name written down. And I've only ever had one black deck model through the shop, all the others were yellow decks.

      Also, the hoods on the yellow decks were not as easy to break as the black deck units. Different plastics used over the years

    At 42:02 that spring is a massive spring to try to manhandle. Back when I worked on these, we took a handle for a pull start mower and attached a nylon rope to it with a loop in the end of the rope. This homemade tool was a game changer for removing and installing that spring. I don’t know if a photo can be attached to the comments, but, if it can, I’ll take a photo of it and attach it.

      That's a great idea. Every time I have to do one of these I say I'm gonna make a tool for it...lol

    Oh Deere, lots of work on this one !!! I was impressed on just how quickly you diagnosed that compression leak. I learn something almost every time I watch. If you had to repair that clutch lock on the clutch by welding in the worn area, is there a potential of damaging the clutch from heat from welding ?? Never did any welding with anything but acetylene which I know would conduct a lot of heat. Does arch or other welding cause as much material heat conduction as acetylene ? And would it damage the clutch ?? Just curious. Cool video

    • @randomwrenching
      @randomwrenching  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Len. No chance of damaging the clutch, it has to be removed to do the welding on that worn pin. I've repaired a few like that. Sometimes I mig weld them, sometimes I tig weld them. Just depends on what welder I drag out that day...

    Audio’s 👍. Music for that first fast forward is the same song as Arch uses for his video intro’s and outro’s. I like it! So jealous of your lift table. Lifted a push mower up onto my outside workbench yesterday for the very first time. At 75 working on the floor not so much fun. Next purchase - an actual lifting table! 1/4 drive torque wrench due today. Getting tools as I need and can afford them. 🔧🧰

    • @randomwrenching
      @randomwrenching  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The lifts are a requirement for me. There's no way I could do all the things I do if I was crawling around on the ground. I'm so busy that I bought a second lift that lives outside! Tools are expensive, but do eventually pay for themselves. Thanks for watching!

    Possible idea, tires for zrtrn Wash rims and beads. I have not seen anyone showing doing this or tightening /removing needle valves. Thanks and take care

    I've actually got the stx38 with black deck and 12.5 hp..but didn't realize some of the decks were made without wheels...
