    Brilliant as always. Just what I needed to watch as I want to make one for my 1989 Xj600f 51j to protect her new rear monoshock, once I've decided between Hagon and YSS.

    If you want to make a sheet of fiberglass leyer it up on a piece of glass or a mirror and you will end up with one side surface like glass.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      OK, sounds logical.. and how do you prevent it sticking to the glass?..

      I've used a cheap mould release wax before but I'm sure it just a cheap wax would work.th-cam.com/video/3uhR4jdFiS4/w-d-xo.html that a link to some one making a carbon fibre sheet. I never botherd with the vacuum bagging tho.

    Nicely done on the hugger, you mentioned the number plate briefly, please don't mount it on one of those brackets that bolt to the swingarm and holds the plate to one side or over the back tire at a low level similar to the bit of kit fitted to some adventure bikes , it needs to mount under the seat unit , just my opinion. Carry on with the great work can't wait to see the finished bike, ride safe

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gary... what you described is what many of the German streetfighters have been using for years..also standard on Diavels i think..? i think the adventure bike manufacturers copied it like all custom applications...but its still open to debate, not sure yet, i kinda like the look as long as its done a but 'stealth' and doesn't look like it was robbed form a GS1250..lol

  • @NonStoppie
    @NonStoppie 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It looked like your sidestand pivot has some sideways play on it. A lot of older bikes have that, is there an easy fix for that and can you safely use the stand?

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes there was a bit of play.. you can put the clevis end of the stand itself in the vice like i did and close up the gap a little, its usually that being opened up by people siting on the bike with feet up while its on the stand as much as actual metal wear...

    • @NonStoppie
      @NonStoppie 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks. My bike has it as well, I might try to close the clevis end up a bit.

    Just saw the reference to the songs on the board, nice touch. Good use of the scrap materials on hand and utilization of the time saving shop tools you bought. Only critique I might have is do you think the fiberglass is thick enough for the hugger and undertray ?Is it strong enough not to crack with vibration ?

  • @Drummerdad61
    @Drummerdad61 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Loving it Del, you are getting pretty handy at the fibreglass process and you've given me an idea of a rear hugger of my own design for my FJR at a fraction of the price...nice one. What's your thoughts on where the number plate is going as the ones that stick out the side of the rear tyre like a chopper are awful (in my opinion). Looking forward to the next instalement so ride safe and love to you both.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi James, DEFINITALY NOT a chopper style side mount.. maybe a rear hugger type like the German streettfighter style, or i may just hang it under the light.. not really decided yet buddy..!

  • @jacobellis9820
    @jacobellis9820 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Man I'm liking the way this bike is coming along, you've got a ton of talent. I'd like you're input on something, I've got a CBR 600 f4 and the bars aren't angled quite right so the heel of my hand ends up taking the pressure instead of spread across the palm but the clipons have a stop tab cast into them to keep them from rotating on the leg. Do you believe I could trim that tab so I can correct the angle without causing too much issue?

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi buddy, this is something that many of the stunt guys do when they want their bars straight out at 90 degrees to the bike, you can do it, but be aware that that support you'r cutting, or trimming, is there to stop the bars moving if the pinch bar comes loose... if you can make the modification safely, it's a great way to do it... just be aware that whatever currently pinches the clip on in place as well as that tab, will then be all you have supporting it, but I did it on my RSV Mille and it gave me a much ore comfortable ride position... am not exactly sure how to do yours as haven't seen it, so will have to leave that to your ingenuity ! Good luck...

    • @jacobellis9820
      @jacobellis9820 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Moonfleet41 thanks for the reply, I've been looking over it more closely and they're cast in right at the meat of where the pinch bolt hole is. I think I can just thin them out a little and get enough angle to do the job without removing them completely. The right hand bar might be a little more complicated because the banjo bolt for the brake master cylinder is fairly close to touching already so I may have to see if I can slide it out a couple mm or get a different style. Again, your bike is making great progress and I'm really digging it, watching you fab parts is making me want to do some bodywork on mine lol.

  • @marinmarkov5058
    @marinmarkov5058 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    OK. I will ask. WHY THE HELL DON'T YOU HAVE 1M+ SUBS!!! It is full of channels that are not even close to the content and the way of delivering it to the viewers with a lot more Subs!!! Just keep on going and the subs will come as you deserve.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Marin, wow thank you so much for that amazing compliment... we've been at this almost 10yrs, and probably doubled our subs in the last 2yrs or so, we are forecast to hit 100k in the next couple of months, and it always grows faster once you get past that milestone.... subscriber growth is a snowball effect, as more people share your videos, and they get recommend in algorithms, so like you say quite righty, we just have to keep doing what we do..! Sadly the big numbers come with big channels like gaming and cookery channels because it's mainstream, but motorcycles have always been niche.. I started doing this the same time as Eric the Car Guy (cars being mainstream) and look at his subs now ! Thank you again, all the best, Del

  • @garya3056
    @garya3056 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Still laughing re grandad’s toenails! So a dumb question while I try to recover from that one... why doesn’t the fiberglass adhere to or melt the trash liner bag, Del? That has be stumped here. Hope you both have a great Sunday! 🏍👍🏍

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Gary, it does melt it very slightly, as you saw when I painted it with the reason to start laying on the fibre glass it went all soft and squishy, so I stretched out a bit with more tape, it kinda goes soft and elastic, but it doesn't melt... have a great week mate, D&Px

  • @moehamp5477

    Hi del I've got a hugger on my busa and it's ok but it's fake carbon could I use it as a mould to make one plus it's got a cracking in it thanks mate keep up the good work AND HURRY UP AND FINISH IT lol

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi buddy, yes you could use it as a mould, if you cover it in brown packing tape, stretched and rolled down so there are no creases, then the new fibre glass won't stick to your existing one... and also you'll want to bolt your existing one down firmly cos those flimsy ones are so flexible they'll move and twist about, which will make a cock eyed version on the new one... if you really wanna make an awesome job of it, you could go a bit further, spray the inside of your existing one with gel coat , then lay it up with real carbon matting, and make yourself a genuine carbon one to be proud of, but it is a little expensive, and tricky to get right.. good luck with it !

    Not far to go now del, I don't know why you sleep buying those little fibreglassing kits, may as well buy from a supplier and get 10x the amount for the same money, might be worth an investment seeing as though you've used a lot. But that s just be being a tight yorkshireman

    • @Moonfleet41

      Trouble is, i never know if ill use it all.. maybe if i planned a big job that i knew id need lots.. but its normally jobs dreamt up on the fly, id end up buying it all ,then do a different project next with no fiber glassing and it'd sit there for years..
