my great grandad was goalkeeper for cavan, and played in this match. his name is martin val gannon. he was born in 1919. i was born in 2009, 90 years apart
Looks like a full house at the Polo Grounds. The NY Giants baseball team would leave after the 1957 season. It was the home of the NY Mets their first two years (1962 and 1963). Demolished in 1964. I drove by recently. FYI - The stadium and adjoining parking lot are now occupied by four giant apartment buildings (Polo Grounds Houses, low income housing) and a public school.
@cavan1947 Thats amazing man! I was so made up when I read your comment, its makes posting videos like this all the more worthwhile! Make sure Owen Roe watches my other Cavan videos from this era! lol
Michael O'Hehir, has said that this Cavan vs. Kerry in Polo Grounds NY was by far the most memorable all-Ireland football game he ever commentated. He was in his words acutely aware he was Irelands voice abroad on that unique day, and that people back home would be gathered in groups listening to him on barely audible radios, starting about 8 pm on a Sunday evening in September 1947.
loved the commentary on this game and I'm Columba Mc Dyers daughter Annie just wondering does anyone know what number was he. I'd love a copy of the game. My dad was my hero

@petemusic23 No problem mate.....fantastic that you can watch your great uncle playing in an All-Ireland final 62 years ago!
WOW!! Great "foot"-age! Thanks for posting this!
@TheStones24 The final score was Cavan 2-11 Kerry 2-07
Duke died at age 25 and the last to die of that Cavan team was Higgins who was around 90 at the time of his passing
What killed him?
