DIY Blue flame waste oil burner nozzle design experiment

- I was experimenting with a nozzle design to get a blue flame burn. I wanted to show the struggles that go along with these burners. I had a bit of trouble getting it to light, but that's how it goes sometimes. The more familiar you get with the burner,the easier they are to light. This just goes to show that even someone with years of experience can have trouble,so don't give up if you don't have success right away. If it was easy,everyone would be doing it!

I actually just built a burner similar to this one made in a similar fashion to your No weld method with the pipe, first test was yesterday and had blue flames but was hard to get it going, I like the side pipes you added to add a swirl effect I will add that today. Keep the videos coming man 🤘🤘

Give it a slight blow with the blower when you light it, just a quick puff or two. The oxygen gets burned up too fast otherwise, that's why even the blow torch struggles when you put the nozzle into the pot.

I am wondering about how much smell of oil do you get from using this burner Sir ??
There's a bit of smell at light up, then no smell after it's going.

I'm about to build something like this burner. But what is most effective, blue or yellow flame?
Blue is hotter and more clean burning I guess. Yellow has "more visible flame".
But the blue maybe burns really hot and then the heat is invisible.
I have my vote for the blue flame, what do you other people say?
It's gonna sit in my wood boiler.

I tried a blue flame in my outdoor boiler, and I couldn't get enough heat for the volume of water. It's 500 gallons,pumping at 30 gal/min. I have been using a yellow/white flame burner now for the last two years. It's much easier to maintain, I clean it out every 24/48 hours, runs 24/7 for about 7 months. I'm in Michigan, so you never know what the weather is going to do! Usually cold! 😆
@@karlsoffroad Is that with the same oil/hour or does the blue flame automatically draws less fuel and less kW?
Cut some pipes today, started a litte on the burner. But it went slow, probably have fever and some shit 😝
I will make the nozzle threaded so I can switch style easy.

@jfjjjjfj ,this design doesn't do well long term with a powerful blower. The two air tubes that go outward end up melting off. Just wanted to save you some frustration. To answer your question on fuel consumption, it's important to know that it will depend on how much heat you need. Less fuel=less heat,more fuel =more heat,I can't tell you how much heat you need to make. I use about a 1 gallon/hour.
@@karlsoffroad So shall I just go with drilled holes in the center piece? Or maybe slots with a cutting disc.
I think about 0,25-0,5 gallon/hour, depending on the exhaust temperature from the boiler.
@jfjjjjfj ,you'll have to experiment with different burners and see what works best for your situation. There are a lot of variables, but for me, I just started testing different burners until I had the results and reliability I wanted. Sorry, I don't have a definitive answer for you. This style would be a great place to start. Once you start tinkering with these burners, you'll put your own spin on the design for your needs.
Hi , I have just build one of this and I operated exhaust motor oil , the flame is yellow and mabe a foot high really great rocket stove and very powerfool flame using a particular nozzle design but no blue flame at all , do you have any advice ? if I change for cooking oil mabe ? thanks.
You will have to experiment with the air,either restrict the blower or try blocking some of your holes in the burn head. The blue flame is a bit tricky to master. Let me know what happens, and I will do my best to help.
Can you test to burn used vegetable oil in yours burners
I will. My buddy owns a restaurant,so I'll get some used oil from him. I think it will burn even better than motor oil. Great suggestion!
veg oil don't burn as good as motor oil and it soots up the chimney.@@karlsoffroad

I just didn't want to promote using gasoline. Some people might not realize how flammable it is! 😕 I'm sure you know what I'm referring to.
